You might still think that after viewing these pictures. ;)

I used tinned haggis. Moistened it with water, not whisky. I also thought of making a whisky sauce to go with these but didn't have time tonight. Maybe another night...

They tasted good despite the fact that they don't look that great. ;)

  • Haggis heating up.

  • 6 Haggis 'n' Cabbage

  • The innards...

hmmm... that'd be hard...
there is one British restaurant (it's called British something) where i want to go for dinner.... what would you recommend me to eat?

What a cracking idea, PD. I can imagine Scots liking Hunters's Stew (aka bigos). Given that our respective countries may well be no1 and no2 in the world for soups, you have to go with a range of appetising little numbers.

Neither of us can lay claim to clam chowder, but hey, nobody's perfect ;)

Hunters's Stew (aka bigos

do the Brits, after hunting, eat bigos?
:)

Actually, I learned from an American that they call it Hunter's Stew. I think it was dear old Zgubi that posted that. We just call it bigos.

I'm not a hunter but that's the kind of food hunters eat I reckon.

Oh, find out the name of it, they might have an online menu. :)

Try things like steak pie, shepherds pie, toad in the hole. If they have such things. Maybe that needs to be another thread... ;)

Thanks Seanus. :) I think there is something similar in older Scottish cuisine. Maybe need to look at the Highlanders for some advice on that. Might be called Hunter's Pie...maybe, can't be sure.

( Hmmm, wonder what the kitchen smells of.........a mix of cabbage and haggis ! )

Actually yes. ;) But also of the garlic and herb potatoes I was cooking at the same time. :)

How about some Fisherman's Pie or Admiral's Pie, PD? I dunno how that would be received amongst Poles.

You are right, PD. I gave my Dad bigos and he found it to be so similar to Scottish fare.

The Poles are not that big on pies but why not try? They are meat eaters after all.

Forfar Bridies would be quite popular.

steak pie would be with a pastry crust, shepards pie is mince and carrots with a mash potato topping.

It sounds more like competing claims. Try Young's Admiral's Pie, heavenly.

The Poles like meatballs too. Can't go wrong with the old Campbells

It's a lot of fish and that's something I am not keen on personally. I don't know many Poles who eat a great deal of fish either. Who knows?

different names because of different meet?

Yes. Steak pie - chunks of beef in a rich gravy (use ale as well) with a pastry top.

Shepherds pie - traditionally minced lamb with veg and topped in mashed potato.

Seanus can describe the fish pies clearer, they are just not for me.

my, I though the the party was over a long time ago. This sounds heavy duty preparation to me. LOL.

What about appetizers: koreczki

We're going to use them as part of the "welcome" buffet. You know, when you come in the door and have your coat taken. ;)

I didn't but my co-cook did (we are back to only two of us) so if she can prepare it, we'll have it. We're taking "donations" from guests too so that might appear with that too...

This sounds heavy duty preparation to me. LOL

It's a heavy duty night. If it's going to be done, it's to be done right. The guests won't appreciate a half thought about menu on the night..

Coat taken? What, like Clouseau? He enters the hotel and the man asks for his hat, his coat and his gloves. He takes them, thanks him and walks off, LOL

I hope so. :) I'm hoping there will be time to take pictures to post on PF. The date is set for March 27th.

Hopefully it won't be as complicated as that Seanus. ;) It's just a cloak room...

There was a vodka/Irn-Bru concoction before. It was called WKD but I guess it was taken off the shelves a long time ago.

The Poles would like potato waffles. They have gofry.

PD, coleslaw is a real winner as a side-serving ingredient. The Poles will know it as it is marketed under the English name. The Poles love side salads, surówki. They have a pikanty version which isn't as good as the łagodny version. Spicy coleslaw just isn't as good as mild.

WKD still make the "Iron Brew" version. The benefit being that your teeth can rot at the same time as your liver.

You can bypass your teeth and just pour it right down the hatch by tilting your head back, LOL

The date is set for March 27th.

Due to unforeseen circumstances I was unable to attend this night. This also meant there were no haggis, neeps and tatties and they were missed I am told.

I was waiting to post until I had received the pictures of the food that were taken but so far I haven't received them so I decided to post anyway. From all accounts it was a good night that even involved karaoke...(not sure I'm sorry to have missed that part ;) and my friend and I have even planned to have another in May but no set date as yet.

Thanks again to all who offered suggestions, I'll certainly be using them again for May.

:)

Yes it is. They may still arrive and if they do I'll post them. Otherwise it'll need to wait until May where I'll be able to take my own. :)
