Bieganski, the Brute Polak and Debbie Schlussel (about the Polonia)

I found a very, very interesting blog post by someone who appears to know his stuff. Well worth a read - here are some extracts.

Recently blogger Debbie Schlussel voiced the Bieganski, Brute Polak stereotype. You can read some of Ms. Schlussel's voicing of the Bieganski, Brute Polak stereotype here.

And Polonia is shocked, shocked.

Me? I'm not shocked.

How else do Polonians respond to the stereotype?

Polonians post sarcastic, obscene, and angry internet posts. One Polish man, in response to my suggestion on Facebook that Polonians might consider buying and reading "Bieganski" in order that they could respond to this stereotype in a reasoned way that would reach the widest possible audience and carry the most weight, said, merely, "Debbie Schlussel wouldn't know the truth if it bit her in the ass."

The whole blog article is very interesting, and shows that the Polonia approach simply doesn't work. He (I assume it's a he) also makes some very interesting observations about how the Polonia community actually works (or doesn't work, as it is).

We can see on this forum that the Polonia do exactly as he says - they post sarcastic, obscene and angry internet posts on PF and are usually completely ineffective at making any sort of point. Not all of them, of course - but the ones who get outraged certainly do.

And you don't?

Why don't you provide a link to the blog article if it's so interesting?
Also, regarding Ms Schlussel, reasoning with her is impossible. It is equally stupid trying to shock her into understanding or venting your frustration with her - she either deletes or ignores any intelligent output coming from opponents on her website, and ridicules the rest. It's just feeding the troll.

Talk about a stupid, embarrassing mistake to make...

My opinion too. Why waste time with someone who is obviously relishing the abuse that's coming her way - and in a twisted way, almost justifies what she says?

Ignoring her is the best thing anyone can do.

I love this quote from that blog:

Further: the truth is much more complex than "Poland is really, really great and her enemies are really, really bad." Only sad old chauvinists, marginalized from, and utterly inconsequential to the mainstream of society, will embrace that message.

Remind anybody of any posters here?

Remind anybody of any posters here?

Certainly.

The silence will no doubt be deafening in this case.

It's funny that it's not only me that thinks of the average Pole as the above. No smoke without fire!

As usually your assumption is wrong. This is blog of Danusha Goska the author of "Bieganski the brute Polak stereotype".And you won't find there what you are looking for as she is a great Polish patriot.

A great Polish patriot indeed. And yet she is pragmatic enough to see Poland for what it is, not what some racist redneck village-dwelling Americans think it is.

Actually gdyniaguy what I find funny is how your hatred of Polish people and Poland prevents you from using reason and logic, so far that you naively now consider Poland the only country in the world where people are patriotic, proud of their country and who they are, so they defend their country from attacks of foreigners, despite knowing in their heart that their nation has problems too.

I seriously have no clue why you live in Poland if you dislike it so much. I do not remember you ever talking about the nice qualities of Poland, you just ***** and moan. It reminds me of what Gary Neville said in response to Arshavin [A Russian footballer who play in England for those unfamiliar] constantly talking about how he does not like it in England and wants to leave. He said 'He doesn't like our food, he doesn't like our women, he doesn't like our weather. If he is so unhappy here then why not just go back to Russia. I feel that way about you.

she is a great Polish patriot.

So why won't any Polonia associations invite her to speak to their members?

Dude,if you knew anything about her and her writings you would know that she doesn't write about Poland. She is commited to dispel sterotypes of Polish people in AMERICA.

Very strange, don't you think? Could it be that she doesn't take part in their twisted agendas?

Funnily enough, she writes a lot about Poland.

And even worse, she actually knows things about Poland!!!

Maybe one day i'll find a Polish book commending British acts during the second world war. Probably not!

I've long said that there's a cracking book to be written about John Ward but as it is very very Poles have even heard of him.

As for Debbie Schlussel. All I can say is, she is the female Gross, same ****, different *******. Where as there is truth in the fact that some Polish people did treat Jews badly during the war, just like Gross's book, the idea here is to create a negative stereotype and only talk about one side. When someone reads that book or one of her blog posts on Poland, they immediately think 'ah so this is what was really going on? No, this is what went on in some places, in others, Polish folks did a lot for the Jews and saved many lives while also risking their own. Anyway the main aim for Gross and Schlussel was the same, to promote themselves and their work and get rich.

Debbie Schlussel

This is the same,b**** who 'blames Polish nation for Holocaust' ""Poles murdered millions of Jews, they maintained several death camps, and they wiped out almost all of both sides of my family, as well as those in hundreds of thousands of other Jewish families."

Rubbish. Schlussel is a hack who (to quote a member of Polonia) would not know the truth if it bit her in the arse. Gross is a historian who addresses facts that certain people would like to stay forgotten.

Umm my last name is Bieganski, just here to find some information. The bickering is a good read, but beneath both of you. I hope you can come to a point of more educated discussion!
