UK, Ireland / Poles flee N. Irleand homes after World Cup riots [70]

Yeah, they got off with it in Lithuania but they got a wake-up call in NI. They need to learn that they can't go doing that kind of thing. No consideration of the consequences for their fellow countrymen.

I agree. This should be a natural kind of brotherhood. Is there really a need for Ukraine to join NATO? Nathan, that question is first and foremost for you.

News / Poland..wake up to a multicultural world [1059]

I didn't say a meritocracy wasn't the way to go, I also believe in that. However, it really fails to work in practice. Gits who do damage to the world, the Rockefellers for example, earn bucketloads of cash. Is that a meritocracy?

Social opportunity, ask an American For4. Yes, there still exists many cultures together but providing chances for immigrants eases tensions. They are then not perceived as scrounging layabouts. It makes the difference between a 'salad bowl' and a 'melting pot'. (I'm assuming you remember your Modern Studies schooling)

Social opportunity is not BS at all. You negate socialism in one dismissive stroke if you say so.

Japan is a very homogeneous country. I meant engineering by selectivism.

Yeah, it is late. TBC my good friend :)

News / Poland. Sold for nothing. [341]

The good thing is, here in Silesia, Poland retained a second language in German. It was hardly sold for nothing. Still, speaking German can get funny looks. My fiancee's parents speak it fluently having been raised in German. When they speak on the phone to a German relative, the Poles give them a strange look.

Social opportunity is not BS. The thing is, there is excessive selectivism in what he said. It would be nice were countries to pick and choose who they could lift and transplant into their meritocratic system but MC is a broader church. In life, you have to accept the bad with the good and you cannot engineer societies in the way that he envisages.

I know what you mean though. You let MC run riot and you move closer to the sh*t pool that he mentioned.

It's stable within the confines under which it operates. Putin has tightened the ship and is aware of the incohesive elements. Awareness is half of the battle.

Embargos, only Russia imposes them? Look at UN sanctions. Outright war, with who? Afghanistan was 30 years ago for them. Chechnya maybe.

Nuclear threat, aimed at who? If you believe Poland then you are a sucker for rhetoric.

Impressing policies? Eh, Poland is in the EU and makes its own domestic laws too. Nobody forces Poland to buy oil from GASPROM. What policies do you mean?

Drafting in an American-style democracy would bring true instability. Their regime is not inherently unstable, it has gone with what it has known for some time and is by no means teetering on the brink of dissipation.

What is this threat you speak of? I, for one, feel safe living next to Russia.

News / Walesa excluded from Polish national gala [38]

Greg, my Polish is good enough to understand. Crow, I'm not aware of Wałęsa having spoken on Kosovo. Dig deep enough and you may find out.

Work / 5000$ Gross Salary. Is it good in Poland? [37]

My fiancee knows people (regular clients) who come into her travel agency and get 80,000PLN per MONTH. Maybe less during this crisis.

I find this hard to believe, VERY actually but it's her word. The Poles love their air figures.

I go along with that to a certain extent. Barack Obama had better put his money where his mouth is. He has called for an abandoning of nukes but I seriously doubt that he'll take the lead in that process.

Regardless of the 'necessity' of the nuking of Hiroshima, it shouldn't have been done. To deny Iran when other dangerous countries like Pakistan have them is pure hypocrisy.

Russia acted like the police on that occasion (in a good way), how can the international community complain when the Allies (NATO) have been doing it for countless years?

What were they to do, sit by idly and watch while independent States got attacked? It wasn't a protracted war, nor was it ever gonna be. It was a staged one, did you see how quickly the nonsense spread?

Restitutio in integrum is just that, they had to restore things to normality.

Sokrates, that's a laugh. I rarely hear talk, whether it be political or otherwise, here about Ukraine. The last time there was togetherness was when Yushenko appeared with Lech Kaczyński and some other Baltic leaders in the facade that was the 'War in Georgia'.

Russia won that war by using end-of-line equipment. It has been said that Russia starts wars very slowly but they seemed to be quick enough off the mark this time round. Poland thought it was a farce. Well, I got news for those who went against Russia. The Russians extended their business in Abkhazia and no-one batted an eyelid. It was all over BBC, some support program that was of a sizeable scale. It was an engineered war which relied on heavy and fallacious propaganda.
