Others who are more intelligent earn more?? Go and join the circus, mate, you'll fit right in. Look at scientists. Super smart guys but they get peanuts in the UK. Go figure, dumbass.

Everyone is amazed when I tell them I earn 6,500PLN a month.

You bastard :D . . . . need a butler ?

You can take 1,400PLN off of that figure :(

Still, as many Poles will tell you, it's quite rare for teachers to get over 5000PLN. Many state school teachers scramble for much less.

Regardless, 5000 is still a great salary in Poland....bastard :D

Edit : I couldnt believe what most state teachers in Poland get until my gfs friend told me recently. Compared to teachers in Ireland its awful, and Irish teachers are still complaining regardless of them being the best paid in Europe. Much wants more

Well, Ireland had that bubble. The so-called Celtic Tiger led to a sea-change in thinking. People started to get greedy I heard, then came a cropper when they overstretched.

5000PLN is not as good as you think, my friend. You can swipe 2000PLN off of that easily and that's not including food or any other shopping. My fiancee now pays 1/5 of the rent to keep me paying just under 2000PLN a month.

Indeed, it had to burst and for the sake of future generations Im glad it did . . although they will be paying a heavy price for our greed and idiocity.

Its still a good salary relatively speaking, certainly more than what I earn. Although I am hoping to rent out an appartment back in Ireland soon which should see me a lot more comfortable....well at least until the currency rate changes for the worst :)

Yeah, I always remember the teachers complaining but I think teachers, education is probably the most important asset.

Well, Ireland had that bubble. The so-called Celtic Tiger led to a sea-change in thinking. People started to get greedy I heard, then came a cropper when they overstretched.

I see that as a natural progression, give a poor people a load of money and it goes straight to their heads.
I hope it is a learning curve.
Irish people in Ireland had been very poor for the past 800 years, so I think it is understandable.

Absolutely true, Seanny. I can put my life savings on Poles doing the same. I've seen some spending here and it's staggering.

To answer the thread more, the cost of living is still disproportionate to the average salary. Most notably in car prices. Beer is an exception :) :)

Very true, couldnt agree more but if they are very well paid for their contribution to society . . that should suffice.

Irish people in Ireland had been very poor for the past 800 years, so I think it is understandable.

We were the poorest of the poor for many centuries, then suddenly we are rich for 10 years. Throwing all that money our way was like throwing altar boys at an Irish bishop. It will be a very painful learning curve, but one that may protect our children and grand children from living on debt and credit. Im hopeful we will return to the days when if we wanted something we worked hard and saved for it . . . the days of easy credit are well dead, everywhere. The Poles are similar to us in many ways, and I see that materialisim and credit culture growing there more and more. Ireland part 2

Quite insightful commentary. Depending on what you read and believe, the crisis is here for quite some time yet and will bite more. I have come to the conclusion that Poles have to borrow vast sums of credit. There is simply no other way to live as many often do. There will be complications for many.

Hi, I live in poland and i'ts very hard, very hard.
We have minimal payment and it = 1126zl (złoty) brutto (851.17netto), and avereng payment in the country = 3033zl brutto(2179.63netto). Netto is that u realy have in the pocket. Brutto -tax - ZUS = Netto

Most ppl earn 1200-2000n (netto) and 2500n is very very good payment job. In Warsow and other bigger city like Wroclaw or Krakow u can earn more like 2000-3500n and n its like round (2800-4200 zl brutto), but the cost of living is much higger.

Now some living cost:
Why meany ppl emigrate from poland?
so....cost will be very round down
flat: like 500zl brutto to 1500 for apartament in Warsow + tv internet water and etc.
Food: 400 if u eat a little.
fuel: 1,70/l LPG; 4,00/E98; 3,60/ON.
and thats all, you must eat, sleep and work work work to eat and have house or flat when u must sleep to work work work.

Price for bad love cost its 500-1000zl, but every sleep on 30 or 10 years old bed. (that we live in Poland).
new simply car it cos 50000-70000 and when u earn 1200-2000 the new car its not for you, so we bought a usesd car for 17000 and we happy.

People work 30 years for 1400zl and try to surviver.
I, my sister, brother and my meany friend work hard to only life, we end of studdy and must work in bar, to get a good payment job is very hard. I do not know a Person who are earn more then 5000zl netto. Meany of us try to have beeter job live in UK or other EU country.

Avereng payment in EU poland is 300EURO, and UK 1300E. This will give u a very good look about living in Poland.
When u work for native spekers its good payment job, dont get lough me when i read u can earn 10000, yes of cors u can earn that mony but u must have a LUCKY.

my friend is IT programer= 3800brutto. Old rang fireman 3000brutto, nurses =1400zl brutto.
and that how we live in poland.

From my experience of Poland thats about right Qw. Like every country there are those lucky to earn a lot more than the average but they are in the minority. Judging by the circles I move in, the salaries range from minimum (A friend who works in a supermarket) to a lawyer in Krakow earning close to 5000. Of course its possible to find those who earn more but as I said they would be in the minority and certianly not an accurate reflection of salaries in Poland. Thank you for the post Qw, very accurate and informative for anyone wishing to move to Poland.

By the ay, when you say 'bad love' do you mean prostitutes ? Those prices would seem excessive but then again I wouldnt know lol

Hello Qw,

And welcome to the Polish forums.

If you don't mind me asking, where in Poland do you live?.

Your English is much better than my Polish.

Thanks for your post.

My mistake 'bad love'= 'bed low cost' :)
I mean a bed in the bedroom, a cheap bed cost its 500 - 1000zl so its not that low cost when u earn that minimal payment.

but when u want to abought a love, sex with a prostitutes :) the ladys simply stand at the some street (girl from bialorus, rosjia) but they dirty, or have a (aids, hiv) or ... so if u like 50zl to mayby 100. You can also go to the specialy club or house where is beter cuality and price hight.

Im living near Warsaw.

Call center employer 1400-2000netto.
In credit financial (u sold, give credit a customer) about 1800netto
teacher in school 1400 - 2000netto can be better but this is real peyment i know.
car mechanic 1500-even 3 or 4000
but this is hard work 10h/day.
Driver in post like GLS, UPS can 1500-2500
Computer stores seller 1800netto, 6day/week
Salles in supermarket = minimal.
In Mcdonalds restaurant its 1400 brutto = 104133 netto

And.... mitsubishi pajero 155392 netto = netto + 22% vat (tax car) = 189578,24 zl :)

ohhh Im glad of that u can read me so simply as I could try write.

Cost of Living, Average Salaries and Job sites in Poland

well, according to what I've experienced in Poland, the wages don't cover the cost of living. I was spending about 3000zl. a month just for my accomodation and food. Most of people I've met were making anywhere between 600zl.-1200zl. Now I'd like to ask our Polish friends here how they manage it with their survival.

Simply: only food and pay for flat or 1 room in flaat (its cheeper) and monthly ticket to ride to work. no cinema, no niht club, or very offen, no new clothes. We have second hand store, so if u do not have cash for new one buy this what is - this is realy popular stores, we name it "ciucholand".

If I must answear u how to live for 600-1200zl I tell 'polak potrafi" "poles can or poles can do" -
can life for that funny payment like.

I wanted to thank each one of you for your help. This website has been a god sent for my International Marketing Class. I live in the U.S. and needed help with this paper. We needed to pull actual information from the country we decided on. BubbaWoo, thank you for everything you've said, you seem like a pool of information! My boyfriend and I are both Polish decent (he is 25% and I am much, MUCH less!), but needless to say, we both would like to visit one day...

Thank you everyone for all your help!

Generally, there is a disconnect between salaries of educated (University) people and those with only a high school education or some technical training. Age and experience play a significant roll as well. It would have been much more useful if you folks had identified your education/experience/occupation when providing salary info.

As for cost of living, it seems many in Europe are accustomed to city life and typically prefer to live near the city center. I work in silicon valley (California) and while I enjoy a very comfortable lifestyle, I pay for it with a 65 mile commute. I would not have been able to afford a home near my job.

With that said, it would be interesting to see what the ratio of compensation to cost of living looks like for folks commuting into Polish towns.

Suppose you live in Blonie and commute into Warsaw (I know this is doable as my wife's classmate did this). What is the median home price in a Warsaw "suburb" versus an urban/metropolitan equivalent?

Hi to all!

I have finished faculty of Economics and I have singed Master studies (I will finished it for cca 6 monts). I am thinking to move to work anywhere else then in my country (I am living in Montenegro, ex Yugoslavia) because of very bad possibilities to work and live. I have 3 years of working experience (in commercial department) and I am speaking English and Italian language, but I have 400 euro/month salary so you can see why I want to move somewhere else.

I have applied on open job position in Krakow for Junior Accountant who will have this responsibilities: 1) daily contact with international clients (helpdesk), 2) great scope of operations according to the specific needs: ledger, account receivable liabilities, liquid assets, 3) making reports for clients and for internal usage, 4) effective cooperation with colleagues in order to achieve the team goals, 5) meeting the project requirements.

For this job they are asking to be: 1) fluent knowledge of Serbian language, (my Serbian is Native) 2) very good command of English, (my English is advanced) 3) client focus attitude, 4) experience in customer service will be an advantage, 5) very good computer skills (MS Office, Excel). (my PC skills are on advanced level)

How much money to ask? ANY HELP?

marry her then...but one thing to remember...when you go around making everyone happy...you usually end up making yourself miserable.

have the kid, marry the girl, but dont stick with the marriage if you dont love the girl. suffer two years and then get out.

If you have money, Poland is really great. If you are struggling, you simply resent Poland, Poles, everything Polish.

Hello, everybody,

I am from China. I just found a job in Wroclaw. The gross salary is 5200 PLN. The annual bonus will depend on the performance. I still need to rent a flat in Wroclaw. I'm wondering regardless of the bonus if this salary can cover all of my living costs in Wroclaw? Does this salary hit the average point in Wroclaw?

Thanks in advance!

The cost of living affordable at 2500Zl's a month. I am given a car and apartment by the company, so imagine this is fine for living in Poland. I am single: no kids, wives etc... enough for spends and friends :) so, if I had to run the car and pay the flat, I would expect 4000 a month to be minimum for your lifestyle.

Hi, I need a little advice. I have been offered an English teaching job in Kedzierzyn-Kozle (which I know is a generally undesirable location, but am willing to go with, since its my first teaching post and I don't have many options) with a starting wage of 1850 zloty/month, although accommodation is provided (but utility bills are not). My living costs, generally, are low (although I smoke, but not more than a pack of tobacco a week probably) but my research suggests to me that I may well still be hard-pushed to live on this salary for the course of the contract and still be able to save a little money by the end of it (and by a little, I mean £50-100 a month).

What is job offer protocol in Poland? Am I supposed to bargain with the prospective employer in the hope of getting the wage increased? Any advice on whether to accept this contract would be much appreciated, dziekuje! :)

Hi ya,

I live in warsaw but i suppose day to day expenses are roughly the same, My gal friend (polish) teaches english and history in English at high school and gets paid about 1900z kinda part time although she is always there, so i suppose the wage seems fair.... Will be other teachers on the site that know better than me though :-)

If your accommodation is free then its not so bad, expect to pay around 130z for a decent internet connection per month, and around 200z for food a week.... Drinking out is between 5-9z per beer, Italian meal for 2 with beer about 60-100z eating out, pouch of drum tobacco, 40g is 17,50z as i smoke myself.... short journey on bus, say 15mins 2-80z

It's not good, unless the accomodation is decent. The wage is very, very bad - how many hours do they expect you to work a week for that wage? I know a lot of nonsense is spoken about wages, but if that's the sum before tax, you'll struggle to live. After tax, it's livable - but definitely not enough to put any money away.

Am I supposed to bargain with the prospective employer in the hope of getting the wage increased?

It's worth a try. I'd try and get them to agree to 2000zl/net a month with accomodation - if they agree, then it shouldn't be so bad. It does depend though - if the contract ties you to that school and no other (including no private lessons!) - then it's a bad deal.

expect to pay around 130z for a decent internet connection per month

No way - you can get a good connection for around 70zl. If you're paying 130zl, what the hell have you got - 16mb+?

Drinking out is between 5-9z per beer

Finally, someone who is realistic about prices in Warsaw. I'm here now - and the prices are only slightly higher (and in some cases, lower!) than in Poznan!
