Exorcist monthly goes on sale in Poland

The Exorcist (Egzorcysta) is a one-of-a-kind magazine in Poland, and it aims to reach readers who frequent fortune-tellers and are open to New Age spirituality.

"We are living in a time that is a veritable tornado of occultism, esotericism, divination, magic, energy healing and many other phenomena that suck people in," reflects chief editor Artur Winiarczyk.

The monthly, which counts noted clerygmen among its contributors including exorcist Father Andrzej Grefkowicz and Jesuit priest and demonologist Father Aleksander Posacki, hopes to steer readers onto the right path.

Catholic journalist Grzegorz Gorny told Polish Radio that not very many people are aware of the dangers that may lie behind the various kinds of therapy or relaxation methods that swamp the market today.

The Exorcist will also include articles on issues that will help typical Polish families.

I wonder what that would be.
Doesn't the RC Church understand that competition is good in the long run. It will mean a slimmer, slicker business. Look at the U.S., where entrepreneurial pastors have had to learn to be more persuasive and offer more for consumers' money. The superstition business is thriving; RC Church should get real or move into other markets.

It is rather amusing when you hear people say "oh, I'm Catholic", then they go on to believe in fortune tellers, black magic, etc. One cannot possibly be a Catholic and believe in this stuff without - well -committing some pretty major sins.

I did read one woman online who was breaking eggs over her baby's head to protect him - then she went on to talk about going to church.

Incredible! I actually agree with you on thsi point. I have found that even some educated Catholics in Poland are unaware that beign involved in astrology, tarot, the occult, etc. is contrary to their faith. May this new mag will enlighten some of them.

I hope so too - it is simply utterly and completely contradictory to Catholicism to believe in that stuff. I would go so far as saying that it transcends educational levels - it's certainly not the poor in villages that are paying for expensive phone calls into those programmes about this stuff!

I'm surprised that there aren't more warnings in churches about this stuff - it's an issue that they should perhaps take more seriously.

Hey, waht about the dumb hippies who turned theri backs on Christianity and readily embraced all kinds of fake gurus and maharajahs ripping them off. Or gap-toothed Madumma with her Kaballah, or the celebs pushign their rip-off Scientology...

It must be comforting to know that you are the possessor of the one truth. There are fundamentalists in Karachi, Kabul and Riyadh who feel just the same as you.

Some go to the church, other "seek help" in a "private practice" ... :S. Both are questionable, I think.

Faith, true faith demeans no one, it recognizes the ligitemacy of free thought and acceptance.
Once you cross the line to censoring those who don't believe like you; figureatively or literally your belief system shows it's to be just another form of mind control.

That much they haven't. No religion has yet proved itself. I would be very happy to see that happen and don't mind whether it's Islam, Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Animism, Voodoo, Graeco-Roman religion, Scientology, Christian Science, Zoroastrianism or Wicca, Satanism I'll pass on.

This has always worked for me.

That makes a lot of sense - live a good life and if there is something in religions (which is frankly unlikely) that's only a plus.
