Reckless Polish Man starts wildfire in Montenegro

Only a few days after the brutal fires that consumed parts of Dalmatia, a Polish man has been detained in Montenegro for doing exactly the same thing.

A Polish citizen has been detained in Montenegro on suspicion that he started a fire that engulfed forests and reached near houses in a southern area along the Adriatic coast.

Unbelievable. The fires in Dalmatia caused the main A1 motorway to be closed, and anyone that's seen the video from Dalmatia knows just how bad those fires were. The thought of someone intentionally starting a fire after that is just unbelievable.

Authorities say that firefighters have battled the raging fire throughout the night, while the situation remains serious. They have urged local residents to cut the shrubbery on their land to help stop the fire from spreading.

Montenegro is a small country with very limited resources, and who knows what damage was done elsewhere while firefighters were tied up with this fire?

Hopefully the book gets thrown at him for this.

Why would someone do that?

It sounds an awful thing to do, given the risks.

Why would someone do that?

I have no idea. It turns out that Montenegro had dreadful fires just last month too, which means that this idiot basically inflicted more torture on them.

It sounds an awful thing to do,

Far more awful than what happened to the Polish couple in Rimini!

which means that this idiot

Very hard to see why someone would start a fire in a forest.

i think the point that other posters are making is that dreadful things are happening everywhere, but some people (and I have no desire to get into any argument here) ...some people are starting threads with the intention of a)making Polish people look bad and b) start some kind of argument. A bit like ....u know,,,, a small creature with wild hair who lives under a bridge?

A Polish man started a forest fire? well maybe he just tossed his ciggie away carelessly. **** happens, nationality is not really the issue is it?

Shall I start a thread about sexually abusive Pakistani men? or would that be 'racist'?

Shall I start a thread about sexually abusive Pakistani men?

In Poland?

I found out some more - aparently he said he was walking in the hills, got lost and started the forest fire to signal his location.

Just an example. YOu know very well why this thread was started. and it wasnt out of concern for the Balkan environment now was it?

It's news involving someone from Poland.

Quite unusual news too.

sexually abusive Pakistani men?

news involving someone from Poland

Well the Pakistani 'cultural mediator' in Italy speaking on the gang rape of a Polish woman vacationing there gave valuable insights into the mentality of the Rotherham (and many other) rape gangs in the UK. He said rape is only bad at the beginning, but then the woman relaxes and enjoys it.

I was reading about this yesterday. More about it here :-

Of course I've heard ;-)

It certainly has it's failings and most of the time I don't much like its reporting, but the above article seems a pretty good account.

Far more awful than what happened to the Polish couple in Rimini!

What happened to the Polish couple in Rimini was truly awful. An innocent couple trying to enjoy their holiday and end up being subjected to a sexual and violent assault. By all accounts the perpetrators were illegal immigrants.....

Why would someone do that?

Very hard to see why someone would start a fire in a forest.

While you are repeating things like a parrot here, the link provided by Chemikiem clearly tells why he started this fire and even uses the word "accidentally" in the headline:

Polish tourist accidentally starts a huge forest blaze in Montenegro after getting lost in the woods and lighting a fire to signal for help

As much as doing what the Polish tourist did was extremely reckless in those weather conditions, it is plain stupid to ask the questions that you have asked in its thread

why not just have one thread for misbehaving Poles in the UK and muslims struggling with European cultural norms ?

I'm sure opening the page and seeing many threads of useless and irrelevant abuse is not good for casual visitors.

Good idea.

The only reason I post half the time is to try and balance the overt negativity posted by other members.

I can only deduce that the forum owners are happy for the board to operate in this manner :(

In all fairness, the "overt negativity" has been chiefly restricted to the off-topic random chat these days, so you may choose not to read it.

Indeed, given the popularity of these subjects in recent days, a separate sub-section of the forum should be created. Both parties would be happy to do their ranting there, whereas casual visitors would simply abstain from that section.

What's negative about highlighting an issue very much in the news in Montenegro, one with a connection to Poland? It's front page news on this news website:

he wanted to signalize and mark his locations so someone would rescue him. If fire would spread even more it would endanger several local areas such as Susan, Sutomore and Zubac.

slavorum.org/lost-polish-tourist-made-fire-to-signalize-his-location-on-hill-starts-huge-fire-in-montenegro/

Still very hard to know why he would do such a reckless thing, especially when the risk of forest fires is so high.

""I am informed that a Polish mountaineer who was lost in the hill, in order to signal where he is located, he has set fire to do so and it immediately spread to a large part of the hill due to wind and dry vegetation. The situation is extremely serious." ~ said Chedenovic"

Because stupid people do stupid things.Do Poles commit crimes ? Do Poles do stupid things ? Yes but it should not be implied or inferred that this is a "Polish" problem which some members are trying to say.

A Polish man starts a fire........and ?

A Polish man starts a fire........and ?

It will be interesting to see if there's a prosecution or possible civil liabilities.

In Poland, starting a forest fire is highly illegal - the dangers of forest fires are drummed into people at a young age, and there are frequent mentions of this on state TV during the summer.

it should not be implied or inferred that this is a "Polish" problem

I don't see that at all. Remember the topic of this forum.

Yes-"The BEST guide to Poland".

I don't see how writing about what a Pole does in another part of the world helps as a guide to Poland. However, the mods clearly allow it so I will start looking for news stories too.

If I wanted to write a guide about England then adding an article about an English guy in Australia who murdered his family wouldn't really be relevant would it ?

Remember the issue of forest fires is something very significant at this time of year in Poland.

guide to Poland.

It's not only a guide - and it certainly doesn't exist to promote any viewpoint.

English guy in Australia

In a forum about Brits in Australia, that would be highly appropriate.

Well then why does the forum have a UK/Ireland section? It's not a travel guide. It's a source of news and information on Polish related matters in Poland and parts of the world where there is a Polish community.

To allow posts about Polish related matters in UK and Ireland ? doh !

Where do we have a section about the Polish community in Montenegro ?

Spiritus I had the impression that you were of at least average intelligence but you take everything so literally. Do you REALLY not understand the point? Anything related to Poland or Polish people can be legitimately posted on this forum. The fact that the forum contains sub-forums dedicated to those parts of the world where there are large Polish communities demonstrates that. That's all.

forest fires happen everywhere, especially in southern europe.
jon357  73 | 23071
1 Sep 2017 /  #28
Which is why he should have known not to start one - he was actually within sight of the town.

The locals know not to do it, and a holidaymaker from Poland (where forest fire issues are drummed into people from a young age) should also have known better.

the fire was quite small compared to Portugal (or Greece or Italy)

That's fortunate. The report linked to above was concerned it could spread to nearby towns. Doubtless the firefighters are doing their best.

Presumably there'll be a prosecution over this.
