A survey by onet.pl has calculated that Szczecin is the most expensive city in Poland, more expensive than either warsaw or Kraków.

Why should this be so?

The tags at the bottom say "Polish girls" three times - perhaps that's why :D

No, seriously... it's the same over here - why are bus fares twice as high in low-pay Greater Manchester than in well-paid London? Or why is council tax in scummy Salford higher than in certain well-heeled London boroughs?

The answer is probably to do with the following: lack of subsidies, and fewer working people supporting those who can't/won't pay. Or simply good old fashioned inefficiency.

Nicest areas of Szczecin

Could anyone tell me the nicest regions of Szczecin to live in? As well as the areas of the city to avoid? Thanks.

Maybe because Szczecin is a port city, it has become more expensive. The same reason might also be why New York's more expensive than Chicago, Hamburg pricier than Berlin etc.

Like many Poles, the nicest region of Szczecin is the one on the German side of the border. Tantow, for instance.

There's a reason why buying a house in Germany (and educating your kids in Germany) has become very popular among middle class people from Szczecin.
