What do you generally think about Poles?

I'm from Poland. I found this forum quite by accident and decided that I will ask you a question :)

so .. what do you think about us?

That Poles must be really compex ridden to ask such questions :)
But being serious there were so many threads like that so I suggest to use search function.

People are people . . . .
I have some good friends that are from Poland, and they are great intergraters, they are hard workers, they have excellent senses of humour and blimey do they know how to party!

However, people are people . . . . . there are good and bad from every corner of the world and in all walks of life!

I think most of you guys are okay, and probably a bit friendlier and probably more decent than some of my own fellow countrymen are, once you open up a little and actually *allow* someone to get to know the real you. You guys sometimes seem a bit too suspicious and paranoid though, but perhaps that's because of some of the treatment you're probably recieving from a couple of spoiled brats abroad who look down on foreigners who do small jobs? Who knows it has something to do with recent history as well, although it *does* seem to be part of your culture to enter the room with a healthy dose of distrust?

Please don't take any offense, because all in all, most of the Polish guys and girls that I've met have been nothing but great company and true friends, despite of all our little differences. (We're not so different after all, but perhaps our environments differ a *lot*?) Bottom line: Most of you guys and girls are perfectly alright once you get to know yourselves, and you folks can be really warm and welcoming sometimes, especially when you're able to relate to some people. I've noticed a lot of Polish people dislike those spoilt Westerners, and for good reasons, but I've also noticed they respect a hard worker when they see one. I suppose one of the things I like about Polish people is that they still have some good old-fashioned values when it comes to such things, although I have to say I'm not much for religion, and prefer a bit more open-mindedness when it comes to a few things.

But I respect your working mentality. Just don't make the mistake of thinking we're all spoiled Capitalists, because no matter how much some people complain about stereotypes on this forum, you just *know* you guys have some prejudices towards us as well. That's okay, just keep an open mind and allow people to prove otherwise.

Poland is one of those poor and insignificant former eastern bloc countries that most people don't care about.
John Paul II, Walensa, and Polish jokes and that is the extent of what average people know about Poland around the world.

OP asked about Polish people, not Poland. Dyslexic again or bent on bashing Poland no matter what's the topic?

I can't talk about Chicago but where I live, no one ever mentions anything about Poland and I don't hear any Polish jokes either.

They are more mixed than they like to think. Solidarity can be associated more with biscuits than with rapport between people.

The people of Poland are the greatest, but some when they move to the U.S.A. change, and become Americans. Poland is where I would live, if I could. I hope some day, to move, and live happy.

I agree, they are really very nice and the nicest experience I had there was in the areao around Danzig and Krakau and Breslau. I hope it's just a coincidence... ;)

No. You're just going to share your opinion about them. But being a gentleman like you i doubt i will see any opinions about the Poles from you.

Anyway i was just courious about your thoughts.

AM, their taste buds are branching out through travelling but they are still pretty bland and samey when it comes to their palate.

Why not? Everyone else does it all the time, think of it as a Borg collective, now out with it. ;)

The Japanese are far more of a Borg collective but that's changing. You can see the same sociological phenomenon there as here. Namely, the difference between the shinjinrui (younger generation) and the rojinrui (older generation). Young people are becoming freer in their thinking so, like it or not, there is a wedge there.

I think this may be a Gliwice thing but people here tend to be very boring. It's the same bland food they talk about and they tend not to stay out at all late. I think life might be more energetic in bigger cities.

I'm mean what is your opinion about Poles in general.

In general? I get on well with many but there are many smartasses and ******* too. My general impression is positive.

Maybe so, Its unusual that even places with 200.000 have a poor social life. You should come up east if you want to see how sh1t it can get.

I am a Polish-American and I think Poles are too eager to be like Western Europeans. I think Poles should revive Sarmatism and start wearing turbans, jewels and silks again and be aloof and dismissive towards Westerners. If Poles were to do this then Poland would immediately become a famous country once again. All over the world hipsters would love Poland. Poland needs to get its style back.

I am Polish but British born and my opinion of many Polish people currently is slightly negative. I do not know where to begin. I think if so many of the youngster from Poland would stop, as someone mention, trying to be modern and like European westerners they would get a lot more respect. Personally I find it very sad when a Polish guy or girl marries a foreigner and then does not speak to the children in Polish or even worse, a couple who are Polish move to another country and when they marry and have a family they decide not to speak to their children in Polish. I have seen it here where I live. Be proud of your 'Polishness' and stop trying to be like those in other countries as if have got something to be ashamed of. You see it a lot in television in Poland as well, a lot of the programs are just bought from other countries as if they have no creative ideas now in Poland and just have to copy other countries. I also feel that a lot of Polish people who have moved here or to Americanin recent years have turned their back on their Catholic morale values and just go wherever the money is. It is such a shame.
