The Trail of the Eagles' Nests (Polish: Szlak Orlich Gniazd) of south-western Poland, is a marked trail, named after a chain of 25 medieval castles which the trail passes by, between Częstochowa and Kraków. (wiki:

I recommend everybody to see it. There is even organized race in July to which everybody can join transjura.pl

It's maybe the nicest bit of Poland, castles or not. Some of the castles are excellent, some are just bits of ruin however the scenery is nice, the area is cheap and it's very worth visiting.

When you've seen one, you've seen them all.

You trying to be funny Meathead? :) Nudge nudge.

Anyway, I've been going to castles from the womb, and jolly decent places they are too. Now if you were talking about museums and art galleries I would concur.

But castles? Cracking edifices, and still not fully respected or protected in Poland - on the Eagles' Nest Trail of course, most of the castles were "stormed" by the local population in the 18th and 19th century to build their manors and smallholdings.

The vandalism still goes on today sadly.

My experience seeing castles has been England and Greece. Maybe Poland's are different (I doubt it though).

It's not just about seeing the castles. It's about seeing a place you've never been and hiking around. That's the best part of any trip. This is how you really connect and take in the soul of a new spot.

Looks like a very enjoyable trek.
History gives more meaning , I mean I went to Wounded Knee as kid. Open, kinda rough dry grassy area near creek.. can find just like it every 5 miles in 40 mile radius. Not special to view, unless you enjoy rich or exciting history. Rushmore was large and unique but bleh . Dinosaur site ? was muy interesante.

Well I know what will be on my honey-do list if in Poland
