Life / Do Amish exist in Poland [23]

On a more humorous note! I once was visiting some amish freinds and the three teen age daughters were sitting on a fence . In dresses in the wind and no they were not wearing undies. Oh too bad for me to not be a teenager a that moment. Worth the laugh though with all due respect to them of course as a gentleman.

Life / Are there many Polish farmers? [12]

Plk123 You are correct I ran the numbers last year and for 1000 ac One could make 50,000 a year living. Keep in mind that row crops do not take a full year of time so another job is possible t o supplement These numbers realy on land that is owned and paid for. This would change depending on any mortgage payments

Harry! It depends on the order and the bishop of that sect . I know some shunned Amish who live pretty lousy lives with very little hope or friendship from ther people. I welcome them in my home.

The amish also drink heavily at that age They have someone of age leave a case a beer in a ditch somewhere and they drink it that night. at least a drunken buggy is not as bad as a drunken automobile.

Societies pressures have forced the amish to move to different locations I have seen them in every state in The US my neighbors do have a tractor now which is shared by all the community. It all depends on the bishop in the area. In some areas they are not allowed even closed buggies. Each area bishop has a different degree of strictness. And if one ever does get divorced, they are never allowed to marry again. It is somewhat of an exile. I know one family who left the religion and now they are not allowed to associate with any of their relatives. Their kids can't visit their cousins or anyone. I have noticed when a family does break away it does start a domino effect with the younger men especially who will all end up moving to the house of the family who broke away.

News / Will Poland become green? [122]

Thi is all very interesting . We recycle in Indiana . We just throw our garbage in

the Ohio
river and let someone else down stream worry about it. If it gets to New Orleans then they can build a levy out of it. See it is recycled!

First of all you thinks that the Indiana is flat . This I must disagree. I live in hill country near Kentucky and we have some hills over hear! Of course they are not the biggest as you mentioned. They are just... Hills... And you can blame Indiana outright for the missing snow in Poland . We are here generating power with coal fired plants all along the Ohio river. And they are going to build another this year. We are a chugging seagrams whiskey and watching the coal burn . Who needs fresh air when you got a Seagrams palnt in your back yard?

Life / Do Amish exist in Poland [23]

The Amish have been leaving Indiana due to the high land prices. SOme have even given up the religion and went on to be like us . Or I should say somewhat like us. Now they drive and believe me going from horse to horsepower is not as easy for some of them . Yikes! and dangerous too! Fortunately There usually is no more than one vehicle at a time on the roads in my area.

It would be nice if the US could go back to the smaller farms. It would bring back good family life and values

I lost my entire fruit crop here in the US last year and I have never seen it so windy. one out of 3 of my neighbors lost their water well last year . I was lucky. Though my natural gas well has improved. This winter has been mostly rain so far and my ornamental flowers now bloom in the spring two weeks earlier that they used to.

The good old days! Polish delicatessens still exist on the south side of Chicago. It is well worth the trip. I try to get up there once a year to Bobaks market MMMMM I can smell it still! As for the cakes Well... I think we need to let the French do the baking or the Germans. That is ok with me.
