it is not worth while me visiting all of Poland all of the time to keep up with the latest trends

Err, the collapse of Communism and the ensuing socio-economic changes were more than just a trend.
Also you didnt need to visit Poland to see this as I believe it was mentioned on the news at the time.

I regret that my fellow countrymen are so ignorant about Poland , but you have to remember that we have had a lot of years of anti comunist propaganda in the UK...We were told over and over what terrible people were on the other side of the Berlin wall , what terrible lives they had , how lucky we were to be born in a free country....A lot of us believed it....When i was a soldier i stood on the Berlin wall and never in a million years did i ever imagine that one day i would live on the other side of that wall...Don,t be insulted when people say such things , just try to educate them , invite them to Poland , they will love it as much as i , and all my friends from the Uk that have visited me do.....The most common question i get is....Poland...where is it exactly....???

The collapse of Communism as seen in Berlin with the collapse of the Berlin Wall was really the main feature of the last days of communism in Eastern Europe not so much Warsaw and the Poles.

You're right, the two are unrelated.

You have Televisions in Poland? Where do you plug them in? Do they run on coal? Are you allowed to watch just anything on TV or is it only programes from your capitol city Moscow that you can watch?

Obviously the above was a joke but,to turn this around a little. What is the stupidest thing youve heard about the UK from people in Poland ?

Does everyone in Poland live in flats?
I heard not so long ago.

If they drive on the wrong side, what side is their steering wheels on?

If you do have a car with the driver's seat on the other side to everyone else,
get a large dog (Owczarek Podhalanski, for example) to sit by your side on the passenger seat.
Then try to make it look as if you are not the one doing the driving.

A question asked by an American woman at a sight of two Polish construction workers (working on her house) reading a Polish newspaper during lunch break:

can they really read?

A question by a Texan woman at the sound of my accent:
Do all Poles speak with British accent?

Years ago i found myself in NZ. The only accents they knew were Asian, French and Russian from Bond movies – I apparently sounded lovely so they assumed I was French

– So how do you say that in French? - Stranger asked
– I don’t know I’m not French
– So what are you - he asked arrogantly
- I am from Monaco – finally!!! Satisfied walk away
What I detest about some people is that they think, it is the right to ask, as someone have said to me “we need to know where you people come from” and when you tell them, they make some stupid comment , but what do you expect.

Another good one from NZ - year 1986 -and I’m not kidding.
I mentioned rock group U2
– U what they laughed
-They are popular in Poland - I humbly replied
- it mustn’t be any good if it’s popular in Poland

I really don't know what to say :)..On the one hand I'd be surprised (or -in some cases-maybe even feel somehow offended) if somebody asked me a question concerning such things as electricity or having cars , which exist almost everywhere ( I'm not saying that they are distributed over the whole area of a given country though) and are essential for survival in those places where WINTER exists...But on the other hand, it's a little bit stupid to feel offended by either stupid questions or stupid remarks if they suggest that you live in some Third World country..What's so offending in that? The 3rd World countries are inhabited by people as well, why should we feel insulted if sb seems to compare us to them because of thir ignorance? The truth is ,that we offend those poor people by feeling insulted by such remarks. I didn't use to go to school regularly ;P, but I'm not only able to point most countries on the map without a deeper thought , but also to guess at least the continent where some less "known" countries are situated. Such ability isn't anything requiring long hours spent before a map and I'm still wondering why some countries don't pay enough attention to geography lessons..The knowledge of geography is essential to understanding what is happening in politics, which has an impact on us all, right? All in all, ignorants are everywhere, which sometimes leads to hilarious situations..and life would be boring without them :P.

ps. it's not stupid, but I will post it.some americans i met last year kept on asking me about polka...they couldn't believe that there are no bunches of polka bands in every Polish city ..It took me some time to explain them ,that we're not polka-lovers in here. A friend of mine was "acussed" of pretending to be a Pole as he didn't have a moustache :) well, I haven't got it either, should I check my family roots or simply grow it? aaa- sorry for the length of my post- I'm a master of writing long posts full of truisms :)

Do Polish people have big noses?

This is why the Polish people are picked on!
Crow  154 | 9250

Wait, if there is something in connection between noses and `zmija`, Poles could easely `pick`those who picking them.

BDW, do you know for Latin proverb: `Bonus penis, pax in domus`? [think that translation isn`t necesery].

Now, gues how come to this proverb? It was collected and translated on Latin during antic Roman expeditions (in pagan times) close to Odra River (today`s Poland).
