Why is it strange?? Natives are in their OWN country and get help from their OWN government .. the threadstarter is asking how FOREIGN Poles get money to survive?

they arent foreigners they are residents legal residents and entitled to the same as any other resident
the poles helped us during ww2 they deserve something in return and the uk can afford it
what is it to you? not your money
may i remind you that the european union exists to stop your type murdering half of europe
Where does it say it concerns EU immigrants? There is only one sentence concerning EU immigrants in supposed cuts in allowence (which one?), which make no sense given the fact they struggle with emigration from Muslim countries (as it is acknowledged in the article further). Actually what is "EU Times"? I've never heard about them.
Why would they break the rule about same "treatment" of eu migrants and its citizens if they had no influx of eu immigrants causing any problems? That makes no sense that's why I ask you about mainstream media news article.
France has loads of EU migrants, they just don't have an absurd amounts of Poles like we do.
Haven't they opened their job market for new eu members just last year?
Don't you have better source for that piece of information? I've just read very unfavourable reviews of the site. And the article is very vague for me.
I'm sure that such news concerning eu expats would hit the headlines somewhere in the mainstream.
Hi! Where the hell have you read this? It is - unfortunately - not true. Foreigners get exactly the same benefits (often without having worked a single day in France and even upon their arrival) as the French and unfortunately very often more easily; thus a strong hostile reaction from a lot of citizens. The current government is just continuing what all other governments before them did although they stopped a few weeks ago to give 300 euros per adult and 100 euros per child "accepting" to return (plane ticket paid ;)) to Rumania where the minimum salary is 158 euros(month), which was a - stupid - measure taken by Sarkozy. Roms used to take the money, to spend a few weeks in Rumania and then to return to France and so on and so on.... "lol"
(ps: I'm French so I know the situation in that country, I don't need to rely on false info transmitted by foreign media)
(ps: although am a "liberal", I believe that welfare should be given only to nationals and if to foreigners as well, only after several years of residence in the new country - this would reduce immigration ;)

To specify, who sponge French benefit system: eu immigrants or non-eu immigrants?

To straighten things out, those Romas were not entitled to any benefits, right? I'm asking you, please, to spell it out.
ToryRight: France opened its labor market to central Europe very recently but already around 300,000 Poles in the construction industry (heard last night on French tv) (the "plombier polonais" ;)) + probably as many (when registered) in cleaning (Polish women have been cleaning French homes since the 1990's), agriculture, hotels and restaurants. Although most French hate this situation, most people do not hate Poles and Poland since there are a couple million French of Polish origin (a lot of Poles came before WWII to work in the mines in North and East) and they are perfectly integrated (a lot of them are very successful).
I believe that in those times of economic hardship, labor market should be protected instead of having the UE bs... Foreigners should be accepted only if no local can do the job....
And sorry, the British government was wrong to let so many Poles in. It was a way to bring British salaries and working conditions down but who is guilty? The government are, the Poles are not.
Zetigrek! Unfortunately, like I said, anybody just arriving can and do get welfare (especially when kids). I've seen cases of for instance Bulgarian families just arriving from Bulgaria getting hotel rooms paid + money for the kids, for food, free transportation and free medical care ("CMU" couverture médicale universelle, not "sécurité sociale"). Of course, most people are fed up of this but no government shall ever do anything especially since they have their hands tied up by Brussels
Sarkozy got the - brilliant - idea to pay Roms to spend vacation in France. A family of let's say 3 kids (but of course most of them have huge "tribes") were getting each time 900 euros (600 for the parents and 300 for the kids) + plane ticket paid and doing this several times a year, they had a luxurious life in Rumania ;). Fortunately, the current government has just stopped that nonsense; Roms are expelled and leave with 0,00 euro.
To summarize it is not true what Tory says about welfare cuts in France to foreigners. 90% of the French would be happy but it shall never happen
Tory: I share your opinion 100%. Those countries were not ready but I believe they were accepted only so western companies would go there very easily because of cheap labor and thus destroying jobs in the west.

Why were they given that? What was the circumstance?
As Warszawette said, immigrants should only be given jobs if the locals can't do them.
I can tell you as a Pole, that at the beginning (2004-2007) it was advertised like that.
