Food / Why do Poles just not "understand" healthy eating ?? [82]

You don't wanna hurt me? Sheesh, what methods were you thinking of? I shudder to imagine.

A-1, I've heard of this. Many Americans have mentioned it here. Is there only 1 type?

News / Poles are coming home [35]

Tell me about it. It really is black magic how some get by here. This has to be the 8th wonder of the world!

Work / Interview at a Callan School [204]

It's hard to keep teachers who hit their prime as they start to look for something else. They grow tired of it and take their knowledge elsewhere. In my third year, I could teach it blindfolded and there was no challenge.

Teaching is a broad church and the more you go down one path, the harder it is to turn your hand to other ways of getting your points across.

What what? It's a sauce, not a burger. I'd love to try American beef. Aberdeen Angus is said to be the best in Europe, it's from my home city and I love it. I've also tried Kobe beef which is said to be the best in Asia. Both are immense!

Argentinian beef also ain't bad.

The rate is on the low side but these are crisis times. I got 35PLN in hand for 50 mins but I started out on 30PLN.

I moved on from then though but it was a fun experience at times.

The lower jaw, so that's what you call it ;) ;)

Hmm...you are stretching the boundaries of the lemon but each to their own. It's cheap and cheerful.

Try Worcestershire Sauce on beef.

Good point. Your school should have multiple spare copies of all books of the method. A swift something else may be in order too. Where's that bar? ;)

25PLN for how many minutes? You need a contract, that's a foundation document. Otherwise, he'll rip you off left, right and centre. At least you'll have some comeback then.

He should've dealt with this before bums on seats. Hold your ground, whatever you do. I know sb who is taking action at the moment but I can say no more than that.

Nice recipe, PGTX.

Thanks Cardno. Now that I think about it, it stands to reason. Putting exp to good use is a large part of life. Better than concentrated lemon juice which, at best, is only good for dripping onto some kinds of fish.

They have been thoroughly unprofessional. A confident teacher will produce confident displays funnily enough. They needed to really drill the method harder with you. They are more and more looking for instant cash these days and it really angers me. I sometimes wonder how Poland could have been communist at all with some of the materialism I see.

Trust me, you simply cannot act that natural until you have some exp under your belt. It took me a while. Then you can waltz around the class with the whole question in your head, no need for the book other than a quick glance as to what the next question is.

Stick with it and remember that you are new. It is a learning exp for you as much as it is for them.

News / Some Poles burning American flag [299]

Well, I read some European press and I didn't find it here either.

I don't know where it was pulled from and I don't think it's worthy of much comment. Most Poles just get on with their lives in their little groups. They don't hate America that much. Some hardliners do but they are the exception to the rule.

That is absolutely ridiculous. Where are you based, again? I got a manual and quite a lot of classroom practice before stepping into the classroom for real. Observations formed a minor part of my training.

We had loads of grammar tests and updates etc etc.

OJT should be more extensive than that.

The problem with lemon juice from a fresh lemon is that pips (pestki) sneak out unnoticed and you chomp on one later :(

Garlic, yeah, I should really use that more as a flavour provider. What spices do you throw in there?

News / Some Poles burning American flag [299]

Spot on, Joe. The Neocons looked for fractious opportunities, the classic divide and conquer approach, ripe for the pickings.

Obama is treading a more cautious line. Seeking a dialogue with Russia is a better way. Putin has been asking for more of this and will reciprocate in kind. I hope he hushes Biden. That man is trouble!

It's important to move around a lot. Salads are available here but Poland has such great salad ingredients that a home salad is quite the taste experience. Knorr make great sauces to add to them and not so high calorie. Kamis too.

Life / Controversy about funshops with recreational drugs in Poland [50]

They try out all sorts of compounds on unsuspecting people, thinking they are getting pure MDMA. I'd never buy any of that nonsense.

I meant that they should try the compound first. Many pushers are users, yes. Still, they know their drugs better than many users.

Life / Controversy about funshops with recreational drugs in Poland [50]

Nothing silly about what I wrote. Let people become lazier and accept the consequences. Relative to the salaries some people command, they are lazy.

Sometimes there are other ways of testing out a drug. Also, I wasn't talking about mainstream drugs, plk, more about new drugs coming onto the market of which there are many. They need to be explored by independent sources.

Drugs are fundamentally different from skiing holidays, OsioĊ‚. That was a lame comparison. Drugs have natural chemical and psychological effects, often harmful side effects. Need I remind you of many drugs that weren't thoroughly tested and caused abnormalities on a large scale? Thalidomide ring any bells? I could quote you many more.

Food / Where to buy Cheddar in Warsaw? [57]

No no, I was saying that other companies make a killer pork pie too. Up north, we have some good uns.

I'm just looking back at the thread title. If Cheddar can be found in little Gliwice, it can surely be found in huge Warsaw.

There are beans here. The Poles seem to have overlooked lentil soup as a standard offering. I know it exists (zupa soczewice or sth like that) but other soups rank higher in the order of preference.

Still, they eat kasza here (gruels/grain) which is healthy enough. It could be dubbed as Polish cous-cous.

They have more stalls on the go than back home. Given the right season, they are very cheap. Britain has more options for porkers. We are more of a crisps culture too, I rarely see Poles eating them. We stuff our faces with them whilst watching the box.

Many Polish people have good builds, not indicative of succumbing to the trappings of fast food. Olive oil is readily available here. Cabbage is quite healthy actually, Juche.

Some cheap foods can be quite nutritious.

Yes, it is easy but that doesn't mean that people do it. Apples have flies and pesticides anyway.

Who was mocking? I was just saying that the SK diet isn't that healthy. I've never been to the north so I don't know but Seoul is pretty close to the border.

Do you wipe the cowshit off of the mushroom before you eat it and start hallucinating? LOL

I'll have to start calling you Hue with the way that you speak. Not 5 of 1, LOL

Enlighten us, Juche! Personally, I didn't find South Korean food to be that healthy. Is the food up north really so different?

The Poles, due to family break-ups, seem to be eating less at home and more fast food. There are too many fast food joints here and not enough quality international restaurants.
