Why are Poles in other countries called "Plastic Poles"?

Many Polish Americans love Poland more than some native Poles.
I think Polish Americans who came from Poland, as children, love
Poland more than the ones who came from Poland as adults.

because Poland was once a great place for the kids - no commercials (pressure), little income disparities, no jobless parents, loving grandmas and good food - I can't tell if it is still a great place for kids

I am a Plastic Pole.

The term Plastic Pole sounds funny to me. I never knew such a term existed until I visited Polishforums and I was astounded that such a phrase was coined in reference to Americans of Polish descent.

It means you look Polish, but you're not really an authentic Pole haha. It's like, if you saw a manly looking guy who was really domesticated by feminism, he would be a "Plastic Male."

It seems if you do not live in Poland you are known as plastic although I know a lot of people who do not live in Poland feel more proud of their Polish heritage than people who are from Poland and want to leave ASAP. It might be that if you do not pay taxes in Poland you cannot be considered a true Polish person, or at least some people think.

Whenever I see the word "plastic" I think of credit cards or Yoko Ono.

Neither have I. I get it and all but just have never heard it used. I guess the term is used back in Europe, not in Poland.

There's more poles in Chicago alone than most polish cities. So do you consider poles who live abroad to be plastic Poles? Surely people like pjp2, Pulaski, Curie, Chopin, Anders, etc aren't plastic Poles despite living abroad many for the majority of their lives.

Turd world migrants are arguably the biggest problem that the EU faces which Poland belongs to. In fact migrant crisis is one of the top searches on Google out of millions of key words. Not really. The only leverage UK has against Poland is the possibility of Brexit. A ton of families have moved back to Poland. Also, there's far more Poles in the US than UK. Second, the USA has a far, far more important military relationship with Poland. We Poles learned our lesson counting on the Brits in WW2.

About there being more Poles in the US than the UK - you are of course referring to "plastic" Poles, who for the most part have a name ending in -ski, but have never stepped foot on Polish soil.

I'd like to see numbers on that. My impression is that almost all Poles who go there intend their stay to be temporary before they bring some cash back to the ojczyzna but... life gets in the way and between one thing and the other they mostly end up staying and just visiting family a few times a year.

Absent draconian repatriation measures all large scale immigration creates sub-populations in the receiving country and more people end up staying than political analysts predict.

I'll have you know there's some 20 mil poles living abroad than in Poland itself due to the large diaspora. But according to you all those people are plastic Poles... All 20 mil of them.

Because according to both of your reasoning people like pjp2, Pulaski, Curie, Chopin, anders, Copernicus and a whole long list of poles would then be plastic Poles since they lived outside of Poland - many of them for most of their lives. In fact most of the famous Polish heroes lived abroad. Go tell a patriotic Pole that those Polish heroes are plastic Poles and they'll lay you out real quick.
