News / Lavrov Visit: Warsaw Bracing Itself for a Firm Talk [28]

"paying particular attention to regions where Russia has its privileged interests'."

As in pipeline's.

"Accepting Mr Lavrov's terms would be agreeing to Moscow's long-postulated 'new concert of powers for the 21st century'. To a world dominated by the largest countries, supported by their smaller allies."

Well look here a silent takeover.

History / Russia tells teachers to lie to students about "Katyn" [139]

Stalin's Willing Executioners

"Echoing Solzhenitsyn, Wajda extols remembrance: "The best remedy for political and social problems is to show them and to speak truly about them." In contrast, the Kremlin shut down its Katyn investigation in 2005 without prosecuting any perpetrators. KGB alumnus Vladimir Putin classified as secret 116 volumes of findings."

amconmag.com/article/2008/sep/08/00028/

"Another long-standing bone of contention between Poland and Russia is the case of Katyn Massacre."

The Germans revealed the 1940 mass murder of 22,000 Polish officers in Katyn, Russia and accused the NKVD, who, in turn, reflected the blame upon the Nazis. In 1990, the Russian government officially acknowledged NKVD's responsibility for the event, but refused to see it as a war crime.

"Today, in fact, the Moscow City Court will hold a trial in which the Russian Organization "Memorial" will attempt to reveal the truth about the massacre."

Acknowledge the Realities

I could not believe this and I hope EU studies the words. Lavrov is like a child that misbehaves, is punished, the parents neglect to follow through. Lavrov is so sure Russia can behave like they have in the past, and indeed feels "indeed prevailed". We all know that without consistant follow through the behavior gets worse.

"I trust that pragmatism, common sense, and a positive - devoid of illusions and self-deception - attitude will prevail in international relations, as it often did in the past. In fact, the EU's decisions are evidence that a commonsensical, realistic point of view has indeed prevailed."

This was placed under general discussions.

Missile Offense

The Kremlin has been dusting off old Bolshevik intimidation techniques since the U.S. signed a missile defense partnership with Poland last month. The Russian foreign ministry promised that its response "would go beyond diplomacy," and a Russian general mused that this meant its nuclear missiles would have to target Poland. Who would have thought such talk would find an accommodating ear in the U.S. Congress?

The Tauscher-Obama "ideologically-based" hostility to the Polish agreement helps to explain why a majority of Americans aren't sure they trust Democrats on matters of national security.

US historiography

Putin knows the truth and decides to teach a lie, Bush lied and we all know it. I asked for examples of USA history that you cannot read the truth, even if it makes us look bad.

He painted a picture of a nuclear threat that he knew did not exist, and used it to scare people into supporting an illegal war, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people.

In the USA this is a known fact and they even looked into taking him out of power. Now show me where in the USA we lie and deny history even if we screw up.

The US have bulsh!tted their youth for ages. It's impossible to learn anything new about what's happening in the World watching american newsblocks and reading their history books.

Show me where? Lets see do you think history will leave out what President Bush did wrong?

The more I read people like you, the less I loathe putin

And this is a good thing for Russia? Sooner or later you must conclude that in order to play on the play ground with all nations you must behave. Just maybe Putin is not doing the right thing for the Russian people?

"Putin has been both the instigator and beneficiary of this rising nationalist tide. The old Soviet iconography, albeit stripped of its communist undercurrents, began to return in the service of the new strident Russian state, from the restoration of the melody of the old Soviet anthem, to the manipulation of the nationalistic aspects of Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn's work. The most disturbing revisionist trend, however, has been the rehabilitation of Stalin and many of his most heinous deeds. For Poland, this is particularly worrying not only because it is illustrative of Russia's renewed hostility toward it, but also because Poland was more affected by his actions than other any non-Soviet nation."

Excellant article on education and what is taught in Russia. I don't want to "quote" it to death but feel it's a must read in full. "He later confirmed the rumor that it was the presidential administration, along with the ministry of education, that had "invited" him to assemble the manuscript, making the textbook nothing less than an expression of Vladimir Putin's view of Soviet history"

"Vladimir Putin's reading of the Soviet Union's record represents nothing less than a repeal of glasnost and its accomplishments in the cause of truth."

"It is true that there was no "Nazism" in the Soviet Union, and no Auschwitz. But six weeks in the Kolyma camps turned a healthy adult man into a walking skeleton, dying of dystrophia, wracked by the bloody diarrhea of pellagra, and oozing pus and blood from frostbitten fingers and toes."

"We are saying: why remember? Why remember the past? It is no longer here, is it? Why should we remember it? Why disturb the people? What do you mean: why remember? If I was gravely ill and I was cured, I will always remember [the deliverance] with joy. Only then will I not want to remember, when I am still ill, in the same way or even more seriously, and I wish to deceive myself. . . . Why remember that which has passed? Passed? What has passed? How could it have passed--that which we not only have not started to eradicate and heal but are even afraid to call by its name? How could a brutal illness be cured only by our saying that it is gone? And it is not going away and will not and cannot go away until we admit that we are ill. In order to cure an illness one must first admit that one has it."

Polish Resistance and Underground Movement from WW2

First hand accounts of what took place. Use the link to see the other parts it tells the real truth. As Polish military was coming out of the sewers to get away from the Germans they were met at the other end by their allies "Soviets" that would shoot them.

News / Claims for compensation deadline Dec. 2008 Kresy property. [15]

This deadline is for eastern pre war Poland, "Kresy"now Ukraine. Poland reports having many more claims than they expected. They are revieewing and as long as you reach the deadline (that may be extended) you will be all set. IMO this may be reimbursed by Russia in the future as requested by EU and this is still in the air. Contact me by email if you need the forms.

You are mistaken, sir.

Thank you Seanus it is madam

Wars always occur when not submitted countries become weak and then stronger interferes once and for all to establish its own order and ideology. Russia will not give itself in insult never and if all the fine countries wish to live in the world,

All I have to say is Russia is not tough, they go around the neighborhood picking fights on the little guys.

Russia is in fact insulting herself she needs no help here.

The main of these guys are US and GB, which always dreams "to put its dirty and bloody hands" into Russia recources. They never stopped doing this.

This is not Russia's but I am glad you pointed out your true feeling. When others can live in peace without Russia thinking they can just take others land for oil Russia can grow.

It was Georgia that attacked SO on August 7th

Don't worry if it wasn't and a Russian try's to tell,

"Russian journalist killed in attack" Russia has long been considered one of the most dangerous countries in the world for journalists. More than a dozen reporters have been slain in contract-style killings since 2000 including Anna Politkovskaya, an investigative journalist killed in 2006 after winning acclaim for reporting on atrocities in Chechnya.

History / Russia tells teachers to lie to students about "Katyn" [139]

abstract atrocity

Look at it whatever way you need to. The fact that Russia still lies to the Country and think so little of the message they teach a gift from God, "Children" they are teaching their children from a goverment level in order to feel good about yourself it's OK to lie. From the Russian's in here I see the adults go along with this teaching method. When will the Russian citizens demand a higher standards of the powers that lie to a nation let alone their own people?

Just compare 20000 of Poles with millions of Russians....

I was not aware Poles tied millions of unarmed Russians hands behind their backs and shot them in cold blood in the head?

I'm Alexander

Much better. Do you mind if I call you Alex. :)

I can admit that it is a sharp point for Poles, but of course not for Russians.

Are we in "Russian Forums" I thought I was in "POLISH FORUMS"?

History / Russia tells teachers to lie to students about "Katyn" [139]

I have to question how it affects Russian children if/when they read articles about the lies in their text books?

"Josef Stalin acted rationally in killing millions, claims Russian textbook"
Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin claims he acted "rationally" in executing and imprisoning millions of people in the Gulags, a Russian school book claims

Millions were shot, exiled to Siberia or died of starvation after their land and homes were taken to fulfil Stalin's vision of massive "factory farms" in the 1920s, while in the 1930s anyone who was a threat was executed or exiled to Gulag labour camps in Siberia.

Historians believe up to 20 million people died as a result of his actions, many times more than were killed under Hitler's Nazi regime in Germany.

The manual says: "He acted entirely rationally - as the guardian of a system, as a consistent support of reshaping the country into an industrialised state."

News / Abkhazia and South Ossetia are independent states now! Poland reaction? [236]

Putin wants Russia to control ALL the oil and gas. Which would be a de facto move to control Europe (again) this time through its fuel supply.

Anyone that cannot see this is not looking. As many are saying this has everything to do with USA's needs are not looking at what effect this will have on Europe.

The Financial Times Deutschland writes:

"Any doubt as to Russia's goals in Georgia has vanished into thin air. By recognizing the Georgian territories Abkhazia and South Ossetia as independent states, against international law, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has made Moscow's intention clear: The Russian government wants to change the map of Europe by violence."

"This war never had much to do with South Ossetia, much less with Georgia. Moscow wants to use this invasion -- which it has prepared for years -- to rebuild its imperium, to expand its control over Europe's energy reserves, and to punish anyone who believes that democracy should bloom along Russia's borders. For Europe this is reason enough to worry."

"Russians are our neighbors - we have to live with them"?

so you want us to accept every sh!t russia does just because they are our big neighbour?

I did not say this in fact it's bs.

I dare you to approach the first Spanish or black you see on the street and to ask him to show you Poland on the map.

USA is not just Spanish and Blacks and the ones born here I know are educated and caring people.

Btw you're a visual evidence for that

And you an as*.

Just pointing a fact that nation that knows or cares so little about Poland cannot be friendly or supportive.

You are speaking for a nation and why off track. If you choose to apologize for yourself be my guest, just do not do so for a nation that many feel USA is doing the right thing.

And yes, more than you see knows and cares alot for Poland and her people.

serving the destabilization tool for the empire in which an average men cant show Poland on the world map.

Where I live we can show you were Poland is on a map. I find your trying to insult the education of US rather odd. It was Russia that was in Georgia for "peace" and their behavior that threatens Europe.

Fact is only one country has recognised those separating republics.

Today Russia may appear powerful yet long term look at the damage done.

"The Abkhaz and Ossetian populations have not been threatened with anything remotely approaching "ethnic cleansing" or "genocide" by the Georgians. If anything, the danger is in the other direction, with ethnic Georgians fleeing both regions to escape the Russians and the Russian-armed secessionists."

"As for rewriting the international rules, that will not be done unilaterally, with Russia mistrusted and disliked."
