Life / Haunted Homes in Poland [173]

He doesn't :- D .. Lots and lots of people have experienced what they thought were spirits around the world. A lot of their experiences are simliar. Can they all be making them up? Are they all delusional?

USA, Canada / WHAT'S THE CANADIAN HEALTH SERVICE REALLY LIKE? [15]

Obama is now pushing for a national health plan amid strong opposition .

He should focus on Chinese medicine.. that way he might remember who we owe $800 billion to.

Love / Why are more Polish girls marrying Americans? [77]

That could make people live with a strong believe that applying no efforts you would end up with standard "happy end" anyway.

There were little girls in Europe in the 1700's who read fairy tales and actually believed they could become princesses. They are to blame for being quixotic not the authors of a fairy tales.

Also, you seem to assert that Hollywood only celebrates the rich. A cursory glance will tell you that's not true really. There's plenty of movies about people relatively poor. "The Blue Brothers" for instance is a good example. Two broke fools ultimately trying to do good. In the end they wind up in jail.

No, because they promote their lifestyle worlwide. Language is a consequence.

Honestly, I find this whole "empire" and "brain washing" notion fairly amusing especially when espoused by someone educated like yourself. Who forces you to watch and believe in these movies? This is similar to a kid addicted to sweets blaming the lolli pop company for his toothache. I will say to you that if you think Hollywood movies and American culture in general is harmful to your children then your countries should ban it from society. I don't say that at all to be sarcastic or smug either. I do find it strange the American is contantly told by the European / Russian how stupid they are but the American doesn't really subscribe to Hollywood's "pie in the sky" sentiment. Unless you're pretty mentally challenged you know you're going to have to work for what you want here. And even then it hinges upon a lot of luck.

I've never lived in Russia or Poland, you have lived in the US and Russia I think you said. Do you think life is easier in the States? It may say something more about the Slavic mindset and their own reality that they are intent on believing in "fairy tales" from a far away continent.

Slowly but surely other countries lose their identity under the powerful dictatorship ("democratic" dictatorship if you want) of the US.

Dictatorship because they speak English? C'mon the US doesn't impose loss of culture on them. English is just the Lingua Franca at the moment. Just like French was.. people didn't become French in the 1800s, adopt everything French, etc.

Americans have the largest cinematography and show business industry. The vast majority of films you watch produced in the US, they logically paint life and people in the US better than they are, they implant to one's mind the seed of "American dream" and lifestyle in general.

Hollywood is a small element to American life.. Even a lot of Californians don't pay a whole lot of attention to it. It's mostly an industry but also a quirky mindset too. Most people don't subscribe to it. To Hollywood's defense, sure it's a lot of overstated, bogus crap but it also creates a lot of simple happiness, a cheap exploration for a lot of people, sparks dreams and imagination.

You have to ask yourself, why people are so eager to believe in these films. Maybe that's the bigger question.

I just don't want people to lose their identity and origins, don't want people to lose something I like them for, as much as selfish that sounds...

Yep.. Everyone should be selfish in this regard.

Love / Poland reverse of fortune in dating [124]

For wife I would choose polish girl because any long term attempt to handle the constant ukrainian girls unpredictable moody changes and their manipulations to gain the upper hand will lead to chronic depression where only alcohol can help.(no wonder why slavic men are such heavy drinkers).

Damn.. yes you may have well found a strong correlation. However, a lot of Ukes / Russians believe alcohol is medicinal too. (I've heard anyway.) Only Salvador Dali could tame a slavic and he was crazy as hell himself.

he finds heaven in Poland maybe because the girls are not aware of the tricks and common manners guys use in the west.

This would explain influx of the British.

Poland you become 100Xtimes more popular, successful, powerful, you really change status.
Of course it is still nothing to what happens when you cross the ukrainian border

Which one makes the better wife on average? Better long term disposition? Won't b/tch as much?

I mean there is no competition because the other guys are invisible.

Well, in your opinion, what is the average guy who scores a good looking Pole like? In dress , manner? You mean to say some nerdy, bookish type is getting a trophy girl over there with regularity?

Maybe the girl perceives that if a guy is a loser, this means that he is so sensitive that could not handle the burdens and touchness of society so he deserves love.

Love by charitiy case? I've seen it but it's rare and never results in marriage. However a domineering woman may actually like it.

I mean that in Poland the competition is ridiculous.

What? Ridiculously bad? How so?

Or are you just an armchair critic?

Well, at least I'm not an armchair defeatist. You know, as I actually live here, I know quite a few blue collar people with nice homes, families that don't live in absolute squalor. Electricians, carpenters, contractors, construction people, house framers, remodelers.. they usually get a decent wage.

So now that you've made your criticism, why don't you add something that you think is substantial?

Based on the majority of your dippy posts, I can easily say the same for you.

Do us a favor Johnny, stay in Europe.

USA, Canada / Why Americans think that nobody likes them? [185]

the US is like a high-school dropout who has won a big lottery.

LOL.. I love this one. Almost a chorus with the sad little Euro. It's all been a happy cosmic accident for the American. Nothing more.

Then the dropout has apparently won the "big lottery" on several occasions. Funny how your amazing European brain can't see how statistically unlikely that is.

Perhaps the real reason for your "obsession" is that you're just losers who cannot measure up to the US. Hence having to form the little union with neighbors you haven't trusted for centuries... and at core.. still don't.

USA, Canada / Why Americans think that nobody likes them? [185]

The biggest problem about Americans is that they think using stereotypes, just like children do (this is true for most nations but Americans are very easy to manipulate here).

.. and the biggest problem with Europeans is obsessing about the US. A country that they claim every hour on the hour is beyond belief stupid but one that they had to form a union amongst themselves to even compete with. You love to hate the US but you import our culture into you lives everyday.

Quite the paradox how you love to be entertained by "inferiors".

Yeah but it was stupid enough to have communism. Which do you think was the bigger error?

not ridiculous at all.. how many terrorist attacks in europe have gone completely unnoticed by america over the decades?

Which ones are you talking about? There haven't been that many. The Basque Separtists? Algerian terrorists in France? IRA stuff? What business was it of ours? We were never consulted on these matters. I don't remember 3000 people dying or we would have definitely have been there. UK and Spain have both been attacked by Al Queda. The missions in Afghanistan at the very least disrupt Al Queda movement and communication.

Study / How to get a degree in Polish Language and/or Culture? [4]

Online schooling would be ideal!

Yes, check that thread Grzeg put out. Most Poles settled around the Great Lakes so those are the schools that offer the most classes. Indiana U. does a lot of online classes. Good luck.

I think the 'dislike' is more pronounced in Europe. Out of jealousy maybe?

There's a lot of reasons. It's complicated. That's why it's good to argue it out on the forum.

Scrappy I'm a lot smarter than you

lol, ok... I swear you and LAGirl could switch names and nobody would be the wiser. Hey you like eating the crap the Europeans sling at us on here.. that's your thing ,not mine. What is "pathetic" is backing down when somebody is slamming your people all the time.

whenever someone criticize US policy, plenty of Americans were defending it.

You were pi.ssed off about the US's immigration policy towards Poland. We asked you (several times) why you thought the Czech Rep. and Slovakia didn't have the same restrictions. You got all mad and started insulting our schools , intelligence, etc. Saying we were gov pawns, all this bu.llshit. You made it personal. So yeah a few people ganged up on you. <shrugs> What the hell did you thinks was going to happen?

Scrappy is the only Americano here with an inferiority complex.

Well, coming from somebody who could double as LAGirl I doubt you would know the difference. I suggest you go back to listening to your Hanna Montana albums.

I'm currently living on the west coast of the USA and I'm really loving it here.

Eh? You're a limey? They always live here and criticize us with abandon. At the end of the day they'll want to run you out on a rail. Even on the West Coast.

I mean you guys talk a lot about how independent you are how individualistic but when someone dare to criticize federal Government - most of you (anyway on PF)

That dcchris kid is a yankee, he didn't agree with us, he agreed with you. On the health care thread we've been disagreeing with each other left and right.

Its frustrating to them that we simply wont do, or think the way they want us to.

Agree.. A shot at their ego we never intended to make.

They have what is best described as a "hivemind" sometimes

Which is why Nazism and communism were born there. A dangerous mentality.

I still love them though....

A lot to admire and respect about them. No doubt. I'm not sure there won't be another Renaissance for them either.

double-faced and can come across as arrogant

This I will grudgingly have to agree with. That's a perception probably based on truth. There are many simple bastards here in the US and they think the sun shines out their a.ss. Particularly rich kids traveling to Europe, Argentina, Austrailia etc who do not represent the majority.

I would think in coming decades the arrogance will wear away because it's going to be a lot harder for the US to maintain the hegemony it once had. It will still be a key player just not THE player.

You scream when we act. You scream when we dont.

Unfortunately, this is very true too. You're better off avoiding the European because they're always mad at you and will either be hostile to you or want to give you a lecture about how evil you are. I wouldn't go there on vacation either. Sorry but I've had enough dealings with them to know their character most of the time. And like I said earlier, it's funny because they probably do have easier lives than us.
