I am in a serious relationship with a girl i met on-line from Poland - advice needed

Hey guys,

Well, as it starts. I am an Australian 24, i had found a polish girl online 6 months ago, i had found her off a pen pal website, We have been exchanging emails at first, then we started to talk on skype, webcam and now we talk on kik ( an app on a iphone which is like texting but for free ) we text every day when we are awake, past month we have talked about what it would be like if i moved to Poland, things about what would happen, how her parents would react, how would i get a job etc etc.

And im currently thinking about moving, but i had told her if we do keep talking by the end of the year i would move to Poland for her. ( Does this seem drastic ? ).

A bit about me, I used to go university ( i had to drop it to pay bills as both parents had passed away, i was studying bachelor of mathematics ), i currently work at a bank and live a nice life. I am religious, opened in thoughts, love keeping fit, eat well.

Things i have not told her ( I own $20,000 + another $20,000 in assets including car, computer, belongings etcs[ which i would sell if i moved to Poland ] ) i also own a 1/3 of my parents house which the house is worth considerably alot.

Things about her, shes 20, shes currently in university, she lives with a roommate, she has strong family ties, shes very pretty, shes also religious, she also loves sports and keeps very fit. ( this is all id like to say )

Things i would like to know:

1/ How would i be able to get a citizenship if i were to marry her?

2/ I am Tanned skinned ( middle eastern/spanish background, people say i look italian ) i know most polish are white. Are there many racists in Poland, i know she has said her parents wont mind, but she has told me they are old fashioned and religious, so im considering they may be racists?

3/ With my current financials, would i be able to move to Poland ( i would not see the house money until the house is sold and that is when my youngest brother turns 18, which is in a few years time ] )

4/ I do not speak Polish but i am planning to learn all the basics from now, starting with the alphabet and its pronunciations how hard is it to learn Polish?

5/ How hard would it be for me to find a job? ( I find my self to be well educated, and speak very fluent English, I do not speak Polish but i will learn.)

If there is anything else i need to know please let me know.

1/ How would i be able to get a citizenship if i were to marry her?

By living here for three years after marriage on residency permits and then applying for Polish citizenship. Does Australia now allow dual citizenship? I remember that Australians certainly weren't in the past allowed to acquire other nationalities.

2/ I am Tanned skinned ( middle eastern/spanish background, people say i look italian ) i know most polish are white. Are there many racists in Poland, i know she has said her parents wont mind, but she has told me they are old fashioned and religious, so im considering they may be racists?

They could be, there are racists in Poland, just as there are in Australia.

3/ With my current financials, would i be able to move to Poland ( i would not see the house money until the house is sold and that is when my youngest brother turns 18, which is in a few years time ] )

Could you move here? Yes. Would it be a good idea to move here? No.

4/ I do not speak Polish but i am planning to learn all the basics from now, starting with the alphabet and its pronunciations how hard is it to learn Polish?

Very. Just one example: in English we have the words 'two' and 'second', that's it for that concept; Polish has 21 different words for it.

5/ How hard would it be for me to find a job? ( I find my self to be well educated, and speak very fluent English, I do not speak Polish but i will learn.)

Very. You'd need a work permit and frankly nobody has any reason to get one for you. Even picking up work at a Berlitz or Callan school (i.e. the very bottom end of the job market for foreigners) would be pretty much out of the question; they have such a supply of people who do not need work permits that they would have no need to jump through the hoops of getting you want. And even if they did, there's little chance that the Labour Office would accept an application from a foreigner who doesn't have a university degree.

If there is anything else i need to know please let me know.

Moving to Poland in your circumstances is a hugely bad idea, bordering on the epically stupid. Sorry to p1ss on your parade but it's the truth.

Your first step should be going back to uni and finishing that (there's an Australian professor in the maths department at Warsaw university). With that done you could think about moving to Poland for a year (two at the most) before going back to Oz with Polish wife.

Oh, and start learning Polish now.

Thank you for your honesty, I was born in America before my parents moved to Australia in 1992, i was thinking moving back to the United states before i started to talk to her as i do not need paperwork to live/work there would be much easier for me ... I have not asked her about moving away from Poland, she is very family orientated but i may try and ask what she thinks.

Does Australia now allow dual citizens

I currently have a Dual Citizenship Australian/American

As for anyone wanting to know why i want to move, I just want a fresh start.

I do remember that Australia were OK about people having two (or more) passports but not OK about people acquiring additional passports; that may have changed.

Moving to Freemantle would give you that. While Polish women are clearly superior to the local ladies in Freeo, last night it was 28 degrees there and minus 16 here in Warsaw....

Go visit Poland. Spend some time with her, see how it goes. You are crazy to be moving to Poland for woman you know only from the net/phone. If you spend some time with her and you guys click, then have her move down under or America. You do not want to move to Poland unless you are retiring and have nice chunk of money (minimum half a million dollars)

Not surprising it's the peak of summer there, in the peak of our European summers it is often much hotter than parts of Australia.

Well, as it starts. I am an Australian 24

you are too young :)

Things about her, shes 20

she is too young :)

Things i have not told her ( I own $20,000

You need about 80000$ for 50m2 flat.

how hard is it to learn Polish?

They say that very hard

How hard would it be for me to find a job?

It would be very hard to find a job even for me (electrician, IT guy, driver, plumber)

I find my self to be well educated

We don't need educated people we need labour force.

Mate! an advice! don't move to Poland or to any country only because of a girl! Specially a girl you never met!

Trust me! She is 20 and things can change a lot.

First, t
ake couple of weeks vacation and spend it in Poland.

Thats right! come over in the summer and spend few weeks here. get to know your girl and life here and then you make a decision! As I understood, you will put nearly everything on stake to come and live here.

Concerning girls, this is not a problem in Poland, but getting a job specially if you speak only English, would be hard!

That would be worth considering idea in his situation

I thought you said before it's no problem at all

bullo*ks.... I don't speak any polish nor my mates from different countries- (Italy, Spain, Columbia, Mauritius, Holland...) 70% of us didn't even had any work experience in what we do now. But, we were still recruited by a top American company and believe me, we do earn a decent salary!

Firstly congratulations, in my opinion Polish women make great partners. As for advice I would also suggest come to Poland for a month and spend time with her and see what progresses. No point on thinking about jobs, citizenship and moving until your sure she is the one for you. When the time comes than look into those issues. I too am Australian but my situation is different as my parents are Polish and I hold duel citezenship and passports. Good luck with everything, I hope it turns out well for you.

Living in Poland is a big challenge even for Poles!
Tiny salaries and huge living cost. Official rate of unemployment is less than 15% but i think realy is about30%. It's very hard to find job here, not good job, just any. Even for young Poles who speak english well and had finished college. Poland is very expensive country not friendly to live. Our tax is 23% for most products in shop, about 43% is took from your wages. One liter (not galon )petrol is about 1,30€ per liter! Food is expensive, apartments are very expensive. To buy one is need more than 1000€ per m2 and will be empty.without floor, toilets, sinks etc. empty walls and front door only. All what Harry said is true.

Gives you to think about how the OP was serious...3 days ago he planned to live in Poland, sell all his possessions in Down Under etc.. for somebody he never ever met in real life, who barely is 20 yrs old...And now the whole show migrated to the US....??? And still for the same internet babe?

Anyway, I would advise everybody who head over heels wants to move to Poland for his/her partner...to come and stay here for some considerable time (as f stop wrote), including winter....and then make a decision...

Hey I'm Polish so i can help you a bit. I don't recommend you to move here and live In Poland it would be better for you both to choose other place to live in together.

Forget about speaking Polish smoothly or even good because it's not possible :D
As about finding a job here actually it would be a huge problem and the only job i know you would be working is being an English teacher in English school as the native speaker you don't have to know even the basic polish, I'm attending to such school and there is Canadian and American guy working both don't speak Polish.
