Is Poland a poor country?

is anyone running around in loin cloths in Poland?

that I would consider poor , I am sure there are poor people, jobless, in need of care etc.
but to dub the whole country poor when there are plenty of Rich/med class citizens is silly.

Ps if you run around in Loin cloths please take a picture for me ( guys only) LOL

make sure you put some tannin oil on and spray up with water so it looks like your sweating from all that running around

It is pis poor by European standards.

I don't think of Poland is especially poor but many or most Polish people subjectively feel poor.

Hard to say. Some people doing well. They bought land cheaply or inherited property.
Earnings are about 700 euro but some still earn NMW (about 260 euro). We have everything
new white goods, zillion inches LCDs, laptops. Some people have more than one car and argue about parking place ;)

Unfortunately we don't have aircraft carrier, yet ;)

Is it?I don't know what to think.I am here for a week already and it does not look poor at the first glance.Plenty of new cars including expensive even by US standarts SUVs in my 50k residents town.Town looks really nice,much nicer and more modern than comparable Salisbury MD though roads are in a bit worse shape.Villages around don't look much (if any) worse than rural Delaware.£ódź on the other hand looks ghetto like ,even the main street Piotrkowska looks neglected but than again NYC and NJ seen from Greyhound bus going to Penn Station looked like a ghetto too. Of course everyone is telling me how bad it is here but what I see just does not fit my definition of a poor country.

Feeling poor and being poor can be two different things.
When Europe goes under after Greece, Portugal and Italy, then Poles won't feel so poor.

Many of the people I saw in Poland were pretty snappy dressers... even the country bumpkins.

If I never visited Western Europe, I'd be unaware how poor I am. Going around as a turist, it is not enough. I have visited homes of my supposed equals, my business partners, and I felt like imposter. Begger in nice clothes.

When I first registered here, I needed to know how Westerners see Poles. And it helped me somewhat, I found out that I should not wear socks with sandals, when abroad. And stuff like that.

I almost forgot about Polish Forums. Now I sometimes read it, when I drink myself to sleep, trying to forget that I wasted my life, strugling to to get onto the level slightly above an unemployed from the western country.

I want communism back. Now, I have said it.

I think your question is silly. Obviously you've never been. Let me answer in this manner: Honduras and Nicaragua are poor countries. Albania and Romania are poor countries. Poland is NOT a poor country.

Being poor is subjective. Being poor in most of the world means not having enough to eat. In America, being poor means not having a car.

I don't think it is poor at all. Of course there are poor people but over all it is not poor.

Plenty of poor people in America have cars.Not having a car and/or DL in America means being doomed.In certain areas it is simply impossible to live without a car.

I haven't been on vacations for years. I'm poor ;)

Do you really believe that there are people in Poland who has no color tv or a cell phone? Given that crt tv sets are considered as garbage now?

There are probably many people who go in debts because they cannot pay for accomodation and other bills, that's true. I can hardly imagine though people who have no washing machine or tv.

I agree that Poles don't live on a level of Western European and if that is your definition of being poor the the answer is yes, we are poor mostly.

I would say being poor in America means (among many things) living in a trailor park. Cars are a necessity in the states, especially for the poor.

In comparison to established EU countries such as Germany, GB or France Poland is poor, in comparison to Eastern European countries such as Russia or Ukraine it is not.

I accept this definition.

Poland? The values are in people. Besides it's blessed in a way I can't explain.
The literature is wonderful, people are great. The progress is still up.
Every single day I go out I see different things.
I love my country. I like opportunities it gives me. I adore my friends. I so much like to wait for new adventures days in Poland bring me.

Gosh, I think it becomes richer with every single moment.

I like this. Furthermore, I think having people whom speak with such poetic optimism about their country is a kind of asset to that nation in itself. Some people are poor, and others just don't have any money. Big difference.
