No, Holland and Berlin. In Germany things are done on a state by state basis. Though since you mention Amsterdam, it's worth mentioning that the legal changes last year in holland don't include Amsterdam.

Personally I find the way it's done in Berlin to be very civilised however it would make a lot of sense to collect the tax revenues. The atmosphere at Görli is so much nicer than for example a pub with the same number of clients and for those who want a drink as well the are a couple of rather classy bars there too. Plus a restaurant if you get the munchies.

Just as it was in the US when the failed alcohol prohibition law was in force, and so it is now when the failed marijuana prohibition law is in force in Poland. Overly restrictive barriers to the market just drive away respectable money and leave a void for criminals.

There's a fairly reasonable theory that one of the most powerful forces keeping drugs illegal is all the money being made by the criminals involved in the drug trade and them both not being interested in not making that money and being very ruthless when it comes to getting rid of things that disturb their profit flow.

Anything to help with the suffering of people is always a good thing, especially when it's a natural plant and not synthetic junk.

In Poland, that would be illegal. But when in Amsterdam, nothing wrong with stopping off for a coffee.

The article is about therapeutic uses - researchers are only just discovering the potential. The effects on MS are well known (though not for every sufferer) and it also has benefits for treating certain cancers and glaucoma.

Ever pragmatic, the police know that if they were all closed to tourists, there would be hordes of tourists looking to buy weed on the street.

I had the authorities round at my gaffe - some stupid probation law, as I was involved in a traffic accident and had to sign off on it being my fault. I didn't go to court, but had to "promise not to do it again" and to agree to probation. Really weird as it was not a pre-meditated act to hit an old biddy who walked out plumb in front of my car....

The probation officer came to my abode by appointment. His questions after some inane form filling were as follows:

1. Have you committed any type of offence since you were arrested 2 years ago....?
I've been using BitTorrent to download Hollywood films.....
2 Do you drink?
When I can....
Do you have a drinking problem?
Only when the shops are shut.......
3. Do you use drugs?
Sometimes. There is some marijuana in that pot right now. (There was of course).

After that he became ever more boring, so I had to order him to leave in the end:)
