Multi culti is incredibly boring. You have these conservative cultures in your place. In Poland I want to see beautiful slavic faces, red cheeks, kielbasa, vodka, normal things.I don't want to see burkhas, smell curry and stinky kebab all over.

I remember when CR was completely czech how nice it was.You could smell goulash everywhere. Each pub had the local beer. There were no outside cafes.Total czech experience. And now you see the damage caused by the barbar invasion, almost no Czechs in the centre.

Come Friday night, the only people fighting in kebab shops, throwing up outside pubs, sitting crying on the kerb and more were white Brits.

you talk about London?

I don't know what you mean by "flooded" - sounds deliberately racist to me.

I'm from the UK, my home city is one of the most multicultural places in Europe.

Communism kept these states pure and emphasized the national identity. These places had a very distinct local flavour which tends to vanish by invasion of consumerism.

More unproven statements....

Perhaps you could cite an official source for that?

Communism kept these states pure and emphasized the national identity.

Your lack of understanding is uncontested.
Communism tried to destroy traditional national identity, that was part of the program.
And I am sure that you would have some difficulty trying to pursued Polish people that communism is a good thing.
You should come to Poland, you might actually learn something, if that is possible.

So come on, what do you mean by

flooded

It is a meaningless term.

Your lack of understanding is uncontested.

I also fear he has no idea about the shuffling of millions of peoples from their home towns across the communist empire...
We see this policy bearing bad fruits today in the Baltics and even in the Ukraine.
What about those whole peoples send to Siberia?

There was only communists or "enemies of the people"...no national identity whatsoever.

Communism tried to destroy traditional national identity,

The opposite exactly.EU tries to destroy national identity. They give directives for that.It is supposed to suppress free movement etc.Communists brought back old fests, habits, folklore cinema, theatre etc.

Communists brought back old fests, habits, folklore cinema, theatre etc.

???

You mean everything what was not seen as bourgeous and "decadent"? Meaning nearly everything traditional...because a new world was to be build, who needs folklore for that!

Southern, you really have no idea!

Why then everyone says that east Berlin resembles much more Reich Germany than west Berlin? Why did they keep so large parts of architecture untouched?(the same in Poland).

There was only communists or enemies of the people...no national identity whatsoever.

I thought before that this might make for an interesting thread.
I see Poland now trying to return to some of the pre-communist traditions, Religion etc... because of what communism tried (unsuccessfully) to destroy.
I think it is interesting for people to better understand certain aspects of Poland.

You know BB, it is very difficult for anyone not born in communism to understand it at all. I have been discussing it for years and it still makes no sense whatsoever to me.

The opposite exactly.

Should we take that "Are you an idiot vote" now?

Why then everyone says that east Berlin resembles much more Reich Germany than west Berlin?

Because West Berlin got rebuild much more in the old tradition, as it once was.
East-Berlin got to be re-build as a stalinist vision, and that was not much different than Hitler's vision of Germania....hence the similiarity..

A new people, a new world order needed a new art, everything had to be new...you know? Communist art...what crap!

From an architectural point of view it was an abomination too.
Vilnius is very similar to Krakow with regards to architecture but the commies destroyed some of the beauty and stuck in the austere communist blocks, out with the old, in with the new! terrible.

East-Berlin got to be re-build as a stalinist vision

Well, in downtown that were the main roads only if I recall correctly, right? I still remember the bullet holes (dating back to WW2) in the old buildings in the smaller side streets of East Berlin.

During communism, where could a typical "man off the street" travel to?
I mean could he go to other communist countries for holidays?

In Lithuania when they were part of the U.S.S.R, they needed written permission for a city person to go to the country and visa-versa in their own country!

I have been told that Poles had to apply for a passport but you had to know who to bribe even with that not many people traveled due to the restrictions and certainly not outside of the communist countries.

Yes. AFAIK, only the travel to Hungary had some restrictions because its border wasn't considered "safe" and because too many tourists from western Europe also visited the country.

I mean could he go to other communist countries for holidays?

You needed permission and the foreign currency...not everybody got that because the GDR never had enough of it for itself. Just packing your bag and going was not possible.

Travels to other eastern countries were even often given as reward for clean "best worker", people who were politically firm on line....it was that valuable.

But the other communist countries were at least reachable, the West was a no go (for East Germans that is).

the West was a no go

I never thought that would change growing up.
I am very glad it did, they were terrifying times especially with the possibility of nuclear annihilation. I watched a shocking documentary Threads recently.

I don't think any good can come from a segregated bipolar world.

Yes,barbarian.Everyone non greek is a barbarian as our forefathers said.

Ridiculous. As always...

Seems like a very spirited voting, with "Yes for all except Muslims" taking the lead by 3 votes against its closest rival options!

Does seem like muslims are getting on some nerves! ... Muslims could sure try and do better! There are other foreighners who are more comfortable in Poland (not to mention that Muslims will come up with morality, and there are communities with very high values and morality present in Europe, who are not muslims ... I guess muslims need to investigate themselves, and question their way of life).

There will be more muslims taking over Poland if there were no visas to the US anymore. The Poles will all leave and muslims will move in and take over Poland.

If only the Poles didn't think that grass is greener on the other side and make something out of their own country. But no, they have to go to UK, Canada or US in this mystical belief that money grows on trees.
