Poland online property ownership checker (government website)

I found this, and I think it might come in very useful for anyone looking to buy a property in Poland.

You need the so called "księga wieczysta" (property number) to access the data, but when you do, you can find out a wealth of information about the property. It contains details of previous owners, current owners, mortgage on the property, everything.

Good question. If you're buying a property, then they should give you the number without any problems, because a reluctance to do so suggests that they're up to no good.

It's worth bearing in mind that some properties don't have a KW number, but you can apply for one. As far as I know, you need the KW number to sell anyway.

For your own property, it might be on the akt notarialny, or you can get it from the Urzad Miasta for a small fee. For someone else's property, it might be possible to get if you have a valid reason to have it. I certainly obtained several in the past by merely paying the right fee and writing a letter.

The agent will have it, almost all agents demand a copy of the KW statement before they market a property.

Yep, any property or plot of land will be included as long as they have such a number.

is it possible to check if someone owns a property in Poland , through a agency ?

What safeguards are there when someone buys a house or flat (or land) in Poland? In the UK, a solicitor/lawyer or licensed conveyancer will carry out searches to see if there's anything happening locally that could concern a buyer. Does that happen in Poland?

Yes a Polish lawyer can check that or you can do it yourself - is called Ksiega Wierczysta. Will show ownership, any mortgages etc. Normally that would be attached to the notarial deed anyway.

I think some new law is being proposed regarding allowing more relaxed planning laws for Poland's family homes from next year perhaps...

It is possible that next year will be to build small houses without bureaucratic 're wasting time associated with obtaining appropriate permits . And what about the rights of property owners adjacent to the planned construction?

This topic keeps surfacing in my discussions with family and friends. How does Polish foreign ownership compare to nations such as Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and the Balkans?

I think that statistics wouldn't be very reliable, because foreigners cannot own farming land in Poland yet, but they own it through Polish intermediaries. As for apartments it's around 200 000 m^2 per year: ekonomia.rp.pl/galeria/707218,2,1108136.html

Foreigners own many companies operating in Poland.

I live in Canada moved hear with my Parents in 1964 ..They had a house and never signed it over to the People that live there now...both my Parents are deceased now..every thing in there will is now mine.....Do still own this polish property...

Do you mean if you still own this property?

Most probably not. The law of prescription allows dwellers to take over the property after 20 or 30 years if the owners don`t claim it. If those people you are talking about had lived there since 1964, they were entitled to acquire your parents` house in 1994 at latest.

Thanks for the information....I Ask this question only because at one time the current occupiers wanted to add on to the home and were told because they did not own the house they could not make additions....
