Help...any Polish remedies for hives?

Good day,

Hope someone can help. I've had several attack of stress induced hives. It appears the related stress isn't going to dissipate anytime soon. :( With each attack, the hives come on sooner, are more in number and last longer. The last attack required prescription steroids to alleviate the discomfort.

I'm in the throes of another bad attack. And I just don't want to go on steroids again. While offering relief from the itching, the other side effects were horrendous.

Does anyone know of any "natural Polish remedy" ? (The simple answer of "reduce stress" is out of my control. It's being caused by a "third party".)

I've done web searches and they all suggest either antihistimines (which I do take, but they offer little relief) or the steroids.....

Thanks in advance if you can help.
Regards,
Karinka

if they are stress related I am afraid there is no medicine for it.
Can you get rid of the third party?

this is probably unrelated to your case, but who knows: couple of years ago, nasty attacks of hives signaled my newly acquired allergy to penicillin-based antibiotics. This was also coincidental with a very stressfull time in my life - hurricaine damaging my home.

Hives can be difficult but over time can be eliminated. The first thing to do is to deal with the stress as the hives are a symptom of the stress. I know you said that isn't an option but it is your choice whether or not to allow an external factor to cause you stress. Chamomile tea is a popular stress reliever. Just google natural stress relievers and you will find many natural and cheap solutions. Another more effective and long term solution is meditation. No need to take a course just again google meditation techniques pick one or combine some as to your taste and practice daily and you will find your stress level decreases quickly. As well avoid coffee and other stimulants which will increase your heart rate thereby thinning your blood stream and allowing hives to form much easier. Also avoid medications such as advil and other nonaspirin pain relievers which also thin your blood stream. When you do have attacks go to a dark quiet room and try to breathe evenly and slowly to slow your blood down. Good luck. I used to have similar problems and was able to overcome them. You can also!

They are called 'ul' in Polish. Just kidding! They are to be found on the anus and can be quite painful.

I've had several attack of stress induced hives.

The cure and specific treatment lies within yourself, there is no magic drug and even if their was it'd probably give you cancer later on.

Self control, strong stance, im not going to take this attitude, is the best prevention, you can do it..... Look deep within yourself and think no im not fcuking doing this today... right... one day at a time.. then it becomes a week, then a month..... no messing around its all you..

Get rid of the trigger, is always to best treatment.

Prophylactic treatment with antihistamine every day. It's not dangerous. It's important that you don't wait until the hives already have developed.

If you take the antihistamine when the hives have already started to develop, it's less effective. You should start before that moment. That's why prophylactic treatment is good if you have problems with this often.

But you should eat as little steroids as possible. It has several bad effects on the body. E.g. it suppresses your immune system.

what are hives exactly....????

Can you get rid of the third party?

I wish it were that easy... :) Thanks for the laugh. You made my day. I SO wish it were that easy. (Long, LONG, story...no need to bore you with the details.)

THANK YOU ALL, SINCERELY, for the replies.

I realize I need to deal with the "trigger". But, right now, that isn't as easy as it seems.

I'm doing the antihistimines...but it appears, too late. I will start using them as a prophylactic BEFORE I have to deal with the "third party".

I'm also doing Tai Chi. (My doctor recommended it as a form of "natural" stress relief. He knows I don't want to do the drug route.) It does help calm my mind....but my body still "reacts" with the hives.

Thanks again everyone who responded. Great tips and encouragement. Something I SO NEED right now.

Dziękuję bardzo,
Regards,
Karinka

Karinka, I have a pretty stressful job and sometimes I too suffer from hives, usually red spots on my neck and usually they disappear within minutes, but every now and then a few hours later. When I run and excercise more frequently they almost never reappear so I guess the simplest remedy is what I do, burn off your stress with exercise. YMMV. Good luck.

Thanks Skysoulmate....

I AM doing the "exercise thing" as well. I try to go to the gym at least 3 times a week and I fence 2 to 3 times a week. Usually, the exercise helps. But, lately, it isn't enough. :( (Things have been more than tough lately. Hence, the request for "HELP" from the forum)....I've used "Polish remedies" for colds, infection, etc. in the past with great success....so I thought I'd ask for advice for "stress"

Again....thanks....you have all been so kind and helpful. :)

Regards,
Karinka

I see, yeah I understand your problem. Several years ago I tried antihistamines but because they make you drowsy (calming down lol) I was grounded and couldn't work so in my case herbal remedies and exercise were the only options and work out was the only option that seemed to work. One day I ran non-stop for 2 hours or so just at an average pace and from that day on things got better with my hive problems. Almost as if I reached a trigger point and burned up all the stress I had. Not sure but it worked. Fencing sounds fun so maybe kill all your opponents and you'll feel more relaxed? lol

Chamomile tea is a popular stress reliever

Try adding a few mint leaves to the tea. The aroma & taste are bound to help relax you.

Huh?? Just saw your comment. Whatever your girlfriend/wife did to you has nothing to do with hives. LOL

Hives are simply stress induced dots or patches of red, irritated skin, usually around the face and the neck but also other areas. Mine used to happen once or twice a year around my neck and usually right before major tests or exams (=> lots of stress) and more often than not they're gone within minutes or a few hours at the most. Several times I didn't even know I had an outbreak until a friend said I had some red patches on my neck. Once I went back to running 4-6 times a week they all pretty much stopped from reappearing and now it happens very seldom.

Dcchris & Beckski - great suggestions although it didn't work for me. I love chamomile and mint teas and drink it quite often but it never stopped the occasional hives. Hope it works for Karinka.

Well, humour increases life expectancy :) Hives disappear quick enough. Stress can be removed through distance, perspective and shrugging. Good luck to the OP, I'm guessing you didn't contribute to the stress and can thus bail out with dignity.
