Expats, are you happy with your life in Poland?

Hmm...I didn't sense it that much in Macedonia when I was there.

Life's what you make it. I'm happy that I'm not flooded with Disney Land, hotdogs and junk-in-the-trunk sweathogs but I'd also like to ship off some of the old hags here to Bognor Regis on the south coast of England. Throw them all together for a real squabblefest :)

Ukrainians I don't like? I have a distant family member who is Ukrainian through marriage to a distant cousin of mine. All I know is that she is a good lady.

Blacks? ... I don't know many. It is not because I hate them ... I just haven't socialized with any that much. Yes, met, but didn't really befriend ... was not in my circle.

I have had Greek friends (still have, and one of them is in relationship with a Polish girl) who were not like you in their mind ... so I guess I am not ready to generalize any people on a specimen.


And this is here ... but this is growing too.

Freedom to live, to choose, to enjoy and to be free! But adherence to human rights and law ... all come and shape my country well.

Poland, a new land brimming with opportunity ... with an ancient history brimming with pride!

In terms of slavic countries i found a big difference in culture and people between prague and warsaw, but interested to hear your views.

I was just thinking the other day that I have no sense of the Polishness of my friends. They're just friends. They're not many and I'm not a particularly social butterfly type of person, but I've honestly never thought of them as any different from myself.

I'm not satisfied with my job and I may end up moving to another country because of that, but my unhappiness at the office has nothing to do with the fact that it happens to be located in Poland.

So in short... I'm not particularly happy with my life at the moment, but it doesn't have much to do with Poland.

Those who can gain more of a sense of inclusion tend to be happier but it all depends on the type of person. Life is fine but I could be doing with more zip. Red wine KO's me for too long :(

I had a great class tonight. There is a real sense of brotherhood and togetherness with many Poles. Given that I spend a lot of time teaching in one form or another, I have to say that I'm happy when I can get a class going and them learning.

Exactly :) I got to translate in a semi-official capacity the other day and I was happy with that too. I had to mediate a dispute and I was a little worried as each party already knew English and Polish to a half-decent level so I needed to make sure that I commanded their respect with simultaneous translation. It worked well. I'm glad that I got the opportunity to do that. I'd love to be able to do the same in Russian but my experiences are what my experiences are. I've helped out in Japanese before and that was nice.
