I am searching for my ancestors who are still in Poland. Any information or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Here is the background I have....
My grandmother Katherine Agnes Sroka (maiden name) recently passed away at the age of 94. Prior to her death, and from speaking to members of my family, I have gathered the following information. I will begin with My Grandfathers side as I have a bit more on them.
Granfather: Franiusz (Frank) Wasik. Arrived in the US approximately in the mid to late 1920's. He was the last of his brothers (Jacob and Albert), and one sister (Josephine) to arrive in the US. I have been told our family owned a large farm, with vegetables, grain, livestock, and fruit orchards. There apparently was no shortage of family recipes for vodka, cherry/ plum brandy, and cherry/plum wine. I have a photo of my grandfather in a polish cavalry uniform, with a sabre, and have been told that he fought against Russia in the Battle of Warsaw. He had to leave Poland shortly threafter. I am told he was a potter in addition to being a farmer and horse trader. His father may have been named John. I am in posession of a few nice old photo's, one of which depicts his brother Albert, in what looks like an Austrian Uniform. This leads me to believe his village was in what was once known as Galacia during one of the partitions. His area of origin was in or around either of two places, Brza Krajewski, or Nowa Demba ( I hope I have done these places justice in my attempt at spelling, but one of these villages is where my grandmother is from, and the other my grandfather. I am confused as to which was which). There is more to the tale of Frank and his brothers, but that takes place in the states, and will be of no use in my search for relatives in Poland.
My grandmother Katherine Agnes Sroka who recently passed, had told me most of the above information. She arrived in the United States with her sisters, one of which was named Mary. They were known to me as Chuchi Yaga, and Chuchi Monka. Apparently, their parents Pauline and John had come to the US, and then returned to Poland, building a large house and farm holding. My grandmothers mother, died at a younger than normal age, and John had re-married. I am not sure if this had anything to do with the sisters coming to the US together or not. Apparently her father, John, was also a horse trader like the other side of my family. Again, the area of origin is in or around either Brza Krajewski, or Nowa Demba. My grandmother also told me her village was in an area near Lancut.
Any help with this? Thank you in advance for your responses.
