I don't get it - if Germans hold Poles for thieves (and they have reasons to think that way) is it racial prejudice - I thought Germans and Poles were the same race just different cultures

I think this is very much on topic, mod. Half of the threads on the forum turn into semitism or anti-semitism, and yet no one has provided the PolishForum with a comprehensive definition of the phenomenon. Every specialist on the matter (and there are herds of them) here navigates in very dark waters.

It's probably a combination of many things - close to closing time, size of the party, plus waiters usually have a pretty good judgement about whether there is money to be made... what do you think would happen if the guests were not Jewish - they would have been served? Or, they would leave when they were told they were to late?

A free tip: in US, when you're in this situation, ask if you can have a word with the chef (because you've heard good things about him, etc). If he says the kitchen is closed, you're done. Sometimes, the chef will tell you what he can still make. I don't know who the real boss is in Polish restaurants, but in US, it's the chef.

When I was working in a restaurant in a half Italian, half Jewish town, and a large party of Italians came in at closing time, I sure was staying. Often made week's wages off them.

But, if they were Jewish, I had urgent personal business at home.

Does this work for Jews too?! I got a house full of pictures of Jews – my parents, my kids, my relatives – and i don't see any big return on my investment. Does the jew have to have along nose? Anti-semitism is just another word for prejudice against jews. Just like "anti-polonism" or polonophobia would mean prejuduce against Poles. No different. On the other hand the "desire to anihilate Jews" can be described more accurately as paranoid schizophrenia. If you ever get that desire, go to a doctor real fast.

Well good as long as Poles aren't the only ones (apart from Germans) blamed for killing Jews in WWII. The latest statistics done by CBOS show that 33% of Poles have sympathy for (like) Jews.
