If they give you a hard time, say: "Yes, I am Polish, but I'm homosexual just like you guys."

I'd say he should just enjoy the weed and be honest in his dealings and not worry about much. If he has a chance, try to improve their much degraded gene pool and return safely.

Its translation from Russian into English. Author who lives 10 years in Holland, his impressions about Holland and Dutch.

Trust me you don't want to live in the land of intravenous pot abuse. That's how horrible it got. There are basically trees growing out of half the populace's arms now. And the smell, ugh. Everywhere.

As Polish person you don't have a good reputation in Holland, there are too much of them. It's starting looking like UK.
Be aware, companies in Holland promise you beautiful future here, but they will use you.

Jep too much. Most of the Polish people are living in the province Limburg or in Aalsmeer (close to Schiphol) and they only do season work.

I don't have anything against Polish people. For me it's just stupid that dutch companies in Holland specific recruit Polish people for production work etc.

There are enough unemployeed dutch people in Holland who can do this job. Those companies just want Polish people because it's easier to cheat on them.

At least according to the American press, e.g. the New York Times, there's much more anti-Islam sentiment in the Netherlands, than anti-Polish:-)

100% true.
Polish people will be accepted. You need to proof that you are not one of the stereotypes.

Proving is alot easier said than done. Stereotypes cut both ways:-)

I recall a Dutchman traveling to Poland for a visit in the capital city and being asked why "all Dutch people are soccer hooligans"!! He tried to show that this is as idiotic as saying all Poles are lazy, slow-witted drunks who sponge off of the state. Bigotry only begets bigotry.

If i don't get banned, I would say that i didn't like Europe. too much racism, hate and problems. I am from extremely multicultural Asia.

I have been in Poland for more then a year now and i have to say that Poland is going through a disaster but Poles in the short term Poles won't sense it.

Every Pole has his own sad stories and complains to tell you even though if he has not packed his stuff yet. I think the whole problem is the GOVERNMENT! soviet era, old mentality politicians who don't have any idea what they are doing or what should they do. There is no hope unless there are fresh, different and new thinkers in the government. When ever a Pole leaves the country the one who gets most excited is the Politicians, there won't be any protests, we can continue ruling the country peaceful without any problem. I have lots of example to give you about the failures of the government but i think here is not the right place, I will start a new thread about it when i get time.

Yeah, you are right about not sensing the disaster short term.
IMO the worst thing about the crisis is that the gov has no clever general plan to revive economy esp. the production of innovative systems - or I just cannot find information.

Why should it be unimaginable for a Polish cluster to produce something everybody wants?? Yes, I think that Poles should start "doing it too" - create pruducts that are highly competitive BUT cheep credits are clue!!!

But back to the original question - Holland is not antipolish. They still remember who they owe to.

no they like most of western Europe get so used to live in the artificial dome created for the benefit of the cold war that they are disturbed by anything that would bring them to their senses and stark reality.

Dutch companies look for Polish workers because they do work that Dutch people don't want to do.
And yes, there are some (recruiting) companies cheating Polish people, we hear of them on the news on tv or in the newspaper.
Companies threating Polish workers well are not on tv, it's not such an interesting news item....

"Dutch companies look for Polish workers because they do work that Dutch people don't want to do." - there is no work which people don't want to do. There is only too low salary.

Is that why Poland is needing to import workers from Ukraine?

They are a bit against the polish, but nobody really whines about it, they are to ***** to say something. And most people are decent :)

If a Pole moves to Holland, somehow finds a job in an industry not threatening to Dutch citizens, above all, LEARNS THE LANGUAGE (and I don't mean English necessarily!), later on becomes a tex-paying contributor to society, I can't see the problem. Sure, all small countries want to maintain their cultural status quo, what else is new, right? Seriously, when someone ups and establishes illegal residence somewhere, doesn't pay taxes, doesn't learn the language fluently and then sponges off the state, get real, what can they possibly expect???

Hardly any, if the Dutch admiration and respect of Poles who fought there in WW2 is anything to go by. In 2006 the Dutch Queen herself bestowed Honours and Awards upon General Sosabowski and the Polish Para. Brigade. As with all immigrants, if you fit in, learn the language quickly, make friends with the locals, don't criticise your hosts, and try to be more Dutch than the Dutch themselves, you should be ok. Good luck mate!

Positive. As I said, if the admiration the Dutch show towards the Poles who fought for their liberation is anything to go by, he'll be ok, provided as well that the OP makes sure he fits in etc. I'm sure your dad, like mine, did all these things and blended in perfectly in Australia. Perhaps some of the Poles of today who emigrate would do well to learn from what the post-WW2 émigré Poles did and didn't do in their host nations when they first arrived.

Is Poland anti-Dutch? Really a mirror image of the same question. Yes/No! I repeat, if scores of underskilled Dutchmen descended en masse right to the middle of Warsaw, say, with no Polish skills, criminal backgrounds and a reputation for tax dodging, how would the Poles react?

The entire issue's really more human than it is endemic to one particular group being somehow more disposed towards racism or bigotry than another:-)
