The Glory of Poland, NYT 12th April 2010

Poland should shame every nation that believes peace and reconciliation are impossible, every state that believes the sacrifice of new generations is needed to avenge the grievances of history.

It is this Poland that is now at peace with its neighbors and stable. It is this Poland that has joined Germany in the European Union. It is this Poland that has just seen the very symbols of its tumultuous history (including the Gdansk dock worker Anna Walentynowicz and former president-in-exile Ryszard Kaczorowski) go down in a Soviet-made jet and responded with dignity, according to the rule of law.

So do not tell me that cruel history cannot be overcome. Do not tell me that Israelis and Palestinians can never make peace. Do not tell me that the people in the streets of Bangkok and Bishkek and Tehran dream in vain of freedom and democracy. Do not tell me that lies can stand forever.

Ask the Poles. They know.

Exactly! It took Americans and others a while to question 9/11. Many were quick off the mark here to point the finger of blame. There can never be true trust that way.

I know the jet was Russian-made, but in this context...

Agreed (though I never did buy the '9-11 Party-Line')

I'm just curious. Which conspiracy theory about 9/11 do you subscribe to?

and responded with dignity

That is by no means certain. We're already seeing elements of society spew their nonsense, and society hasn't had a chance for grief to turn to anger. Maybe after the Presidential election, we'll know if Poland really has made amends - but unfortunately, I don't believe that Poland and Russia are headed towards the same kind of relationship that Poland and Germany have today.

This is a no-brainer, and it explains everything.

The one I DON'T subscribe to is the 'official version' a la the 9/11 Omission Report.

What would the impression of THIS tragedy be if there was no plane wreckage... ?

I've lost someone close in Katyn in 1940, now also lost someone - many important compatriots - and I'm ready to say I'm sorry YOU, as the Polish citizen

We survived the attacks of 11/09, it was a terrible tragedy, I thought that nothing terrible can no longer happen, I was 15 years old, now I have time for something as terrible killed my countrymen, whom I knew from the front pages of newspapers and television - to So far, I can not understand what happened, it's like a bad dream, stupid joke. I feel like a piece of me died, still makes me want to cry. Someone predicted that the world will end in 2012, for me was the end of the world 10/04/2010
