I'm a Boston boy, so in order to survive and thrive here, I'm gonna need my live music club fix to compensate for my loss of local Red Sox games.
Any ideas where to find small clubs (not the big joints with 200pln tix) where local bands play? There are a ton of really good bands here, but I can't find where they actually play.
Given its size, Warsaw isn't a fantastic location for live music, but there a number of places with regular shows. What type of music are you looking for?
even worse, I'm Boston-American. I love their metal, hip-hop, and alternative stuff like HappySad (I think most of their bands sound like Sublime, which is more than all right by me).
Found a place called Patrick's today near the Galleria that has good beer and live music every night at 9. Will report back.
As a Beantown native, you might be interested in catching Flogging Molly and Dropkick Murphy's, they're both in town next month. The Aktivist magazine has details. Hard Rock Cafe has regular live music, mostly American and mostly rock. Warsaw Tortilla Factory and Bradley's also both have live music.
On a side note, I'd steer clear of Patrick's, it has a dodgy reputation for scamming foreigners out of cash.
Stay very well away from Patrick's: expats have died there from having their drinks spiked.
Couldn't agree more. Unless it has changed in recent years this is not a good place to go. I wasn't aware of the spiking but I heard of a few people being roughed up badly there.
I'm sorry, I've never heard of a Polish band abroad..... and every country could say exactly the same, including France: we have very good rock bands. See ?...
What he said was stupid, not him (I don't know him well enough to say that - not yet :))
i can see how my comment came off as more insulting than funny. i apologize.
i'm not a huge fan of dance music, which is what i was referring too (the UK is the world champion of rock bands, and no one else is even close). but that's a very narrow world-view as well, and i'm coming around to the idea that while when living in Boston it makes sense to take advantage of the great live rock scene, when living in Warsaw it makes sense to take advantage of the great club music scene.
i don't want to be the American who comes here and eats McDonald's every day, so why would i do the same with music? thanks for the comments, and if you have any suggestions on what clubs are the best for a dance-music newbie to get into it, please share.
On the right night Piekarnia kicks arse and no mistake. They get some of the best DJs in the world playing there. On the wrong night however it is just plain arse.
if you are into metal/hardcore, try progresja club (check what bands play there; some nice boston hard-core groups played there)
perhaps proxima, which in general is a crappy club for techno pots, but also has some nice concerts from time to time (you just need to follow the pages)
if you like sublime, perhaps you are more into punk/ska, check the "imprezy" section in kaliforniapunk.info
Apr 30, 10, 17:27 - Thread attached on merging: Is there a live music "scene" in Warsaw?
In January, I moved to Warsaw from Glasgow, a city with a buzzing live music "scene". For most of my life I've been involved in that scene. I played in bands, promoted shows, ran a record label and DJ-ed at my own clubnight so became, over time, quite heavily involved.
My initial experience of Warsaw - which by my own admission is slight - is that while there seems to be a popular clubbing scene, other than Jazz, it doesn't have such a live music scene, with unsigned bands and solo artists promoting and playing shows and collaborating together, etc.
I think this is probably because I haven't scratched the surface just yet and I'm hoping that some of the members of this forum can help me find the small "living-room" to medium sized venues that host unsigned bands and artists or possibly even help me find like minded people to befriend and collaborate with.
If there is such a live music scene out there in Warsaw, I'm itching to discover it, so any suggestions or help would be much appreciated.
I'm a student in Warsaw. I'm looking for live music pubs in Warsaw. I discovered a place named Foksal. Is it the only place to drink and hang out or is there any other places (preferably with live music) for weekends?
