Most likely it came from the town Racibórz, in southern Poland, founded by Duke Racibórz.

question about Raciborski history

Hi! If my last name "Raciborski" comes from the town of Raciborz" Does that mean I am a decendant of the towns' founder Duke Raciborz?

It could be, but no necessarily, you could have been a descended of a person living in that town.

Try contacting them, they are professionals who know more.

Merged: Surname, Mikołajec, Mikołajetz - Raciborz, Rybnik

Hi
Looking for some information in trying to find my late fathers family.
Original surname was Mikołajetz but was changed to Mikolajec after WW2.

Father = Edward
Grandfather = Karl / Karol
Grandmother = Marie / Maria
Sisters, Halina and Franceska
Brother Gus.

Born Raciborz / Rydnik 1922/1926

There is some confusion with my fathers date of birth. He maintained he was born in 1922, but some paperwork that has appeared shows 1926.
Polish red cross have said he was born in 1922.

Please help as I am very confused.

Thanks

PS I couldn't remember my old account details so registered again.

My great-grandmother was Anna Mikołajczyk, daughter or John Mikołajczyk and Victoria Szczepanic. Anna was born about 1850? Married Sebastian Fiołek. Living at Mysłenice (south of Krakow) in 1887 when my grandfather was born. Any information about Mikołajczyk in this area appreciated.

Weird, my grandmother's name is Mikolajczak (it may have had that ł, but I only have two US docs with her name on it.) Her first name is Anastasia and she was born January 14, 1882 (where I don't know) I just know she had a sister, this sister was to come to America but chickened out so Anastasia came instead. She died March 21, 1938 in Milwaukee WI. She married a John Hojnacki (also known as Jan Chojnacki, who was possibly born in Prussia-Where's that?) If you come across any of those names in your search let me know, see if any of this helps you out.
