Polish woman Monika Konczyk leaped into the arms of rescuers as fire engulfed her flat.

guardian.co.uk/uk/2011/aug/10/croydon-woman-jump-burning-building

The first details about the woman pictured leaping from a burning building in Croydon on Monday night have emerged.

Friends have told how they rescued Monika Konczyk from her smoke-filled flat in a moment that has become the defining image of the riots.

I wonder how much compensation will be given as people pay for those properties. She escaped but others might not be so lucky in the future. The Polish Embassy is undergoing a busy spell, I gather.

I read the article.

The people who did did should be jailed, they are putting many lives at risk.

So the politicians then? ;)

More seriously, they should be targetted but the people have had enough and I can see where they are coming from while not condoning what they are doing.

Polish woman caught up in London riots

Serbian newspapers are full of news about this Polish woman.

i noticed one especially interesting comment: `Polish language bringing salvation in Britain`. i smiled on that. He, he. Anyway, it was about fact that woman said that she could jump only after she heard (in Polish language) that she needs to jump to survive.

I watched the extensive discussion in the House of Commons and it would appear that major compensation measures are being proposed but I feel that the government's estimate of damages is rather, well, conservative. That Polish woman will be somewhat further down the ranking of preferential cases and may find that the compensation she receives is minimal.

Anyone who suffers loses due to riot has to make a claim against the government. There isn't an order of claimants or a maximum amount that can be paid out. Victims compensation is pretty generous, rape is worth £20K

Rape is worth £20,000. I mean what the hell! You make it sound like a woman decides to get raped for the money.

"oh hi Pauline, what you doing tonight?"

" I don't know I'm thinking about going out a getting myself raped." " it's £20,000, don't you know?"

Thats a cracker seanus, bang on.

People will die and my heart goes out to the lady jumping from a burning building. Its society that has shaped these hooligans, nobody's born a hooligan.

Well, quite :) :)

At least that woman didn't have to jump like many in the WTC towers did. That was ghastly, The Falling Man documentary. Still, she would have been afraid but there was only one option, apparently.

We Racowie don`t like to see any Polish woman in dangerous situation. How could Brits allow itself to be that crazy. i personally had some respect for Britain but, now... everything is destroyed between us- between me and Britain.

i speak exactly about that Polish woman.

indeed you have, it's a pity others couldn't follow your example

indeed you have.

yes. i am upset with Britain. Look what happened to that poor but brave Polish woman!

Its all about British government. British government is criminal organization, regularly in alliance with mujaheedines. Complete that fu*** NATO is only idiot after idiot. Only Poles and other Slavs are there by mistake, others absolutely deserve NATO. EU just a little bit differ from NATO

it's a pity others couldn't follow your example

true. God bless you

Mods, Rock also talked about Turks helping in the front lines. What other angle can be taken? There are many Poles in Croydon, Ealing and other London areas so it was inevitable that they'd become ensconced in the troubles.

Its a tuff one to stay on topic with though, i cant think of any thing to say other than i wonder if she kicked any of those firemen in the head as she jumped. In the films they used to hold out a big blanket didn't they and all kind of stand around holding an edge.

Also great jump, she went feet first, some would panic wouldn't they and just start somersaulting. In hindsight she would have been much easier to catch had she just busted a butterfly dive, you know arms out belly to the floor stylee.

I think you can safely close the thread now Mods as there is nothing more to be said.

Polish woman caught up in London riots? Yes she was. Shame! Now, no more discussion unless you are going to discuss it more generally.

then listen... if something happened to that Polish woman, Serbs could burn complete Britain. Not to mention what could Poles do. Poles could eventually urinate Britain. Fire and water, that`s what Britain can expect if anything similar happens again
