A Polish scientist Iga Franiak- Pietryga discovered new drug treating leukemia. Lymphocytic leukemia is the most often recognised leukemia attacking adults. Nanoparticples used in the therapy are able to find the cancer and "force him to commit suicide". The new drug got award in Paris and now will be shown is Busuels and then USA.

Great news for the women herself and sick ppl but what do you think- what are the chances the drug will receive patent and will be produced in Poland?

Sorry- despite medical studies I couldn't find link in English

True.

Hard to say as I'm not much into this sector but in quite a few similar cases "international companies" were putting their dirty hands on such innovations and we got nothing out of it. Hopefully some lessons were learnt...

How far along the clinical trials are they?

interesting. I will be watching how it plays out because apparently scientists in Canada have already found a cure for cancer but it is being blocked by pharma companies because they have the most to lose.

you can google "canada finds cure for cancer" yourselves and loads of stuff pops up.

No, the rest of the story (brrrr) is only for subscibers.

The interesting thing is that the sugar on the surface of those nanoparticples cause the cancer cells to die "naturally" and that way the sick person has no side effects like in the case of chemo.

The most important thing now is to get the patent. It happened before that it was like "who's the first". I hope she will patent it and preferably produce the drug in Poland.

The pharmaceutical industry certainly has the infrastructure to produce it here. During the trials there is almost always an international element, however if this works it could be a real moneyspinner, aside from the benefit to humanity.

True, that's why I wonder if they are going to patent it in time. If yes, it can be quite a energy/money shot into Polish pharmaceutical buisness. I just hope it won't be too expensive for patients.

A cure for cancer would be extremely bad for the economy, think of the unemployment that would cause.

and the money it would lose.

I think the cure for cancer has been created some time ago but big pharm companies are blocking its production. This isn't a so called "conspiracy theory" --it is a reality.

Let's think about this for a second. Chemo drugs are freaking expensive. I have a friend who last year went through a 10 month round of chemo, fortunately his company paid for the drugs because they are not covered in Canadian health care and they are flipping expensive. Even the generic drugs.

So if a cure for cancer were to come around- who has the most to lose? Drug companies- and considering drug companies spend billions on advertising ----this would be a huge dent in their profits.

So, I hope Poland plays stubborn (not difficult at all in this country) and doesn't succumb to the tactics of big pharma companies. Because it truly would be amazing.

are there actually Polish pharmaceutical companies??

Chemotherapy drugs aren't covered in Canada?

no. Health care is covered via taxes but chemo is a drug and is not covered unless you have insurance either corporate or private. But.....drugs are not as expensive as in other countries. Drug company advertising is illegal in Canada. So, as a patient you can ask for a generic brand and the hospital will give it to you.

Wow, that's good news.

Who knows... But I'm rather pessimistic, to be honest...

are there actually Polish pharmaceutical companies??

Yes, for example: Polpharma, USP, Adamed, LEK-AM, Bioton.

a few of those listed are not, but a few are. Let's hope they don't get blocked by the big guns.
