Why is Prostitution still legal in Poland?

a friend of mine was a receptionist at the Sheraton in Warsaw in the late nineties

the hotel had a book of registered prostitutes who could 'work' at the hotel

to get registered the girl had to provide a copy of her ID card so if one of the guests got robbed whilst she
was on the job
then the hotel management knew who to send the police after

obviously if a guest picked up a lady of the night at a bar or club and took her back to his room
then the system would not work as well

Hotel Forum in Warsaw used to be called Hotel Wh0re-um as the ladies of the night would call up male guests in the wee small hours

touting their trade

A practice which is absolutely rife in China at the moment. Even business travellers who visit China with their wives and families
can expect to get woken up in the middle of the night being offered 'female companionship'

I stayed at a central Warsaw hotel a few times several years ago, and a flyer advertising prostitutes was slipped under my door each time. One time I stayed there with my brother and his wife. I got an ad but they didn't get one under their door, which proves that the hotel were cooperating with the pimps. Once, I opened my door just as a young lad was being 'delivered' to the room opposite by a large thuggish guy.

In my humble opinion prostitution should be legal.Even more-should be taxed(although it's hard to do) and the girls should take regular health check.Of course they should not be forced into prostitution,

In many countries it's legal, not only in Poland.

I think most people who aren't aware of what I wrote about Poles and Roman Catholicism earlier on find it odd that a very religious country never even moved to outlaw prostitution in any way, hence the thread.

I know that overwhelming number of women that get into that trade have problems to begin with, and I don't want to get into whole sociology of the industry, but why would law make a distinction between woman getting paid for typing but not for giving hand jobs?

I was on the phone with a friend of mine the other night and I talked to him about prostitution in Poland. He cracked a joke and said that if prostitution was banned in Poland, most of the young women would be unemployed hahaha.

I guess he's not meeting them in a church, is he?

The Swedes got it right by not harassing the poor girls but arresting their johns. Posting their pictrues on websites might also work. In Poland they actually do go after the small time pot smokers and it doesn't change things even a bit, the dealers are still around.

Swedish prostitution laws ( now adopted by Norway and Iceland, or so I heard ) are a curiosity and might have a bit of a problem if properly challenged in court ( perhaps not in feminist-dominated Sweden ).

Some of these women regard themselves as "Sex Professionals" , they say they pay their taxes and make in a day what others make in a month .If prostitution is legal ike in Germany where you have tons of "Sex Centers" you have less Mafia involved because if it is ilegal and forbidden it does not mean prostitution will disappear but on the contray still will flourish through mafia pimps.

Besides now with Internet you have tons of' Escort girls and boys" websites and unfortunately tons of female and men students advertise their "services" .

Why is it morally accepted in a Catholic country? Why is it morally accepted in a Jewish country? Why is it morally accepted in a Muslim country? Why is it morally accepted in a protestant country? Because as long as you have some clients, you have an industry.

When speaking of the moraltiy or immorality of prostitution, shouldn't one consider the kids prostitutes invariably give birth to and often infect wtih AIDs and other STDs?

Regarding an effective crackdown on drug users, there would have to be wholesale round-ups outside clubs and discos: Hefty fines and even jail terms would have to be slapped on which would remain on their records forever, and their portraits would have be plastered all over the web so they couldn't even find a job.... With such prospects in store, most potheads would think twice before reaching for a joint. But there isn't the determination to do this because police and other authorities (not only in Poland) are probably on the take.

Are you perhaps labouring under the impression that all prozzers in Poland pay taxes on the full amount earned?

In Poland it is normal ( and not that unsual in the UK either ) that a given business is registered as a go-go club, strip club or a massage parlour and the taxes are paid only on what is officially kept in the books - more often than not minimum wage payed out to girls.

All the rest is the pot that is divided between girls and the pimps in some form.


What a lot of Poles fail to understand is that many Catholics, especially from the US, are really pious and moral people that will actively implement the tenaments of their religion into their life, political choices and etc.

In Poland, as I mentioned, most people are "token" Catholics - they go to church on a Sunday and to confession once every blue moon, involve a priest in such rites as a wedding, baptism, etc. But the involvement of religion in their life doesn't go any deeper and the idea that some other Catholic might find Poland's prostitution laws ( legal ) and huge underground abortion circuit ( illegal, half the gynos do it ) preposterous doesn't even enter their heads.

Polish catholics who do find the above to be in conflict with their faith are branded as "Mohery" and nobody listens to them

Isn't it time to stop molly-coddling offenders of every type. I was shocked to hear that a mother suspected of killing her baby (the Baby Madzia case) cannot be forced to take a lie-detector test. If she's got nothing to hide+ Isn't the prupsoe of the jsutice system to determine the truth. Or is it really all about corrupt judges and pricey lawyers in cahoots with prosecutors on the take and police who also want their cut.
