Poland has become one of the biggest producers of marijuana in Europe - claims the weekly Przekroj.
Last year, 860 kilograms of the narcotic drug were seized by the police, twice as much as in 2008 and four times more than in 2005. Several dozen illegal plantations were liquidated last year.
That is surprising. Are those indoor or outdoor operations? They call them plantations, which would indicate fields, then 'under one roof' would indicate indoor. My grandma used to grow konopie, for rope. LOL At the and plk123 post, google put an add for marijuana rehab!
Why is it that any time a superlative appears in relation to Poland it is a cause for celebration? Without regard to what that superlative is actually referring to. Is it really important that poland is the biggest producer of pot? In fact, it tells me sth about the people.
Some of the absurd claims Ive heard since I've been here: Gdynia has THE BEST aquarium in Europe - Wrong, its crap Sopopt prokom trefl are THE BEST basketball team in the world - Wrong
And the ones which are true such as the molo in Sopot being THE LONGEST in Europe, are nothing to really brag about.
Btw. nice to meet a welshguy on polish forum at last! I was always wondering why there are so many Scots, Irish, English here... but not even a bit of Welsh! Where the all Welsh ppl have been? ;)

I am suggesting that its false of course. Most people in the world understand that the Americans are the greatest basketball players in the world, but htere are some in this country who still insist that sopot prokom can beat any american team.
As for the aquarium thing, on my very first visit to poland everyone was telling me that i just had to see gdynia aquarium as it is one of the best in Europe if not thwe world. Bear in mind that i come form a country of sea life centres etc. So I went and it was one of the worst aquariums ive ever seen

There are not serious, they are just patriotic ;) I think u are the only one person who didn't get it

Never heard about Gdynia's aquarium. I found out about this place by accident this year when I was passing near by but I didnt go inside because the tickets were in the price of pizza and I was hungry. ;)

Oh i get it, these guys had a conviction that they were the greatest. I sometimes **** about and say that wales has the greatest rugby team in the world, its just banter cos I know we havent. These guys seriously believe they can beat the americans

You have weird friends...
wales has the greatest rugby team in the world
arent they? Well maybe not greatest but... Wales is strongly associate with rugby by Poles. They tried to be nice telling u they think u have a good rugby team, I wouldn't be offended in ur shoes ;)
Palikot politicians plan to submit a draft to depenalise marijuana use, TVN24 is reporting. “Plant, smoke, legalise – that slogan remains on our lips,” said RPP spox Andrzej Rozenek. “Our group’s goal is legalisation of smoking marijuana and the first step is to depenalise possession of amounts for one’s own use.” They argued that one million Poles smoke pot once a week, and it can be bought in any school during recess. It should therefore be legalized. Then not gangsters but the state will have revenues like from alcohol and tobacco. We will find progressive MPS in the SLD, PO and PSL who will back it. Only in PiS won’t there be any advocates. Wanda Nowicka said: “Marijuana is less harmful than alcohol and cigarettes…”
One million Poles smoke pot once a week? 1/38th of the population?? I'd doubt that for starters. It's not the kind of thing you can statistically verify with any degree of accuracy.
It can be bought in any school during recess? That's funny, I thought it was illegal ;) Doesn't say much for the policing here.
They are wheeling out an age-old debate here. Nothing new. I wouldn't mind if pot was decriminalised here. Some Poles need to relax a bit more.
Good points, Jon. I have certain stock phrases and one of them is 'we are born to experience'. That means taking drugs IMHO. Although I haven't done any drug beyond the legal ones for quite some time, it doesn't change the fact that I took sth from what I did before. I see the merit in them.
Make love, not war! Take drugs (soft ones), not lives ;)
I neither want to be overly prescriptive nor proscriptive (certainly not!). However, give people choices as education plies them with the tools needed to make an informed choice (or should at any rate). If I chose to seek out pot tonight, I'd know exactly what I'd be getting myself in for.
Pot is a lot safer, albeit not 100% free of adverse consequences, than tobacco for sure. It would be great if Poland adopted a posture similar to Holland's regarding marijuanna.
That'd be great, I hope it's legalised and that it's sold in shops where instead of gettin what your dealer gives you you can have a pick of different strands of the 'erb.
From a medical point of view there are mental health issues to be considered, but legalization would allow for better treatment and help. As far as consumption, eating or vaporizing marijuana is virtually free of any adverse health effects.
As far as mental health goes it's really a Chicken-and-the-Egg scenario about whether people who are crazy tend to abuse marijuana, or whether marijuana abuse causes mental health problems. A combination of genes and environment is probably the answer but obviously more research still needs to be done.

A lot of these arguments have to do with the nanny state or non-nanny state. Should the state impose speed limits, traffic lights and non-parking zones and force people to use seat belts? Many Poles have a copycat mentality and say if there are no speed limtis on German Autobahns, then why.....?
Of course, arguments can be found for and against this and most every other issue. But whenm all is said and done, only AMerica has true democracy. Citizens are able to decide whether to spend more or less on local schools (millage votes, as they're called), and there are dry towns (no alcohol available), because a majority support the dryness. Any souse who can't deal with that is free to move. And in what other country are judges, sheriffs and many other public officials popularly elected? Europe, hang your head in shame!
Pol3, you are not up to speed with changes in road regulations. Poles can drive faster now and that's exactly what the police want. More money for the govt through fines.
Oh yes, the Patriot Act is the most democratic of statutes. Much more democratic than the Polish Constitution, LOL.
America and the free world are at war with terrorism. Your beloved Churchill, who loudly lauded democracy, also favoured restricting civil liberties during times of war.
Your beloved Churchill, who loudly lauded democracy
He wasn't beloved (he lost by a landslide in the '45 election) and he wasn't a great believer in democracy; he saw it as the best of a bad bunch of options.
He also said that America could always be relied on to do the right thing. After exhausting every other possibility. Churchill was also an alcoholic and chronic cigar smoker. Perhaps if powerful warriors chilled out with a spliff now and again, the world would be a calmer place.
Wanda Nowicka said: “Marijuana is less harmful than alcohol and cigarettes…” Do you agree with this line of reasoning?
For me the only point of legalizing pot is to prevent or stop Drug Dealers. In the The Netherlands where pot is legal or in Switzerland Zurich there is less criminality liked to drug dealing than in the UK, US, France Germany etc
However what is scary now in the Euro zone is that because of the drop of the US dollar $ versus the € euro, some people are buying hard drugs like cocaine or heroin because the prices dropped.
In Poland i don't know what the situation is regarding to soft or hard drugs and where people buy them , all i can see are some drunkards everywhere on the streets day and night and without doubt alcool addiction is a real pest in Poland.
Pol3, I really think you suck up what FOX news tells you. Sean Hannity is evil. Palikot is merely branching out debates here in Poland. He is not brainwashing like FOX try to do.
Then why the FOX pet lines about the War on Terror? I'd much rather people smoke pot in the privacy of their own homes as consenting adults than have people killed, beheaded and mutilated to serve the agenda of greed.

Pol3 just can't see it. The fact is that the Taliban had become awkward and were a convenient pretext. I'd love to see Pol3 tell Nick Berg that the war is a just one. Or that other prisoner whose name eludes me.
