The flyby did not disappoint the small crowd that had gathered to watch. The sleek jet roared by - red and white, smooth and crisp - then disappeared from sight, momentarily looping around before landing and coming to a stop at the Hernando County Airport at noon Thursday.

The TS-11 Iskra, a former Polish training jet, was on its way to compete in the 47th-annual Championship Air Races, which take place Wednesday through Sept. 19 in Reno, Nev.

Keep in mind - This has absolutely nothing to do with WWII or Smolensk's Crash!

On a side note, Iskras are dirt cheap. You can pick one up for about $50k

Getting me kind of interested...wonder what insurance runs on one...

about 500 liters per hour of Jet-A, cruises at 350kts...not too shabby.

It is old, 1960s, plane.
Unfortunately, long ago the government have canceled it's succesor, I22 Iryda, (that way they could steal somewhat more money) so Polish Air Forces for years now have no proper school plane. We'll have to buy something abroad, as it is way too late to start up a new poject, but even that is at least five years ovedue. Danmed politicians.

For such a small airforce, it wouldn't make sense to develop another trainer. Polish AF should pick up that new Pilatus.

I'm really starting to look direction Iskra... 50k for that kind of performance.... mmmmmm

Polish PC-7, the Iskra is still the only jet trainer.

I own 3 TS-11 Iskras and owned the L39 also. The Iskra is much more affordable and flys better. We are putting a Gemeral Electic CJ-610 in one right now and it will be a hot rod when it's done. My email if anyone needs info is mlhairboss@yahoo.

How many hours do put on the Isrka you want to convert? What made you decide to switch? Is the CJ-610 better on fuel? How many hours do you need to insure it?
