You said that there is many of illegal Polish emigrants in States and we should blame these people for strict rules regarding visa procedures. I dont blame them, I blame american low.

God bless ignorants. So pure, so innocent ...

They employ drones to monitor these areas.

cool!!!

I am an Aussie and my girlfriend of 4 years has tried in March 2009 at the London's office. She works as Civil Engineer, has been in UK for 4 years, is getting 50K a year, has a healthy bank account, been to US twice previously and returned on time with no problems. She has also been to Australia twice - never a problem. I booked a nice 5 day holiday in NY for us to go and never expected any trouble. She took proof of employment/earnings, statement from employer, bank account statement, previous visas to US / AUS, a proof of us being partners and other documents to show her ties. The whole interview virtually lasted 2 minutes, two questions asked on the documentation provided then a final decision with a smile: "sorry, you have not proved sufficiently that you would not stay in US"......final decision, no ifs or buts or chance to elaborate.

I mean, I don't want to be unfair and call anyone stupid but how else do you explain this?
I mean, she is a senior civil eng getting equivalent of around 100K US and this civil servant is saying that she is 'likely' to go there and work illegally as what - a bloody cleaner for 5US an hour ? Thats basically calling an applicant an idiot. The fact that she has been in US twice and has been granted visa twice has meant absolutely nothing to the official - doesn't a good record proof anything?....To a normal, logical person, a job like that and a good record like that should make her a prime tourist target for any US official - sure, they earned the US 100 visa app fee that day, but they missed out on 2K that we ended up spending in Toronto - I don;'t know if there seriously is anyone out there who can argue with this and I am sure most americans would be appalled....So, at the end of the day, getting a visa appears to be down to the mood of the official or the quota system that they surely are running behind the counters.

I am still puzzled; US which is troubled economically should really look forward to capture as much tourism as possible and yet it appears to go the other way. Funny enough, she got a multiple entry visa to AUS within two days of applying on the internet and filling in forms - no interview necessary. Seriously, people, spare yourself 100 pounds and get AUS visa free or go to Canada ( Poles do not need Canadian Visa). Interestingly enough, we are up for another trip this Christmas and NY would be great for shopping, but wasting 100 pounds again will be better spend on Vancouver's ever friendly hospitality - no hassles, no questions asked.

That is exactly the problem, right there. There is another thread on which people seem to think that everything is great with the visa program. 25% refusal rate by the way.

Yes, really.

Food is tasteless crap, the people are idiots, the scenery is cookie cutter national chain stores in every little town. Its depressing as hell.

Minimum wages is half most European countries and the populations health (and healthcare) is terrible.

Sounds like you don't get out much.

Yes, but median wages are higher. And Americans seem to live just as long as Europeans...even taking into account that we're shooting each other while we eat our triple whoppers. Less sick days too.

I'd agree if you're talking about Mickey Dee's. No, they're not.

Perhaps minimum wages are lower in the United States, but so are the housing prices and many other things over there! I'm tempted to agree with you on the last one, but it's a different story when you can afford decent healthcare.

the scenery is cookie cutter

Rocky Mountains? Nevada? National Park? Niagara Falls? Grand Canyon? The beaches? Florida?

With all the great local restaurants available, why on earth would you spend money in a chain restaurant

Depends.. Isn't Hooters a chain restaurant aswell?

Sounds like you don't get out much.

Well, I've spend months in the US, eating out in NYC, Californian and Texas. 99% of the food was bulked up by volume, processed crap. Even expensive NYC restaurants were all show and little taste. Quality in the US is actually defined by size not taste.

The 1% exception was a Sacramento old town Mexican restaurant that was truly memorable, even though I was the only customer at the time, the food was superb.

A lot of Jews don't like Poles

NYC? Aureole, Gotham Bar and Grill, Blue Hill, Peter Luger. New York has some of the best high end eateries in the world.

There are also great pizza joints, delis, great Mexican, amazing Korean and Chinese. New York is hard to beat.

Dallas has some nice places, Austin is great for eating out. Especially if you like Tex-mex and Mexican...or BBQ. NXNW in Austin is probably my favorite restaurant.

F*ck California (even though San Diego has some nice places too, and the brew pubs up north are awesome).

That's one of the things that I really miss about the US, the availability of good reasonably priced restaurants. I'm a sucker for local places and taco wagons though...

So many Poles stay illegally in the US

And ofc you know how many?Show me statistics ,or stop talking b******t It is 2010 not eighties.

I live in Poland as well and have had nothing but grief trying to deal with immigration

Then GTFO, nobody needs you there or stop b*******g Love it or leave it sucker.

that EU will make it a requirement for all US citizens to have visas to any european country

Not US citizens but US diplomats.Check the facts before posting.
To those who want to come to US for vacation:you going to spend money there and you let them hummiliate you? There are many nice places around the world where we don't need visas.

To those who want to come here to do menial jobs:think again coz you are better off working in EU ,belive it or not.

I prsonally have never had any bad experience crossing US border ,it was either nice chat with immigration officer or just "how you doing sir?"One extreme situation took place when I came here for the first time long time ago with "work and travell ".My bro got drunk and we had little fight on the plane. After landing we were both arrested at the airport.I was so upset that I told the immigration officer that I am going back with the next plane coz I don't want to be around this azzhole(my bro). The officer (black dude) looked at me and said "America is a big country ,you can go here or you can go there.U don't have to be around him".We were both released.Maybe not exactly on a topic but from my experience the worst b*****s working for USCIS are 3rd world immigrants not born Americans,I learned that during my PRC interview but thats different story.

In my opinion, the EU should drop visa requirements for American, Australian and Canadian citizens.

Has anyone ever been to Portland, Maine? Whats it like?

I probably have a harder time getting into my own country than you do.

"So what were you doing in Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan...I can't even pronounce the other one..."

That'd be Kyrgyzstan, just sightseeing.

"Sir, could you please follow that officer..."

Britain is just about to make the immigration laws more strict for those outside of the EU, including the above...By the way, there are plenty of losers that come from all countries you mention above why should we make it easier for some? Do you know how tough it is to get into America? Ive got a colleague going over for a 6 month secondment (an inter company transfer) and he has 5 hour interview with the American consulate in London..

If you think America is an easy touch, forget it! Oh I also know the meaning for Fort Knox, you cant even take a wallet in their! Everything has to be done through our immigration office who transfer the papers over...so strict!

Dunno, but it looks really nice in the pictures.

If I can get some capital together, I might spend the summer over there. The yanks allow us Paddys in for three months without a visa. Tis very kind.
