Law / Visitor In Love with a Polish girl, UK marriage/Polish residence question [17]

Yes, as far as I know, you can marry her in the United Kingdom and will allow you to stay in Europe. I imagine that this is the main reason why you want to get married, otherwise you would not be posting such a question if you did not really know the answer to this yourself. I have always said that England's entry to the E.U. will be the last nail in Britain's coffin and I am right. We have become a European dumping ground. When an Englishman goes to Poland and wants to buy land or anything the fist question from the Polish solicitor is "and have you Polish citizenship or a Polish passport?" The Polish certainly are not stupid. Maybe your polish wife to be has a dream of a nice country estate near Cape town? After all, nice orange trees is promotion on concrete blocks in Sopot!

UK, Ireland / Polish summer in the UK? [5]

As far as the Poles are concerned, they mainly go strawberry picking and beer drinking. The cycle and swim like anybody else but these are their main summer time occupations.

Life / Animosity between Poland vrs. Polonia? [98]

Polish people in Poland sometimes are distrustful, envious and even hostile towards Polish living abroad.

Yes, definitly and this is especially true of the younger generation. I find young Polish people in England very nasty indeed whereas the older generation-that is, older people visiting England for the first time to be a much nicer race of people altogether. I think it is jealosy, the young Poles see what it is like overseas and see what second and third generation Poles have taken for granted and they realize that now, they have a lot of catching up to do.

Some people hate Poles and yet are married to one.

Nobody in their right mind could ever be that stupid, could they? That would not be a marriage but I life prison sentence.

Language / x=a kiss sign. What's a kiss sign for the Polish? [48]

xxxxx

The same

They never used to. In the early 1980's, in Moscow, I used to write letters to my Polish girl friend and she asked what it was? After she knew, she too used it but as a kiss, to the Poles, it was unknown.

It never seems to amaze me how the Poles so hated the English speaking World yet all these Poles living in the United states of America and Canada. In Moscow, I heard nothing but criticism about Churchill. You Poles want to be experts and know it all now. from Poland BUT living in the new capitalist West. Same old story-do as I say not as i do. End of story.

Travel / Ticket controllers in public transportation vehicles in Poland [24]

I could never really understand why under Communism, the tickets being so very cheap as they were, why they did not just have a free transport service altogether around town. In towns you had to buy tickets, if you could get them from the little kiosks on the street for two old zlotys a time. A total waste of time.

Japan never attacked Purl Harbour.

Japan did indeed attack Purl Harbour with aircraft that left aircraft carriers.

History / Poland Betrayed in WW2 [243]

Do people feel that Poland was betrayed in WW2 by its Allies? Did they have an obligation to Poland?

personally, I do not think that Poland was betrayed. Britian started a war with Germany over Poland and it was a European war contained within Europe. By the time Japan attacked the Americans in Purl Harbour and Hitler attacked Russia it became a World war. Churchill had very little real influence in my opinion towards the wend of the war as the two major players were America and Russia.

Travel / Ticket controllers in public transportation vehicles in Poland [24]

I've heard there are "ticket controllers" in Polish public communication vehicles, like public buses, trams, or trains. They can fine people if they don't have tickets and the controllers have no badges and look like passengers. They can call the police

It is very rare but they used to exist. It is so easy just to jump on and off buses without a ticket. I was on a tram once late at night and they asked to see my ticket in Kraków and they checked the ticket and the marks made in it by the stamping machine.

ng that since almost a year. Imagine how f. up he must be.

It should be 'for almost a year' or 'since last year'. It is not grammatically correct to say 'since almost a year'.

Everywhere changes over a period of time and you may give some people the wrong impression of area's in Poland (as it is now).

Believe me, Poland can never change for the better. I know Poland very well indeed-same old steets, same two faced people and the same thieves and liars. Sorry, but I have seen it all in my time.

Life / So whats your opinion on the Polish health care system? [17]

as a nurse myself, ive had mixed reviews on it, polish health care seems to be on a par with the uk....not that thats hard!! but one thing im really surprised at is the Health care provided to the elderly. i visited one "n

Health care is dreadful in Poland and I have a lot of personal experience in this matter. I even visited a hospital once to visit my mother-in-law and it was just like an English hospital from the fifteenth century! If you are in hospital and you want health care you have to bribe the doctor and nurses or you will just lie there to die. Mind you, English hospitals are not much better.

Travel / Good unpopular nightlife/cultural destinations in Poland [5]

Szczecin's, W

For student night life, then Szczecin is a very good bet. I had a very good time there but this is years ago and has probably changed a bit since I was last there. Many universities are located there and you should be able to mix in the fun.

ry yo visit Olsztyn castle about 30 mins drive away.

Yes, it is pretty there on a small hill. When we were there it was winter time and it was cold but in the summer it would be much nicer. When I used to visit Poland, we used to visit the summer fair held in the Polish town of Mstów, which is held d in June of each year, if I am not mistaken. I never go to Poland now so am not really up to date. Częstochowa itself is a dump with a steel works.

UK, Ireland / "Half of Poles in UK plan to return home" Telegraph article [8]

0zł per hour they might decide to ofski again!

The trouble is that various labour resources come and go. Soon, we will have the Romanians who will work for even less than the Poles. So it goes on and on. We have far too many immigrants now in England and by that, I am not just talking about the Poles. I think that the home market is saturated and even some liberal thinking people are getting tired of it. It has all gone far too far for too long.

News / Polish citizens given away to foreign law courts - is this normal? [29]

I think, that citizens of EU countries should be taken to law courts in their homelands

How would this work? This Poles is being tried in the United Kingdom for an offense committed here. He can not be tried in Poland for a British offense. Even more to the point, a Pole may be arrested for an offense in England which is quite legal in Poland. How then could a Polish court hold a trial?

Work / For all English teachers in Poland (who work for only $1000 a month) [102]

I sometimes wonder though, if teaching the Poles is a good idea. I was in a restaurant today and we had lunch. It was dreadful and everything we ordered was finished and not available. A good looking Polish girl took my card for payment and she came from Bałystok. A cocky big headed girl, not my type at all. They are becoming spoiled and arrogant. Britain giving them leave to remain in England and work without visas was the worst thing we ever did.

News / When the currency of Poland to change into Euro? [14]

The people of Poland are not used to a free and open economy and that is also why Polish people in the service industry are so rude. The Poles have not taken grip of themselves and will have a dreadful shock if and when they allow the euro to come in. Over night, all prices will double and the poor of Poland will 'go to the wall'. Everywhere that has adopted the euro has regretted it.

Life / Cigarette Smoking in Poland [146]

Smoking has always been a dreadful problem in Poland and is caused by the stress of life and their general working class position. They smoke rubbish too because they can not afford the import quality tabbaco either. Everybody smokes like chimneys in Poland and this is one cause of huge numbers of premature deaths from coronary heart disease in the country. Towards the end of the Communist era, they tried to help Poland in promoting health issues but again, Poland just fell by the way side. Poland would do well to listen to Russia's warnings about over indulging in both vodka consumption and smoking.
