How about adding country flag to the user profile ?

Hey,

If yes, then can it be auto detected based on user ip address, like where are they posting from? I know it might require a bit of work and resources, but at least it would help new members/guests to ignore the random abuses from the people who have nothing to do with Poland, but just want to mess around.

I didn't check if it was already suggested, so excuse me in case repost ;)

Just a suggestion ;)

What do you guys think?

Won't all the Americans change theirs to a Canadian one? ;) ;)

That's why we need geo auto detection, instead of allowing users to fake it :p

why do you think the flag will help determining it? I cannot see a logic behind this at all.

Can we always tell when people fake it? ;) Why would we want to know the country of people, so we can wheel out our prejudices and stereotypes? I'm not saying the idea is bad, per se, but people have this natural tendency. I think it's funny when sb calls me a dumb yank, for example.

When someone from Uganda is pissed off at me on the Polish forum, at least I would know to not to bother with him?

Seanus, I think it might help those who truly seek for some advice on this forum, but in return all the get is random abuse from those who have never even been to Poland or know anything really about Polish people, thats what the final objective is ;)

Why, you think that some big dude like Kamala from the WWF (years ago) would jump through the screen and nobble ye?

It just leads to prejudice. You can always ask the Mods for info in the event that you feel your security may be breached. They are there to protect users.

I wasn't thinking about myself or anything like that. It just about those who have never used internet forums or rarely, and somehow manage to post here in order to learn something about Poland/Polish people but all they get is guesses from someone without any first hand experience..

For new people these random abuses can be very depressing ya know ;)

The idea has sth to commend it but we can always ask. Szkotja2007 is off to a good start :)

Since when has the Saltire Cross been a lack of imagination? ;) ;) It is the symbol of it, the open blue sky with the cross of freedom.

I don't like the idea, and I think neither will admin, it's same thing as it was with gender signs.. what will you try to add next, skin colour? On the other hand many people labeled me as "not polish" because I'm pretty neutral in most of the "anti-polish" threads. Some people can't get through the idea that someone from their own country can have unbiased, neutral outlook

Simple then move back home then :)
God knows which one mine would be as half the time I am in Poland and half the time in the UK with an occasional dip into the VPN world of the USA and Canada.

That would really do espana's head in seeing me instantly showing up in different countries.

Oh... is it like birdbanding with a GPS-system? :) Always dreamt about that!
Seriously if you meant IP-detection it might not work either.

lol :D

Well, this idea came to my mind this morning when I saw a member from Israel was calling names to another member from Spain for no reason, so I thought Spanish guy should know its not a Polish person who has a problem with him being a Spanish, its an Israeli..

By the way, IP address can be stored at the time of registration, no need to keep on tracing someone down ;)

Database should be updated once in a while, until then deal with being an American ;)

Yeah true, I've seen less sophisticated sites than this with a map that tracks visitors from around the globe via IP address. It would be cool see.

On this forum we can request new and not so common feature because its probably coded by Admin himself, so he can try new things out.

PS. Tell me, did I pick up a good one for forum display? I am deficient in full colour recognition in my sight. I can`t see a few colours.

You should not bother with people when they display any type of undesired behavior regardless their country they reside in. LOL

good point ADM:)
