USA, Canada / Taste of Polonia 2008 Chicago, Illinois [79]

"Taste of Polonium" would be a great name for a sushi restaurant at Picadilly Circus, London... you'd attrract plenty of Russians ;D

Crap jokes aside, it sounds like a good gig!

News / 44 killed, 650 injured in Poland in road accidents during the weekend [32]

i'm sure it does, however if you drive safely enough in bad weather then your more than likely not going to crash.

True, but if it's been dry for a long time and then you get a sudden downpour, don't the roads become oily... or something like that (I don't really know about motoring... still don't have a driving license).

Feedback / How do I catch the attention of a moderator [13]

This is a very busy site with only two moderators and an Admin.

Quite impressive when you think about it... and all the dodgy money laundering and visa scams that people try to get away with posting.

Life / Having some friends over. How to make a Polish-themed night? [22]

It's a nice thought, though to be honest you might want to steer clear of the Polish theme. I'd be a bit freaked out if Polish friends arranged a Scottish / British / London themed soiree for me. Better off to focus on great craic / conversation, plenty to drink and some food to soak up the alcohol.

Travel / Driving from Poznan to Croatia. Best way? [23]

Aren't there any low-cost airlines that fly there? I'm sure that the road trip would be fun, but if time (and probably money when you facrtor in petrol and an overnight stop) is an issue, you'd be better off flying.

Where in Croatia? I love Dubrovnik - really beautiful city.

Travel / Flights to Krakow from Leeds, Bradford, or Doncaster [17]

I don't think that the airport renamed it - the airlines did. Afterall, more British visitors will have heard of / and will want to fly to Krakow than Katowice.

Similar deal with "London" Luton and Ryan Air's "Frankfurt" destination which is about a two hour bus ride from Frankfurt :D

Travel / Flights to Krakow from Leeds, Bradford, or Doncaster [17]

Krakow and Katowice have two different airports.

Yes - Krakow Airport (John Paul II Int'l) is the closest, however Katowice is trying to get in on the act, with some of the low-cost airlines calling it Krakow-Katowice. It is the latter that Arctic Paul is flying into.

The BBC site doesn't say where exactly this is happening though - where is worst hit?

Travel / Flights to Krakow from Leeds, Bradford, or Doncaster [17]

"Krakow"-Katowice is a bit like saying "London" Stansted LOL!

Best way to get to Krakow is to get a bus - check out the website for Katowice airport for the details.

Re baggage, yes - this is pretty standard for the low cost airlines. If you can manage with just hand-luggage, then go for it. I flew to Szczein a few weeks ago, and tried really hard to cram everything into hand-luggage, but ended up shelling out extra for checked luggage as I'd have to faff around, decanting my toiletries into smaller bottles etc.

UK, Ireland / Going rate for Polish tuition in London? [11]

why dont you join a class? its cheaper.

I'd love to, and believe that a class is the most effective format for learning a language, but I am really all over the place at the moment... I can't really commit to a regular class.

Chasing invoices its only 25 quid

Give me a week... my "premium" banner will be up there..... you'll see :)

Unless of course you become the 2nd female member to make a donation to PF and become premium.

Good point - and a timely reminder. I'm chasing some invoices, but as soon as I get paid, I'll have a little blue banner on my avatar :)

lust / infatuation / desire for an EU passport .... it depends really, but how can you "love" somebody that you've never met.

UK, Ireland / Going rate for Polish tuition in London? [11]

I really want to master some basic Polish conversation - am being totally realistic about what I'll be able to manage, but I'm willing to give it a shot. Plus I've studied Russian and German, so have an understanding of concepts like dative and genitive cases etc.

One of my Polish friends has agreed to give me some lessons on a casual basis - that is perfect for me, as my schedule is going to be all over the place over the coming months, so I can't really commit to a regular class. I really want to pay him for his time though (and will include lunch / drinks etc out)- anyone know what the average going rate is?

Love / i will visit poland to see my love [77]

Hmmm.... while I don't knock the net as a way of getting to know people, I'm not convinced that you can "love" this girl unless you've actually met her.

Life / A bad hand a scrabble... insulting? [10]

Hi there, I'm writing an article about British people struggling with Polish names. Would Poles take offence if I described some words as "a bad hand at scrabble"?

Travel / Best way to get from Gdansk Airport to Kolobrzeg [19]

Awww... that's very sweet of you. I'm loving the "pay it forward" culture that we're creating here on PF :))

The reason that I ended up stranded last time was due to a bit of a mix up... I was there on a business trip, and my hosts arranged my airport transfer with Mastertrans. As Mastertrans had dropped me at my hotel, I wrongly assumed that that they'd pick me up from the same place at the given time, rather than the bus stop down at the train station. I had 4 hours to get to the airport, and really couldn't believe that the only way there was to have to shell out for a taxi.
