Food / Where can I find authentic kebabs in Krakow [14]

When I lived in Germany, the kebabs sold in many small restaurants were wonderful - made by actual Turks, I am told. However, I find the kebabs in Krakow to be nothing like those I enjoyed in Berlin - any idea where I can find the good stuff here? Thanks!

In the dog kennels. They must be somewhere in Krakow.....

Love / Discussion about Polish Men's Tempers [103]

It has been getting better over time where he has learned not to vent his anger and frustration out at me but in the beginning it was terrible!

No wonder the situation has gotten better..... With such arguments at hand......:

Feedback / Why was my last post deleted and censored? [21]

I think partly.

I am not sure about it. In the rule it says recommended. It doesn`t mean obligatory.

I will be gone for a few days. But I hope to start some new and productive threads when I get back. Good night all, and to all a good night.

Good night and don`t let little misfortunes put you off.

Love / My Polish boyfriend and his drinking habit. [60]

I didn`t drink at all yesterday. I am ill, the flu-like desease has come over me, I have shivers and all my muscles hurt. I am not in the mood for drinking.

pawian, those posts are most unlike you and I hope they're tongue in cheek or something.

Sometimes sarcasm works more efficiently than plain honest advice. Do you think she will follow your advice: dump him, dump him?? Of course not.
Don`t you understand there is a category of women ready to suffer all insults in order to be with this one man??? They prefer being beaten by them than being alone. It is sad but true.

How much are you all going to bear/put up with just to be with this chosen one?

If a lot, it means true love. Love isn`t only for good times and happy moments.

Pawian, you don't appear to have won favour with your comments. Men and women alike will question you for those views.

Hard luck!

Love / My Polish boyfriend and his drinking habit. [60]

Sorry, but love songs are bullshit. I know Foreigner but never went into their lyrics too deeply.

True love is when you suffer beatings, abuses, offences etc for years and constantly try to correct your partner and never give up!!! When you finally succeed, e.g., the husband stops drinking on his death day, then you may say the true love has conquered all!!!!

It is so simple and I really don`t know why you can`t find it out for yourself.... :):):)

Love / I would love to meet a Polish woman..they are so attractive! [33]

When I wander down the street, and if I hear a eastern european accent; I turn my head. I am normally confronted with a beautiful woman...why is this? When I hear an english accent, I turn to see someone not so good looking. I would love to meet a polish girl!!

Don`t limit yourself to Polish girls only!

Polish men are a bit less good-looking, but they have very interesting personalities!

Love / My Polish boyfriend and his drinking habit. [60]

i know it's harsh but what's there to love??

You don`t know what true love means!!! It is loving your partner despite all their misfortunes!

if you get a place together where do you think he will be sick everynight?

She will get a dog. Dogs like such stuff. In the morning it will be all clean. Simple.

Love / My Polish boyfriend and his drinking habit. [60]

hi everybody I'm new to this forum, hope you can help me. This is going to sound really racist and trust me I am not a racist but here goes. I have been seeing a Polish man for the past 2 months the relationship is quite new but we knew each other as workmates for a while.

You seem to be a typical case of a woman who likes being brutalised by men. Some males are aware of it and try to find out which woman goes for that.

If you love him and want to keep him, close your eyes and in advance forgive him all beatings, abuses, adultery and mistreatment of your person in the future.

That`s what love is !!!!! It is so beautiful!! I think I am gonna cry.....

Life / Car Window Tinting - is it legal in Poland? [20]

I think the legal limit is two windows per car. More is forbidden, but you can choose windows to tint according to your wish.

This guy drives illegal.

News / Tanks stolen from military training ground in Poland [28]

Still I get a chuckle out of this story.

No, it is a serious matter. Those thieves should be acquitted. They are fervid environmentalists, they just couldn`t bear the sight of metal lumps littering their romantic forest.

News / Tanks stolen from military training ground in Poland [28]

They are training in T-34???

Of course not. Read Lotnik`s explanation. It is correct.

Not really!! Those tanks wore used as targets on the training field for Polish Military training!! And these tanks are old; they don't work any more they are from 1940, 50s and 60's. The plan was to scrap them/ recycle and make a quick buck! The people accountable for that got stopped and arrested and there is an inside military investigation going on!! It's so bad/poor that people will do any thing to make money to survive!! But it’s funny how the military protect their training field, god forbid it was a real life fire exercise gaining on that some on could have gotten hurt/killed!!

Apart from being targets, the tanks also made a nice decoration of the field. You know, like in real warfare, wrecks of burnt out tanks hinder the path/way and tank drivers must watch out for them, especially at night.

News / Tanks stolen from military training ground in Poland [28]

Tank thieves arrested in south east Poland
thenews.pl
12.02.2009
Two men aged 25 and 35, suspected of having stolen tanks from a
military training ground are being detained by police in £ukow, Lublin province.
One of the tanks was found by the police officers near Radzyñ Podlaski, while it was being carried by a car transporter. The other three were being kept in private property in Lublin, next to a metal scrap yard. The thieves were trying to sell the WW II dated

vehicles, believe police.
But how was it possible that four large tanks went missing? "The military training ground is a big area and it's not monitored," says Anna Smarzak from the Regional Police Headquarters in Lublin.

The tanks were stolen on Tuesday night when about ten men equipped
with bulldozers and cranes entered the area. The tank thieves stole T-34 and T-55 tanks which were used for training. The police established that one of the witnesses saw the

tanks leave the ground but they were convinced that this was a part of normal military training.
The tanks are worth an estimated at 60,000 zloty or 13,000 euro.
The police are continuing their investigation.

Love / Discussion about Polish Men's Tempers [103]

As a Pole, I have my tempers. I go mad when women try to be too dominating and pretend they are males. Then I can be really nasty.

But on most occasions I am able to control myself. :):):)

Language / Poles! How do you cope with English phonetics versus English spelling? [37]

Och, I'm sure you do the profession proud, Pawian.

Always.

You know, some words you just have to learn and know the pronunciation of.

I know the pronunciation, most of it, at least. But that`s theory, and there is still practice which is my weak point, precisely my apparatus is unable to utter English sounds as close to original as possible for a longer time.

OUGH, please phonetically write the pron in English.

???

Language / Poles! How do you cope with English phonetics versus English spelling? [37]

Pawian, curiously the same happens when I try to speak with as close to a native Polish accent as possible. --:):):) LOL

I don`t know about you but I started learning professional English pronunciation at the university, when my vocal apparatus was already fully developed and intoxicated by many years of Polish speech. I was too old.

And I am too old to change for better. :(:(

Language / Poles! How do you cope with English phonetics versus English spelling? [37]

Just wondering how you all cope. It's possible to learn to write in English but with wildly inaccurate pronunciation, or to speak English well but with very bad spelling, or any combination of those things.

I'm all ears.

I have no problems with spelling or pronunciation in general.

The problem is with exact native-like pronunciation of English sounds. When I speak like a native speaker for too long, and I am trying to do my best, gradually my mouth, tongue and all muscles around them get very fatigued. They become so stiff that I am forced to speak like a normal person again.

UK, Ireland / Polish students are rising to the top of the class [30]

This is not a secret that during communist period the level of education in Polish schools was higher.

Hmm, I can`t fully agree with you. Higher standard of education in communist times is probably a myth.

Why do we have such an impression today?

In communism the ratio of students who chose high school (liceum) was about 30%. They were the elite, most of them went to universities afterwards.
The rest 70% went to vocational or technical schools to acquire a job after 3 or 5 years learning.

Today the proportions are reverse. About 60% students go to high schools with an aim of enrolling some uni studies afterwards. It is obvius that the level of education have had to go down if students who in the past used to go to vocational schools today attend high schools.

Now the question arises - is it better to educate 20% elite in high schools and send the rest to vocational ones, or open the door wider so that all could join?

As a teacher, I prefer 60%.

What about you?

Love / I need advice - I just found out my Polish boyfriend in Ireland has a wife and children. [40]

They guy is obvious a cheating bastard. Firstly he has been cheating on you on his wife and kids. Secondly it took him a year to tell you. These are not good character traits. What he is doing to her he could easily do to you in the future. Run away fast.

Correct.

There are lots who will say they are single.....oh , sorry , you already got one of them....!

Correct.

History / Targowice and Bar Confederations [34]

Hmmm, Polish talent to choose wrong kings is a material for additional thread, Pawian. Your ancestors had wrong bid on mad Valuis dynasty, and what is more, they elected monarch from another deranged dynasty, Vasa.

I think you cherish a bit distorted view on Polish kings. Most of them were not worse than in other countries. Valoise mentioned by you was hundredfold surpassed by the next king, Stefan Batory, the one who made Russians beg for mercy on their knees. :):)

The problem is that kings were constrained by aristocrats and gentry and couldn`t do much to introduce reforms. In fact the state was ruled not by kings but by magnats.

Anyway Russians had never devastated Poland during partitions as your Swedish relatives had done it during deluge.

There wasn`t direct devastation, it`s true, except for risings and rebellions suppressed by Russians. :)
The problem is somewhere else: the general backwardness of the Russian state promoted the same backwardness in its Polish partition zone. The statistics is merciless, e.g., Russian partition had the biggest number of illiterate people. etc etc etc and the situation didn`t change for decades.

But most of them were Saxonians, well at least one.

And what was Władysław IV`s descent? :):):) He was Polish in 25%.

And you forgot about The Deluge. All partitions were less harmful than one deluge.

:):):):):) Where do you get these opinions from??? They are really amazing :):):):)
