I am a Manager at at Meat Plant in Ireland. We employ many foreign nationals simply because we cannot get local people to do the jobs and also because of a lack of skills. we employ Brazilian, Polish, Latvian, Slovaks, Ukranians, Lithuanians, Czechs etc because alot of them have the skills we require. Last May I went to Ukraine to interview 63 men who wanted to come and work in my factory. I went to see their skills and hand picked 12 on them to come over. They are still there and are some of the best employees we have.

Now that the good times are gone and jobs are scarce, those same Irish who left these jobs for bigger pay packets on the construction sites would like to think that these jobs are theirs by right.

Well im sticking with my Ukranian and other foreign national workers who have stood by me and who get the same rate of pay as everyone else in the factory.

The only people I have a problem with are eastern europeans, muslims and africans(not all blacks, africans). They are the groups that cause all the problems. I have no problem with yanks, central europeans, indians and chinese coming here, they integrate and immigrate in small acceptable numbers. Unlike the Poles.

What difference does it make if you speak the language. Plenty of Irish emigres during 19th Century didn't speak English either.

Just a footnote, I have absolutely no problem with Irish emigration/immigration (other than some of the reasons many of them had to do it prior to the Republic). I'm trying to show you how flawed your own remarks are.

A few years ago (before Poland joined EU) I was employed to teach English to a training course in north Poland. It was a training course for hotel staff, where young Poles were trained in a kind of 10 weeks boot camp to be hotel workers, kitchen staff, waiters and barstaff.

They then got a guaranteed year's work in Irish hotels and restaurants (with option to renew their contract). Funnily enough, they were paid less than Irish minimum wage.

Good enough for them. I dare say it was better paid than any job available in Poland at the time.

My only concern is for my fellow citizens.

So it's OK for foreigners to come and work as long as they get less than the Irish. And then you wonder why people leech?
