The inventor of the kilt was an English Quaker from Lancashire, Thomas Rawlinson.

The Kilt was dress for the lairds never for the common folk as myth would have you believe. Can you imagine the Scots folk walking the glens or going to the village in a kilt in winter : - )

The kilt was a practical dress wear for gaelic tribes long before the romantics took the notion. According to the Romans ect.

The History of the Kilt stretches back to at least the end of the 16th century....
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_kilt

The Encyclopædia Britannica says the word is Scandinavian in origin.

The Scots word derives from the Old Norse kjalta, from Norse settlers who wore a similar, pleated garment.

I think I read somewhere, the kilt, in one form or another, was introduced into Scotland via present day Ireland. Anyone else hear something similar?

...These people are simply believing what they have been told-that the kilt is a medieval garment-and accepting that at face value. We cannot blame people for suffering from these misconceptions. It is what they have been taught by the poorly researched "myths" that pass for Scottish history.

The Decimal Point John Napier

Al-Khwarizmi also wrote a treatise on Hindu-Arabic numerals. The Arabic text is lost but a Latin translation, "Algoritmi de numero Indorum" in English "Al-Khwarizmi on the Hindu Art of Reckoning" gave rise to the word algorithm deriving from his name in the title as mentioned earlier. Unfortunately the Latin translation (translated into English) is known to be much changed from al-Khwarizmi's original text (of which even the title is unknown)."

BBC Science and Islam 1 - The Language of Science

Abu Ja'far Mohammed ibn-Musa al-Khwarizmi was an Arab, probably from what is now Southern Uzbekistan, who taught at the Caliph's Palace of Wisdom in Baghdad in the 9th Century, and is one the most important mathematicians in history. Through Latin translations of his work, al-Khwarizmi introduced to Europe the Hindu-Arabic base 10 numerals - the use of which came to be known as algorithm in English. He is also considered the 'inventor' of both zero and the decimal point.

Unfortunately you choose to read articles on wiki rather than history. First kilts were worn in Scotland and Ireland around 400BC if you go by statues and drawings dated back to then...

Hardly misconceptions, the Statue of Galician King.
Kilt, or plaid depending on what historical evidence you choose to follow is far older than a 16th century's modern romance with the highlands. It was firstly used as a blanket that would be tied around the waist. I guess you think folk walked about in adidas tracksuits lol

Geeez, wish some folk would read about history rather than google the crap ;)

The Kilt was dress for the lairds never for the common folk as myth would have you believe.

Can you imagine lairds up in the glens stealing cattle and needing a blanket lol

i wouldn`t tell that are Scots better then Poles. Comparison is here impossible. That, for one simple reason. In case of both- Poles and Scots, we speak of people of extraordinary quality, beauty and virtue. Their mutual loyalty to our common Sarmatian roots means a lot of to us Serbians. One can hardly say which of them, Poles or Scots, shows greater solidarity with Serbs over Kosovo. As noble Sean Connery often says: ``Kosovo is Serbia``, no matter that is for that his life threatened by Albanian mafia gangs.

Poland and Scotland! your beauty shall win over ugly people that holds you!
