mileage makes a HUGE difference in price, as does different models/specs. The S-line? A new S4 in the USA MSRP's for around $49,000 before you even add options. A new A4 is about 40% less. An S-line is a totally different car.

Based on my observations and it is something ive observed and studied over the years, I would estimate Polish used car prices around 10-20% more expensive, depending on the exchange rate.

108.000 miles of UK car = 173.809 km

173.809km minus 80.000 km of PL car = over 90.000 km difference.

For Poland it is a lot.

I left Poland 12 months ago, prior to leaving last year i was there for almost 6 years. The exchange rate will affect the price comparisons, the worst ive known exchange rate rate wise from GBP - PLN was 4.12 in March 2010. So £1000 would have been 4120 PLN, at that point used cars in PL may have been almost level on a pound for pound basis.

Other than that they have always been inherently more expensive, fundamentally because of the scarcity rule, scarcity creates value.

Used cars are cheaper in Germany, Holland and France - that's why there is a massive import business. You will see garages with nothing but foreign plated cars, all imported because they are cheaper and people make businesses from it.

The worlds most expensive transport system, what do you expect? Average wage in London is about £50K. 275K pln, which compensates somewhat.

Is that a mean average. I lived in London for 6 years and knew probably 1 or 2 people that earned over 35k never mind 50k. Take off the 5% top earners and you'll find a lot of Londoners earning less then 25k...

in 2007 the gross median average income in London was 27k.in 2012 it is 33.9k... the mean average will be far less.

this entire thread is useless without comparing wages to earnings.

when comparing "services", obviously money for money, it will be more expensive in England than Poland. an oil change may cost 30 pounds in England and say 80zl in Poland (random numbers) but after working the exchange rate, it is of course "more expensive" in England.....but if you want to buy plane tickets.....who the hell would want to be earning PLN. In Poland I'd have to blow an entire month's salary in order to fly home and back.....now, I can book the same flight for maybe 6-7 days worth of work.

The last time I looked (not long ago) the average wage was about £33K in London (i.e. nowhere near £50K), and about £25K outside the capital. When I last lived in London, I earned about £38K p.a., but that included unsocial hours payments. Most people I knew earned around the same, or even more. But London is full of people earning a lot less than £25K a year.

When I'm in Poland, I rarely stay in hotels, so I have to do "proper" shopping, and do not live on restaurant/takeaway food.

While there is a significant difference in prices on many items, it's simply not enough to compensate for the difference in wages. And, as we all know, the prices of many goods (e.g. electricals) are almost identical. I do a fairly normal job, but one which is now at degree-level upon qualification. Yet I earn quite a good wage over here, but would NOT earn a good wage in Poland.


Same here. I only need to work for about two days to afford a return flight to Poland (with LOT or BA), but if I worked in Poland, in the same job, I would need to work for two weeks to afford the same return flight to the UK and back to Poland. Which is exactly why I would not move there! Only those running businesses, or working on "expat" terms and conditions, can really say that Poland is an affordable place to work and live in.

i remember teaching in Wroclaw at a large company, they had an american working there on a 1 year contract, managerial level, and she was given a sweet 2 BR flat in the rynek as well as a car. you can't beat those terms with a stick. oh, and she was getting paid USD, the same salary she was earning in California.

That's nearly identical wages to cost.

Also, we would have to consider what kind of movie experience you're getting in each city.

The cost to see a movie in each city is the same, wages to cost. Is the zoo in London anything special that would justify the cost? Some zoos are great, some totally suck.

Also, using London comes with additional consequences. We're talking about one of the richest, most powerful cities on the planet. It comes with far more prestige and general "importance" to the world than Warsaw.

"Because it's London" raises prices to a greater scale than "Because it's Warsaw".

There not so big on the cinema food in PL, i had some nachos there once and they were absolutely vile. Having said that the food in UK cinemas has gone down hill too, the hot dogs arent as nice as they used to be.

How about a full car service, i think i paid something in the region of 200 PLN in Poland as apposed to about £80 in the UK, PL still looses on the price to wage ratio but its still cheaper pound for pound.


There's only been a couple, dog walking and strawberries aside its not looking good for PL.

From 12pln to 35Pln in Krakow, depends on the film. My head is spinning at the £15.60 price in London, its cheaper to buy the Blu-Ray; thats ridiculous.

Yes. A few days ago I read about it - Warsaw,Poland offers the cheapest luxury suites out of 12 or so cities.

Boys, it means that for all other guys who don`t run their own businesses or aren`t expats Poland is an unaffordable place to work and live in.

We cut our cloth accordingly and what people on here are conveniently forgetting is, there are plenty of people in the UK who are worrying what they put in their shopping trolly..to put it plain and simple, people struggle financially no matter where you go in Europe...its all relative really!

I worked with a couple of guys from the Warsaw office of my old company, they had bloody good lives and whilst they enjoyed their secondments, they wouldn't have swapped Warsaw for Manchester..why would they? They didn't own their own business, were not expats and to be quite honest, learnt about the same as a junior secretary (circa. £17k) in the UK (they were engineers) but apparently its more than enough to own an apartment in Warsaw, go snow boarding and have pretty damn good social life...the only thing thing they did find amazing was the price of clothes, trainers etc in the UK which was a lot cheaper..


2 million is still a considerable number and maybe it wasn't just about the money why some Polish people actually came to the UK?
