Traveling out from Krakow to Slovakia for the May long weekend

Hi everyone,
I'm interested in going hiking, staying in the mountain, or enjoying a smaller city aside from the usual capitals that I visit. I will be going from Krakow, and would like recommendations for cheap destinations from here, and what buses you recommend. Please and thank you!

Stay away from Zakopane. Not only is it ***** - but there are mobs of the Tommy Hilfiger brigade at May weekend. And Slowakia is closed. Meaning - the trails open only on June15th. Some nonsense about the environment I believe - ignorance more like.....

Rabka and Babia Gora mountain are nice. Train.
Or east to the Beskid Nisky or Bieszczady and you should be alright. Here to help :)

Bieszczady

+1 Gorgeous and not too crowded. You can also sample a different kind of lamb there. Kind of gamey.

I'd strongly suggest Lublin or Zamosc. Although with that said, May long weekend will be an excellent weekend to visit Warsaw: the city always empties for long weekends.

Isn't gamey lamb more normally referred to as mutton?

When the wife and I were down there last May I had the local lamb a couple of times. It really was lamb, not mutton, which was also on the menu. The lamb wasn't as sweet as New Zealand or British lamb, but had a richer flavour. I prefer English lamb, though.

Zamość is a must, but if you can't make it, try Tarnów or Bochnia :-)

recommendations for cheap destinations

I really enjoyed Przemysl, it's an excellent place and very very cheap. I was there last summer and a large beer in the old town square was 2.99zl. Sanok is also very pleasant, but smaller, a bit more expensive and a bit more touristy.
