Is moving to UK now a good idea? - antipolish prejudice of the Brits

Sums things up nicely, the Eton multimillionare and the Colonial both have the same outlook on Britain, seperated by thousands of miles, united in a complete lack of any first hand experience of what they pontificate about............

If you want me to be honest your all kidding yourselves if you you think that the UK is not racist, there is a long history of it that goes back longer than any of us have been alive

Partially true but Britain still treats foriegners in britain better than a lot of countries do! As for the working class/man etc.... I can't think of any goverment in history that has been overly concerned about the 'average man in the street', even if they started out with good intentions 'power' becomes the ultimate aim!

MRMOM = Just stop worrying and debating, it's all irrelevant, you have a chance to broaden your horions and make a bit of money (good exchange rate at moment) grab the chance! My first teaching job was in Iraq in the middle of a war, everybody thought it would be a disaster(valid concerns on their part) guess what? had a wonderful time which I would not have missed for anything!!!! Yeah sure there were a few scary moments and I saw things that were upsetting but I did choose to go there in wartime! Life is what you make it though and overall it was a good experience.

Most people you meet will look at you not your nationality, up to you how you deal with your life here. My MR is polish and despite the economic situation has carved a life out for himself and we live in an area with very few jobs! There is some prejudice here but 99% of people are okay, if they have problems they keep it to themselves. Biggest problem he has faced has been one or two other poles and if he had been a little less niave about people he wouldn't have met those few problems! Jump in get your ticket and stop thinking so much and live your life!

MrMom, are you treated as a first class citizen here in Poland? Is there anything you would change? If Poland and Poles treat you so well, why move? What are your goals? Try addressing those questions first before you dive headlong into the murky waters of prejudice. Don't single yourself out and you'd be fine with most Brits.

BE, I've had enough of this rubbish. Small parts are racist and big parts aren't. Simple enough?

The rest of your post is good though :) :)

O.K maybe i went a bit to far in implying every part is the same but it does have alot to do with money, the poorer the area the more open the racism is but i can assure you that the more affluent areas have racism its just that its more "polite" than your average council estate.

It does have a lot to do with money, I agree. Precisely, you can wrap it up and call it sth different but the essence is the same. If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck and looks like a duck, it's probably a duck ;)

The point is to figuratively affirm what you said. I think there is still a strong element of snobbery in British culture but it exists in Poland too.

Partially true but Britain still treats foriegners in britain better than a lot of countries do!

Lets try and be honest about the reason why though, its very little to do with general good nature because i dont even remember the last time Brits acted in such a way towards themselves but i would be more than happy to bet my whole house and savings on the fact that it is to do with the numerous laws and years of political correctness than it does with an allegedly welcoming nation.

I think there is still a strong element of snobbery in British culture

I couldn't agree more, its amazing what little things can trigger it off aswell its so pathetic.

Poland has enormously benefitted from the EU and now they say they don't have the resources for foreigners? Tolerance is sustained til trespass sets in.

What ? I totally disagree Sean!

Likewise, Poles murdered thousands of Ukrainians. See a trend here?

Yes I can see that you started talking rubbish in order to make a point here, not nice really.

Um, some 800,000 were given free movement and many firms have benefitted through capital provided by the EU, I-S. This is factual, not an opinion.

Pawłokoma is for another thread, I-S

Now, I know you have some input into the thread, I-S. Care to share it?

Care to share it?

What you say aboyt 800.000 and sometimes about 2 millions - I guess it depends on the weather- given free movement it debatable as benefit. I think that is not beneficial at all, taken into account that money are worthless really and only work an resources are added value. Meaning that those people are working for somebody else benefit - their income and Poland's income is only marginal. They should work in Poland.

and many firms have benefitted through capital provided by the EU,

and many firms were sold for nothing or little enough by their competition and destroyed, others could remain in Polish hands, because they work as they use to before change of owner but capital are send to to some obscure owners ...hundreds of examples Seanus, you know the language, you could investigate a little instead you came up with thoughtless generalizations and prejudices.

This is factual, not an opinion.

phew ! I have overestimated you Sean, whats more you overestimated yourself !

Are there jobs for them in Poland?
Ironside  50 | 12493

But there aren't the jobs.

Well, I don't see it as a benefit that people emigrate in search of decent pay - its disgrace !

And if there is one Europe there is no need to talk about it as a favor for Poles as Seanus does;

Look at the population spike in Poland. A disproportionate number of people in their 20s. And the opposite in the UK. No we are one Europe and moving from (say) Rzeszow to Bristol for a job isn't that much different than moving from Rzeszow to Szczecin.

Not for long ......and what will peeps in their 40 and 50 do given crumbling retirement system in Poland

Yes, thousands do.

That's for the Polish government to address. The British government has done its part re. pensions for Polish (and other) people who pay NI there.

@Ironside, I do see what you mean. However neither you nor I can change demographic trends.

Im english and come into contact with around 100 Polish ppl a day. Iv had nothing but hostility and/or ignorance from around 80 percent! I've learnt a few basic phrases like good morning, hello ect and treat them with EXACT respect i would like in return.

To polish Ppl here i see, scraping to afford money for a english tutor, i told them it would be cheaper and LOTS easier for them to goto a local bar or cafe and make friends with an english person!! They laughed in my face.

I dont think polish ppl came here to fit in or be included.

Its a problem that is easily solved with out migrant workers, if the UK government hadn't spent all the capital that these ageing workers had built up for the country then that would have been a great start and with a small rise in the retirement age then there would be no pension crisis at all.

Again its a double edged sword, the migration of large numbers of young workers from poland is a serious problem for the polish economy in the long run. This is the real issue as their short term gains cause long term pain for both sides, poland will suffer from the skills loss whilst britain will suffer from depressed wages and high living costs.

Poland may experience an immigration problem like Britain's in a decade if young Poles leave and don't return.

British empire. I work in a massive factory canteen which runs 365 Days a year, 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week.
Apart from the office folk (which most of are English) those who work in the main factory itself are either polish or pakistan & from what i see i know they stick to thier own and are not comitted to staying in England. My mum always used to say, you dont goto work to make friends and PS I refuse to name the factory for any smart schmuck out there but i'll say it again, i see over 100 Polish ppl in the canteen in one shift and MOST will wait to be served by a fellow polish person EVEN THOUGH i am stood there waiting to serve. I am not making it up -_-

I am not surprised, considering level of hostility toward Poles in the UK ,I can easily understand them.I mean I myself often get fired up just from reading this crap about Poles and I am not even in the UK.

well I dont know that that would be that easy to be honest. i remember sitting in a pub in a very diverse area of London with some Polish, and getting very dirty looks and hostile vibes from a table of english. Mostly people would make friends at work I suppose but if as u say Polish are separated out into the crapper jobs then thats not going to happen. Look at the majority of english in Spain, they keep themselves to themselves, look down their noses at the spanish, etc, mabye to compensate for the weirdness of living in a different country. Its human nature.

Actually - the situation should resolve itself in 20-30 years time - all the leeches will be dead, and Poland will be left with a workforce that earns a lot of money while having to pay pensions for relatively few.

The real crisis is coming in the next few years - not enough people are paying not enough social taxes to fund all those lazy people on early retirement.

I think you are making things up !

Yeah right, the threadstarter comes over with some accusations that aren't true if one looks at 99% of the UK's population, yet everyone is jumping up and down trying to comfort him.

An English woman comes here and says something I heard about from numerous sources and yet the first assumption is "you must be making this up".

Simply because for many of you, Polish people can do no harm.

Ridiculous.

I wouldn't go to the UK because what jobs there are, are only fit for third-world colonials, the English will treat you like a dog with a bad case of mange and spit on you when you smile at them and the weather is ****. Oh and the people are ugly inbreeds.

I as an ENGLISH person had to work through agency in THAT factory to get my job in thier canteen (LIKE A DOG) as u so nicely say. With the uk and how it is now WE ALL have to work like dogs and be treated like ****.

Is this how the world is going? I think so! We need a ''the world is breaking'' forum lol noone is right and noone is wrong! There is nothing we can do either apart from moan about it on an internet forum :-)

Ps Plz read my forum post of i need help. That is my current situation i am going through with polish coworkers. Any advice to handle the situation would be greatly appreciated! X

your average "english" has grandparents from a wide variety of places, more so with every generation, so call us what u like but "inbreeds" is just plain ignorant.
