jon357 73 | 22613 17 Oct 2016 / #31All these EU threads should be merged into one. This one started with trolling about Poles in the UK, probably from a Brexsh1teer but still not about the terms of leaving or remaining in the Union.
jon357 73 | 22613 17 Oct 2016 / #33I missed that one, due to the new page. The answer is 'sort of'. Above all, parliament is sovereign so will need to vote on any proposed deal. There's a good chance that the current politicians are very wisely using delaying tactics while public opinion moves away from the idea of a Brexit.
Atch 21 | 4115 17 Oct 2016 / #34couldn't Buckingham Palace technically supercede 10 Downing Street?Well, all I know is that Queenie can assert her Royal Bossiness (ie her Royal Prerogative) and act against the advice of her ministers ie the PM and the government but then when does she ever act?! Basically they can't tell her what to do but whether she can tell them what to do is another matter, not sure about that. Of course she does actually give her permission for things like when the PM asks if he can form a new government or whatever. In theory Queenie could say 'no, certainly not, you're a very naughty boy' or something along those lines but she generally says 'yes' if they catch her just before her favourite telly programme comes on and she wants to get away in a hurry. Actually I'm very fond of old Queenie.
jon357 73 | 22613 17 Oct 2016 / #35She can act against the advice of Her ministers (and has apparently done so once or twice when a former PM was very ill and when the 1974 general election was inconclusive (She chose Labour) however it's something that isn't done lightly and could spark a constitutional crisis if She did so without the support of the Privy Council and parliament (which She had on both previous occasions). Now, Prince Charles is consulted as a member of the Inner Council and neither of them are likely to go against the will of parliament.
Atch 21 | 4115 17 Oct 2016 / #36She definitely won't put a finger in the pie this time. And of course as you rightly point out Jon, the matter is further complicated by the fact Parliament is the supreme legal authority in the land. It's all very interesting and of enormous historic significance. Whatever is decided in the High Court has huge implications not just in terms of Brexit. That's why the decision will be very carefully weighed.
TicTacToe 17 Oct 2016 / #37What was the point of holding a referendum if in the end Parliament or the Lords decide the outcome.Who are they to decide.........
jon357 73 | 22613 17 Oct 2016 / #38What was the point of holding a referendumIndeed, especially since it was non-binding. A glorified opinion poll.Who are they to decide........The people we have mandated in a General Election to legislate. Duh.
mafketis 38 | 10856 17 Oct 2016 / #39The people we have mandated in a General Election to legislate. Duh.If they vote to override the decision I forsee far worse results than just leaving.
jon357 73 | 22613 17 Oct 2016 / #40Now that's part of the reason why they're waiting. Public opinion in favour of leaving has already fallen to below 50% and as the risks to standard of living etc become more apparent it will fall further.
TicTacToe 17 Oct 2016 / #41Well I will tell you what. If it does go to Parliament and MP's do vote against it and my my local MP votes no he will need 24 hr Police protection !!Get my hands on lazy Labour tw@t !
TicTacToe 17 Oct 2016 / #42So basically Jon you are saying, let's make it crap, over rule it then people won't mind !!.Oh, I don't think so !There is more to life than cheap apples from Aldi.
mafketis 38 | 10856 17 Oct 2016 / #43The thing is the only thing that can save the EU is shock therapy (like the UK actually leaving), staying in will only make its final collapse worse and messier (and possibly more violent). The EU in its current form is completely not viable and the isolated elite don't realize that yet (or do and just want to milk the cow till it collapses). The Italian referendum in December may make it all moot...
TicTacToe 17 Oct 2016 / #44If Brexit does not happen due to underhanded politics they will create a UK - EU freedom terrorist group. The EU needs to go, it's a shambles and I hate it with a vengeance.Leave was the outcome of the so called referendum and a so called hard Brexit is the only way forward.
jon357 73 | 22613 17 Oct 2016 / #45Some interesting posts there, TicTacToe. I hope for your sake (actually I don't but am just saying it) that the anti-terrorism squad don't see them, especially if something happens in your area.Great fun to see the Brexsh1teers go into meltdown when they figure it isn't going their way at all.
Crow 154 | 9177 17 Oct 2016 / #46i understand Poles. Who wouldn`t have hatred against European country/ethos, such are Anglos, that collaborate with worse Islamic league`s mujaheedines. To me, its even disgusting.
TicTacToe 17 Oct 2016 / #48No I voted, it went my way, leave !!. It is your side Remain that lost and your side who have done nothing but but moan, remoaners !!.Typical of the undemocratic left really. Most of North Yorkshire are Brexiteers and I bet all those remain voters come running back to the UK when those Russian tanks coming booming over that Polish border, very shortly.
Lyzko 42 | 9526 17 Oct 2016 / #49Most of the North was already so impovrished under Thatcher, they'd be against anything that smacks of internationalism:-) Can't blame 'em really!Cameron made lots of promises, I'm sure, which he never kept or could keep. Name me a politico who doesn't and who hasn't:-)No, the Brexiteers hopped onto a bandwagon whose coachman couldn't quite see straight if front of him, got stuck at the toll gate and now wonders if he can go it alone.Sorry, gents, it ain't that simple...it never was!!
TicTacToe 17 Oct 2016 / #50they'd be against anything that smacks of internationalism !!You do know what Brexit is don't you ?
Lyzko 42 | 9526 17 Oct 2016 / #55Thanks. Luckily, Trump as of yet hasn't a snowball's chance in hell of winning, so Hill's basically a slam dunk:-)
Bartkowiak 5 | 114 18 Oct 2016 / #56when those Russian tanks coming booming over that Polish border, very shortly.Right.
mafketis 38 | 10856 18 Oct 2016 / #57when those Russian tanks coming booming over that Polish border, very shortly. If that ever happens I can imagine Crow trying to convince people here that Poles and Russians are natural alleis and the invasion is actually a great opportunity for Serbia....
TicTacToe 18 Oct 2016 / #58Very true, and like some who believe the bad person who creates wars is Trump.
Lyzko 42 | 9526 18 Oct 2016 / #59He'll thankfully be out of the picture before too long, and so there's essentially nothing much to worry about:-)Good riddance to bad rubbish, I always say!!
NoToForeigners 6 | 948 19 Oct 2016 / #60I bet here and now you'll gonna suffer hard after the Brexit. Britain lost almost all strategic industries. How's your metal business? Lol
