Demonstrations in Poland in defence of democracy.

Polish government removed EU flag from the room- info center, where Polish officials communicate with journalists and public. It was last year, at the end of November. In December started demonstrations in defense of democracy organized by some opposition in Poland.

Just for the record.

cut Poland's funding

One can see you've got Poland's best interests at heart. Who's got such "friends" needs no enemies!

Inpolska "Hopefully, the EU will cut Poland's funding and we'll see how the Polish government shall react ;"

Maybe the EU will also send in an invading force to make sure that we tow the line, that would be nothing new to us would it.

The Polish people make a democratic choice and the foreigners do not like it they try and use all of their power to change our democratic choice.

No problem Inpolska you can have my house and all of my money, as was taken from my parents before me, but you will never take my polish heart and spirit.

PIS has already lost

If only post-nomenklatura/SB collaborator/bankster types could vote, PiS would surely lose. But the govt is moving ahead. Just now they are working so poverty alone cannot be grounds for taking kids from their parents and putting them in foster care. It's a race against time to fix up the PO legislation rejected by the TK. "Holier-than-thou" PO broke the law by ignoring those binding rulings for fear that would detract from their all-out election-campaign effort. Within 6 months, during which PiS intend to enact their main legislative projects, Poles will finally find thermselves in a people-friendly Poland, and their re-election will be a foregone conclusion. The Petrus, POs and KODs can go f*** themselves!

I doubt that will happen unless they continue to behave as badly as they are now; even Orban's Hungary are still getting the cash. Any sanctions will be milder at first. After all, the EU a very aware that the current anti-Polish PiS regime don't reflect the will of the majority of the voters and that most Polish citizens are normal and committed to the EU (as evidenced by the approval ratings for the EU being particularly high in Poland).

They didn't ignore any rulings. They simply didn't implement the laws which the TK ruled to be unconstitutional, which is perfectly valid in Polish law.

Within 6 months, during which PiS intend to enact their main legislative projects

No, Polonius. PiS said 100 days - and yet none of the main promises have been kept.

The Petrus, POs and KODs can go f*** themselves!

Beautiful. It shows the real attitude behind PiS supporters - vulgar, abusive and entirely PiSed up.

In fact every decision that they've made (that people know about; God knows what horrors they've burbled about among themselves in secret) has been a mistake.

Hence the strength and popular support for the Polish pro-democracy movement. I can't think of any other country where thousands of people have come out on the streets to shout "go" so soon after the election. Basically they have done nothing right, everything wrong and people are horrified at whatever insult to the country and the people that PiS will come out with next.

I must admit that I am not following all the mess: no time and also am not interested. However, these days, there is a lot of negative coverage re Poland in all world medias. I read and medias from several countries, in English and in French, and all this does not look "good"....

I have not followed the socalled 500 ZL per kid stuff and don't know what criteria are to get said money and a Pole today told me that at the current time, it's just "blabla" and nothing has been done.

I have read that people aged 75 and older will have their prescribed drugs for free and if so, I will be in favor of such a measure. The current situation is unacceptable when the elderly cannot afford to buy their medication.

Should the present government implement social measures to help the poorest and weakest, great!

However, their attitude concerning the threat to democracy may be very dangerous for the whole country and that is what foreign media cover...

It would be fatal EU`s mistake. Similar to the decision to sanction Russia.

If come to it and if that harm Polish economy, Poland would turn to other global centers of power for new financial arrangements- China, India, Russia, Brazil,.. Then, it would just accelerate Poland`s path to Intermarium, same way as being under pressure of EU, Hungary and Serbia together entered in great projects financed by China- new fast train corridor from Budapest to Belgrade.

So no, EU would do its best to isolate Poland politically and then to initiate maiden in Poland.

The bank tax even though not officially sworn in is already seeing a blanket increase in baking charges and of course loan repayment margins. The retail sales tax (was to be supermarket tax but now will include almost anything being sold to individuals, full details next week) is going to have a similar effect - higher prices. That in itself gives a one off boost to inflation but doesnt help the lower income class that they are supposedly defending. Tomorrow morning we will get details on the swiss franc loan conversion scheme. Again all savers and loan holders will be made to subsidise poor decisions made by those who took out swiss franc loans. The best you can say is they mean well but dont have a good idea about how to make real improvements that their manifesto pointed to.

Stop dreaming, Crow! You don't live in Poland and you don't live in any of the other EU country! I have around me several Russians or foreigners very close to Russia and the situation is not as bright as you believe. Russian economy has been dramatically hit by the low price of oïl and by western sanctions. The rubble is worth now nothing; Russia does not manufacture anything and has to import everything to be paid in dollars and as a result most Russians are poorer and cannot make it. Putin is still around because he is clever and knows how to exploit Russians's nationalism so people do not revolt.

As to other developping countries you mention, China, Brazil, India, they are having severe crisis. Inspite of all of problems, the EU and the USA re the richest areas, which Poland knows and that's why Poland will never leave the EU (the European soup is too good ;)). As Americans say "money talks and baloney walks"...

PS: if the EU is so .... bad, why does for instance Serbia want to be a member?????? ;);)

PiS have already said they don't give a damn what EU does. They're going to proceed with their plan and continue the changes regardless of what some bureaucrats may think.

BTW, how can a democratically elected government "violate democratic norms"? They didn't come into power via a coup. They were elected by majority the population. Sure, they got over 50% of the parliament seats mainly because leftist parties decided to act like retards and screwed themselves up in magnificent way.

Still, anything that happens now in Poland is what usually happens when there's a change of power. The only reason why there's so much screaming in European Commission about it now, is that the previous gov was doing what Germany wanted them to do and the new one has balls to go against German interests. It's a matter of Berlin using its Brussels proxies to protect Germany's influence over Poland.

Poland was always very pro-EU country, so I think EC rationale is to make a fuss to try to convince us Poles to start demanding reversal of this course internally. Unfortunately for them, the poor sods in EC didn't notice that times have changed, especially after how Merkel exacerbated migrant crisis and then tried to shove dindus down other countries throats.

great projects financed by China- new fast train corridor from Budapest to Belgrade.

China is moving from a manufacturing export based economy to an internally driven consumer and service based economy. The last decade they have bought vast quantities of raw materials with which to build cities for the their people. They financed this by selling cheap products to the rest of the world. Now that they are done building, they are going to grow internally. It will take time, but thats their goal. So if you want a railway to China, you are going to have to build it yourself.

@Kondzior: like Americans say 'money talks" (and "baloney walks' ;)): because Poland was scarred to lose some EU's money, they have accepted to take in 7,000 migrants (first 100 of them to arrive in late March 2016). It is not very hard for the EU to "straighten" Poland up since Poland says "amen" whenever the EU threatens to hit the pocketbook

Bishop Pieronek said a few funny lines about PiS in "Rzeczpospolita" interview:

W średniowieczu powstrzymywano się od wyrokowania w nocy. Noc uznawano za czas szatana. Judasz wyszedł wydać Chrystusa nocą.

In middle ages nocturnal verdicts were avoided. Night was believed to be Satan's time. Judas walked out at night to betray Christ.

But to be fair, I'd rather have Church hierarchs not make political statements at all.

So if you want a railway to China, you are going to have to build it yourself.

The Chinese also have a saying: "If you want to get rich, build roads."
Polonius3  980 | 12275

nocturnal verdicts

But the nomenklatura/SB collaborator crowd in Nocna Zmiana (the 1992 parliamentary coup by Wałęsa, Kwaśniewski, Tusk, Kuroń, Pawlak et al) also took place at night.

Only goes to show that people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones!

Night was believed to be Satan's time.

When a party that huffs and puffs about 'religious values' loses the support of the Church (as well as being responsible for the tens of thousands of people who turn out for the Polish pro-democracy rallies) it's a sign that the endgame has started.

for the Polish pro-bankster/nomenklatura rallies

The endgame for PO and similar supporters of the entiteld cliques started on 25th October. The novetly of street brouhaha will soon wear off. The pro-oligarch faction will sporadically still huff and puff, chant and rant, but that will not affect PiS' good changes. One can expect 8, maybe 12 straight years of PiS' pro-Polish rule. Poland will emerge from it all as a country serving the entire nation, not just its undeservedly privileged elite.

PiS' good changes

There haven't been any, only mistakes and political gaffes. Doubt they'll last the whole term but if they do there isn't a cat in hell's chance of them being re-elected.

It takes a lot to get Polish people from all ages and all walks of life out on the streets to attend a pro-democracy rally, but they've managed it and from the little that PiS dare give away about their plans, it looks like the protests will keep on occurring.

Unless they try to ban free speech and the right of assembly, which doubtless they would if they could...

That's what EU version of Democracy looks like.
jon357  73 | 23224

That makes no sense and is simply untrue.

It's fun to demolish the rubbish you come out with point by point, so let's go:

Free speech. This is not curtailed by the European Union in any way at all. Can you give any examples of the EU restricting free speech in Poland? PiS politicians however have attacked it constantly, especially showing their contempt for an independent media.

Right of Assembly. This is also not curtailed by the European Union in any way. LK as President of Warsaw however was known for banning marches that he disagreed with.

Hence the significance of the Polish pro-democracy rallies. People cherish the right of assembly and the right of free speech that PiS are showing so much contempt for.

is not curtailed

Bollocks!!! Then what was that Arab-rape episode over New Year's all about, when PC-obsessed police and media failed to rerport it becuase it might make migrants look bad. The PC dictatorship are the gretaest enemy of free speech and use various terms (sexism, intolerance, homophobia, hate speech, xenphobia, racism) as pretexts to muzzle free expression. In PC-land one is free only to spout libertine-leftstream twaddle, all else is supect.

temper temper

Already the Romans knew you were coming when they coined the concept of ad absurdam. Just in case you don't recall your schoolboy Latin in basic terms it means when at loss for a relevant argument turn everything into a joke and maybe people will forget what was being discussed.

Perhaps you would care to discuss the topic of this thread, i.e. "Demonstrations in Poland in defence of democracy"? Or are you instead trying to drive this thread off-topic so that it is closed and we cannot discuss opposition to the 18% regime and the unelected dictator, your Dear Leader Chairman Kaczynski? I wonder.

Civil rights marches don't fill me with disgust. If that's abnormal, there are lots of us out there. Do you consider yourself to be normal? From what I read of your posts you are a very extraordinary person.

they were taking about a pro democracy march, Pol. Or does the very word 'march' make you think about gay pride marches and set you off slavering and gibbering?
