My Russian girlfriend is 50% gypsy...From what i read the Russian gypsy people are decended from the Polish gypsy race , so maybe she has a bit of Polish blood in there too....
I have to say she does not make her living from stealing , she is a teacher of Russian language and culture , and is very hard working... i love her to bits...
They have gypsy mentality though.They should not if they are considered princesses.Anyway. Gypsy mentality is "give me,please give me,give me,I beg you,give,give me," and when you give she never fulfills promise.
romanian = en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Origin_of_the_Romanians
romani = The Romani (also Romany, Romanies, Romanis, Roma or Roms; exonym: Gypsies; Romani: Romane or Rromane, depending on the dialect) are an ethnic group living mostly in Europe, who trace their origins to medieval India.
romanian = With the Roman conquest, Latin spread to countries around the Mediterranean, and the vernacular dialects spoken in these areas developed into the Romance languages, including Aragonese, Catalan, Corsican, French, Italian, Portuguese, Romanian, Sardinian, and Spanish
before u start insulting people get ur facts right
We romantisize about them in movies (Johny Depp in Chocolat?), and in their beautiful music because they seem to represent unbounded freedom. People that actually know any gypsies, either know the ones that are succesfully adapting to modern life... or not. Reality is so mundane... I spent some time with gypsies twice: once, they set up a 'carnival' of sorts outside our village. I stayed there watching them drink and play with knives, while women talked me out of my belongings. My grandmother was not pleased when I came home. Another time was setting up camp somewhere along the road in Bulgaria, in driving rain, only to wake up in the middle of the night right next to gypsy camp. That was very entertaining and this time I didn't get ripped off.
Now, one of my good friends is a full blooded gypsy, some kind of royalty. She does not like talking about it at all, and once when I mentioned it while introducing her, she gave me a "warning" look. She raised two kids on her own - one just became an engineer, other one a doctor.
Wow. So much Gypsy-Roma-Tsigane hate in this thread. Also, so much ignorance - confusing Romanians/Rumanians with Roma, hello? That's just stupid.
To answer OP's question: regardless of what Polish girls think of gypsy men, those men most likely aren't particularly eager to settle down with Polish women. Their tribes/families will cast them out (at which point their _meaningful_ lives will be over, according to their beliefs and traditions) if they do that.
Gypsies have a very complicated, twisted, patriarchal society with all kinds of rules, beliefs and taboos. Non-gypsies just wouldn't fit in. You have to be born into it.
