Language / Plural forms 2-4 and =>5 [30]

The irregular ones are a bit tricky. For example, those that don't take ów and ek.

Logically, I'll start with sheep. Sześć owiec, 6 sheep. Dwie owcy, 2 sheep.

UK, Ireland / Here comes the Anti-Immigration marches.... [114]

Shelley, you are right. Sometimes it's sufficient for the government to appear to be doing something. They leave people with the thought that they are doing something and then they sneakily do a U-turn.

How would they feel if they were replaced by immigrants who spoke fluent English? We know that can't happen but hypotheticals don't hurt.

UK, Ireland / Rise in race crimes linked to attacks on Poles [50]

Of course there are too many crimes. The backlog of cases in the Scottish courts is staggering.

Well, I'll let others answer your questions as I'm not on the race tack. The only thing I might say is that it may have implications for foreigners here but I doubt it.

I haven't mentioned race here, Seanny. I mentioned the ineptitude of our penal system and also the potential severity of the wound. That's all.

Lordy lordy, sb is somebody. Are you from a Congolese village, Mr H? Oh, Mr is Mister btw ;)

Well, you are right. In Scotland, we had a major crackdown/clampdown on knives. They have been outlawed solidly for over 15 years now.

It could be one of those judges like the Derby case I read. The judge, to the absolute amazement of the audience, gave the guy a dramatically reduced sentence for rape. Why? Because the guy was from his "lovely" part of the country. LOL, it's a true story.

Language / Rok vs. Lat [30]

Ah yes, you are right. I even have it written correctly in my nasza-klasa.pl account but I just slipped up.

Thanks for the correction :)

Stabbing sb in the eye is potentially fatal. Some of the nerves in that area are so sensitive that blindness is not outwith the question. Sorry, just think about it. Could you stab sb in the eye? Maybe, just maybe, in a rage but under normal circumstances most definitely not.

Polonia / Polish travel to Morocco [7]

A group of lads from the company I teach at went there and really enjoyed it, especially the herbal options.

They said that some of the scenery was fantastic :)

Regrettably, we have such morons in Aberdeen. Not only a few. I've just heard the Floyd lyric, 'you'll get a chance to put the knife in', listening to Dogs. It really struck it home what he did. It's idiots like that that spark violence between our 2 peoples.

May that guy get put away for a long time. 140 convictions and he is still on the go??? How pathetic our sentencing system has become.

There's a higher probability of this happening now due to current events. It gives some people the perfect, yes you guessed it, PRETEXT.

Sad but true :(

UK, Ireland / TRUTH AND DELUSION ABOUT POLES IN UK [65]

It's nice to have other roots. I'm part Irish and I'm proud of that fact. It provides some variety, gives you new territory to explore.

News / The Heart of John Paul 2 will be in Wawel. [14]

He should have, I agree. I'm not sure that there is a suitable cemetery of sufficient stature for him in Wadowice but it would have been symbolic. He was born there after all. The man was so instrumental :)

History / Any apologies about Sikorski's 'murder'? [95]

Well, I knew that about him Pete. Sorry, he didn't get much coverage in my history classes and he should have. Ich verstehe ;)

Food / Where can I find authentic kebabs in Krakow [14]

True that, the Poles don't go in for spice. For them, a pasanda curry is spicy. This is just the way of things. The Chinese food in Japan was altered to suit the Japanese palate.

I'd imagine that Krakow has an abundance of kebab joints.

History / Any apologies about Sikorski's 'murder'? [95]

Harry was referring to this idea of sharing Ukraine and running amok there.

However, Lviv/Lvov was Polish. Prince, what factors brought about the restoration of Lviv to Ukrainian control?

UK, Ireland / Polish students are rising to the top of the class [30]

There are areas where Poland is better and areas where it lags behind. For example, the Polish medical system seems to produce excellent doctors who are not driven by the same concerns as British ones who, quite often judging by accounts, don't diagnose the problem as accurately as their Polish counterparts. Medical students here are very thorough and well trained. Again, this is a generalisation but it often rings true. IT is another strong point.

It's a question both of values (discerned according to the needs and conditions of the country) and also of harmonising or streamlining syllabi/curriculums to facilitate exchange across Europe.

Education, in today's modern world, should not strictly be a competition (tho some is healthy) but more about cooperation and consultation and sharing of knowledge. The success of schemes such as Socrates, Comenus and Erasmus point to that being desirable.

It is for us to find the balance between compatibility and a coordinated position.

That's nonsense, lesser. Every generation becomes brighter as time passes. I don't think many Poles would agree with you. Pawian is right here and he has experienced both.

Down to the EU level? You know, I don't buy into this idea that one country has such a higher level than another in Europe. I see Poland as having a high level of education but no higher than many parts of Scotland, Germany or Holland for example.
