Day Trip from Kraków to Niedzica Castle/Czorsztyn Lake/Falsztyn

I'll be in Kraków this summer and would really like to travel south to my family's hometown of Falsztyn. I have never been there before but it is very close to Niedzica and Czorsztyn Lake, both of which appear to be popular tourist spots for the locals. I'd love to see the castle in Niedzica and maybe go to the lake if possible. What's the best way to get there from Kraków? I was told that the easiest way would be to take a train to Nowy Targ, and from there bus to Niedzica. Is this feasible to do as a day trip? We'd need to return to Kraków that evening.

Any insight/tips on this would be much appreciated. Thanks for your help!

I stored some info on this trip here: 1904loghouse.com/about-czorsztyn-and-the-dunajec-river-gor ge/ but I was discouraged by the public transport options and recommended friends staying in Krakow took a day tour down there. You've encouraged me to look again, which I'll do and report back if I find anything useful.

Meantime, if it were us we'd be driving from Nowy Sacz!

The best way would be to hire a car for the day, its a direct route from Krk and left at Nowy Targ. Traveling by public transport would be so time consuming, car hire is not expensive in Poland.

I agree 100%. Plus, if you want to, you can stop off and do the raft trip. Or go on to Zakopane.

That sounds like a great idea. However, I've never rented a car in Europe before. What would an American driver need to rent a vehicle in Poland?
