Most likely his guilt caught up with him and it's not a great loss to Polish politics.

The press are saying it was suicide.

He was a pretty vile individual, particularly in relation to his treatment of women, and a political has-been. But still a surprise.

Yes, that's a surprise. He's always been in a 'fighting' mood. Luckily his populist party got voted out of politics (along with LPR, unfortunately PiS is still kicking aboot). 'Political death' got him, I wonder what were his motives to commit suicide.

One thing his party did was give a voice to small businesspeople in the provinces who'd gone bankrupt and felt failed by systems old and new. Then they went and spoiled it in the sleaziest ways possible.

He was a pretty vile individual

i've mentioned on the forum in the past that i once met him. in the middle of rynek, just chatting to people, he was a nice guy.

good or bad, he provided entertainment at times with is inappropriate behaviour in the parliament building.
however, although i wouldn't call him vile he did show a lot of negatives.

his death was not expected and does come as a shock. regardless of what he was.

At the height of Samoobrona's sucess I went to a party in a bar near the sejm with various of their MPs. The only one I really remember was Beger. My overriding impression was the wholesale quantities of champagne that was served and the fact that one of their functionaries settled the bill by counting out several thousand zlotys' worth of coins.

He recognised that poorer people always played a role in Polish society and he never sought to marginalise like other politicians do. He probably also knew that entrepreneurs could take care of themselves so didn't really make provisions for them specifically. RIP

They say you should speak only good of the dead. Lepper's dead. Good.

And his treatment of female employees?

Exactly!

I met him and Giertych at the 4th of July celebrations at the American Embassy back in 2008, and a nice guy I wouldn't attribute to either of them - and are you really that gullible to be sucked in by Political campaigning.

Demanding sexual favours from female staff. He was convicted of it and sentenced to jail. At the time of his suicide he was going through the appeals court to have the sentence changed. A court in £ódż quashed the jail term but prosectors were appealing to a higher court given the gravity of his crimes.

Like many politicians, he was an opportunist ;)

He also accepted an honoray doctorate from MAUP which reflected very badly on Poland.

I was sympathetic towards the guy, even very sympathetic, until the day one of his MEPs raped a woman while abroad (and hid behind immunity) and Lepper gave a televised press conference saying the woman couldn't have been raped because she had worked as a prostitute.

From that point on, when he showed his true colours, it all seemed to go downhill.

He was killed, because he knew too much about CIA prisons in Poland. When he spoke out for the first time about "Klewki" everyone laughed at him, newspapers were screaming that he was insane.

I doubt Lepper knew much, if anything - they were gone by the time he entered parliament.

I feel sorry for his family, really.

Seeing as his family is living on stolen money as nothing was in his name I cannot join your sympathies for them.

Ack, apparently one of his kids is seriously ill as well.

Pretty sure - as far as I know, the flights were in 2003/2004 to the base. They were definitely finished by 2005, and Lepper didn't join the government until 2006?

Very true. I was talking with him twice in similar situations. I didn't agree with vast majority of his political views but he was a nice guy and really had respect for average Joes. I was happy that he got out of Parliament but I am definately not happy that he's dead.

Let's be clear on this, he did this not leave on his own accord, but was rather his hand was forced by his own previous underhand actions.

The people of Poland think otherwise, since both their parties get near zero approval ratings.

Blether. I'd rather live in 'boring' times than 'interesting' ones. Populist-nationalists are the last thing Poland needs.
